2 2016 GOVERNING BOARD President Bill Buckley President-Elect Glen Manske Secretary Nancy Allder Treasurer Jenn Heetderks BOARD MEMBERS Nick Heetderks Harry Johnston Jim Cook Joan Taylor - Past President jetelt@windstream.net COMMITTEES General Interest Nancy Hanshaw Dinner Tours Darrell Best Membership Dave Allder Newsletter Margaret Mays Nancy Hanshaw Tech Seminars Ed Taylor Calling/Sunshine Laverne Johnston Ads Loren Davidson Helen Sougey Christmas Party The Buckleys Car Council & Swap Meet Bob Callaway Dick Waechter Also Parades & Tours Midwest Ford Club Representative Gayle Hanshaw The MAFFI Light Fellow Model Aer, Bill Cote of the McKinsey River Model A Club recently told me that his club has a unique way of raising money for MAFFI. Bill took a Model A headlight and mounted it on an old jack stand and cut a slot in the top of the light. He puts it on the front table whenever they have a club meeting and it is called the MAFFI Light. Each meeting club members bring their change or dollars, whatever they want and place it in the MAFFI Light. It is like a giant piggy bank and at the end of the year, they remove the money and send a check to MAFFI. Since the lens is clear, you can see the money adding up! This is a great idea for smaller clubs out there who say they can t afford to donate on a regular basis to MAFFI but want to do something. It s a great idea for bigger clubs to get people actively involved. You use your imagination on how you want to work it but I know there are some pretty clever people out there who could put this to good use and raise money for a good cause. As you know, the museum would like to expand in the future and there is always upkeep on the current building. I have enclosed a couple of pictures to give you an idea. Let us know if your club takes on the challenge and send us pictures of your MAFFI Light! Thank you to McKenzie River A s, Bill Cote for this great idea, and for all of you who support MAFFI. Marsha Quesnel, MAFFI Trustee 2 SPRING CLUB TOUR The clubs first tour of the season will take place on April 2nd. We will meet at Belmont Plaza Shopping Center, 11th & Cornhusker, at 10:30 am. Lunch will be at Shoemakers on West O, (south side). For questions, call Dick Waechter at All members welcome, with or without your Model A. Presidents Corner I hope everyone enjoyed the speaker at last months meeting. I went home and bought a new paper shredder after his talk on theft identity! Don't forget our "First Tuesday Coffee at HyVee" and our first driving tour of the year on 2 April around Branched Oak Lake. Nancy has lots of great activities in store for the club this year, so keep your calendar's posted! Dave will give the details of the May "garage event" at the April Breakfast meeting at Golden Corral. It was great to see Nick at the last meeting! Get your cars gassed and ready for a busy summer showing our cars. Cheers!! Bill
3 March 19, 2016 Cornhusker Model A Club Meeting Minutes The Cornhusker Model A Ford Club (CMAFC) was called to order by President Bill Buckley at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Roll call indicated 28 members present. Guests: Ryan Sothan (NE Attorney General s office) and Katie Heetderks. Best wishes were extended to those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Minutes: Jim Cook moved for the acceptance of the February meeting minutes. Judi Cook seconded the motion and it was approved. Treasurer s Report: Treasurer Jenn Heetderks reported: Checking Account Feb. beginning balance: $ Checking Account Feb. ending balance: $3, Savings Account Feb. beginning balance: $3, Savings Acct. Feb. ending balance: $3, (interest quarterly) Expenses included newsletter, supplies, donation & name tags. Margaret Mays presented a bill for newsletter expenses. Linda Buckley moved for approval of the treasurer s report and the payment of the bills submitted. Judi Cook seconded the motion and it was approved. Guest Presentation Ryan Sothan with the Nebraska Attorney General s Office Identify Theft A few items from the presentation - In 2015 identity theft cost was ~$15billion up from ~$13billion in There is about 1 victim every 2 seconds. A 2/3 chance the victim knows the identity of the thief (family, friend or coworker). Serious red flag if you receive a utility bill for a property that you don t own. Seeing an increase in tax related identity theft. Lots of phone phishing hitting fast, elevating & making it emotional. Remember there is no debtor prison in the US & the IRS doesn t make house calls or phone calls. IRS notification is by snail mail with reasonable timeframes. Beware of other forms of phone phishing like windows helpdesk, gift cards, and service order confirmation. Be leery of free WIFI (most is unsecured), good for surfing the net, bad for paying bills or buying merchandize. What if it happens to you? REPORT IT to law enforcement the report is what makes ID theft a crime. Do it yourself credit protection steps that cost only $9. Great brochure resource Identity Theft Repair Kit was distributed. Great website resource is the FTC site ONLINEONGUARD.GOV A big thanks to Ryan for sharing his knowledge with the club and congrats to him on his new puppy. Committee Reports Calling Committee: Laverne Johnston reported that Norma Cummings broke her kneecap. Charles shared the details...she had surgery and fortunately is on the road to recovery. It was awesome to have Nick Heetderks at the meeting and share some of his treatment journey. Membership Committee: Dave Allder reported no new members since the last meeting. Dinner Tours: Darryl Best shared the dinner group will meet at Northside Café March 31st at 5pm. Informal Breakfast Gathering: First gathering had a good turnout. Reminder 1 st Tuesday of the Month at 9am HyVee at 70 th & Pioneers. History: Janet Jeffries, nothing new reported. Activities: Nancy Henshaw inquired if the group would be interested in a 2-3 day mystery tour in the Fall. She will work up some information to share. She announced at Homestead Days there will be an appearance by members of the Alaska Frontier Family. April is the breakfast meeting (signup sheet routed - please print & bring ticket from newsletter). Need 2 more hosts for May meeting. Tours & Events: Dick Waechter happily reported the Swap meet was a good one. Thank you volunteers! Update on future swap meets - a Missouri group may take on organization. Next tour, April 2 nd Belmont/Lake. Gayle Henshaw shared fliers for Midwest Ford Club Anderson Ford gathering July 9 th. National Collector Car Day upcoming. Newsletter: Margaret May has targeted issuing newsletter at the beginning of each month. Information needs to be submitted to her by 22 nd. Advertising: Loren Davidson shared that nearly all advertisers renewed and have paid ($675 to date). Please let him know if you have ideas of businesses he could contact. Keep supporting advertisers. Christmas Party: Bill & Linda Buckley will chair Old Business: Club Contribution to MAYRA (Model A Youth Restoration Assoc) Check was issued. New Business: 2016 Events Garage Day at the Allders is planned for May 7 th at 8:00. Breakfast will be provided. Later the same day members may want to participate in the Norris car show. More details will be available at April meeting Meeting Idea Bill asked if the members are interested in having an Antique Appraiser attend a meeting at a cost of $50. Most were interested. He will try to schedule a Fall date Meeting Idea Glen Manske is going to see if a NAPA rep would be interested in doing a presentation at a future meeting. Future Meetings Bill Buckley will be unable to attend April & May meetings. Glen Manske will lead them. Shared Drawing: $18 was shared between the club and the drawing winner Jim Cook. Names Tags Jenn Heetderks brought those that were ordered. Feedback The identity theft presentation was excellent. Meeting Adjourned BREAKFAST TICKET GOOD ON 1. APRIL 16, 2016 AT GOLDER CORRAL 2.
