1 January 2012 NAHTCA MEMBERS CRASH THE 46TH ANNUAL TRI-STATE GAS ENGINE AND TRACTOR SHOW IN PORTLAND, INDIANA. On August 24th to the 28th, members of the NAHTCA descended upon Portland Indiana to buy, sell and trade their goods at the 46th Annual Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Show. The weather was perfect for showing tractors, engines and everything else to do with farm shows. The show grounds are huge. There is an area for all brands of engines divided out by manufacturer as well as different brands of tractors. There are also vendors selling just about anything throughout the multiple-acre site. One area in particular was set aside for larger vendors dealing in all types of JUNK. It was a large area with hundreds of vendors. Not quite as big as the Le Sueur Minnesota swap meet, but just as good of stuff. Two of the members set up a booth to sell their goods. Jim Gray to sell hay carriers and pulleys and Barry Merenoff to sell his books and drawings to interested collectors. This booth acted as a home base for several other members to hang out, catch up and brag about each other s finds and deals. One great find was Jerry Kamp s carrier with the Stoffers Patent identical to the one highlighted in the 2010 special edition on the newsletter. Other members in attendance were: Dave Wilson of Van Meter Iowa, Doug de Shazer of Crofton, Nebraska, Dale Smithhisler of Ashland, Ohio, Mark Luedke from Indiana, as well as others that I am forgetting to mention. It s a great show and it is worth your time to visit it in the future.

Right - One of the original one way carriers salvaged by Henry himself after his partners complained that his product did not hold up. This carrier had been in operation for many years prior to Henry retrieving from a local farmer. This proved to his partners that his product held up!! It currently resides in the historical room. (notice no extra ribbing on legs)

Another year passed and believe it or not, it is time to talk about the 7th annual hay show. WOW, I can t believe it. Actually several members have been working on it for a few months already. Thanks to them, the show always goes off with out any problems. That being said, check out the show flier and save the dates! Also, send me anything you would like to see changed about the show and we will see what we can do. One big change this year is the auction.this year the auction will follow the dinner Friday night. Dinner will also be in a larger club house area. Things were a little tight last year, so this will be a welcome change. Hope to see everyone there. I realize it has been 4 months since the last newsletter, wow. I want to apologize for that. Things got so busy, that I just did not have enough time to work on it. The weather was so good that it kept my business in full swing until Christmas this year. I usually stay busy, but I got a lot more work done with the mild weather. (Keeps the collection going, LOL) Anyway, I hope to be back on track and keep feeding the members the newsletters they have been calling for. Christmas gifts Freddie and John were fortunate enough to have season tickets for the local pro football team. They could not help but notice that seat next to them, B14, was always empty. They had a friend who wanted to join them, so John inquired about the seat at the box office. The box office told him that the seat was already sold. There after, week after week the seat remained empty. Then on the last game of the season, much to Freddie and John s surprise the seat was taken for the first time that season. John could not resist asking the newcomer, Where have you been all season. Don t ask, said the newcomer, The wife bought the season ticket last summer for a Christmas present Bummer
