We will meet at Belmont Plaza Shopping Center, 11th & Cornhusker, at 10:30 am. Lunch will be at Shoemakers on West O, (south side). For questions, call Dick Waechter at All members welcome, with or without your Model A. Breakfast at HyVee Don t forget about the first Tuesday of the month breakfast at the HyVee, 70th & Pioneers Blvd. Arrive around 9 am. SWAP MEET March 6th Once again the car gods provided fantastic temperatures for this years Swap Meet. Helping on Saturday and/or Sunday were Bill Buckley, Bob Callaway, Dave Allder, Ed Taylor, Joan Taylor, Leo Sougey, Harry Johnston, Dean Mays, Jim Cook, Judi Cook, Terry Elliott, Gayle Hanshaw, Gary Horn, Avery Jecha, Harv Jecha, Dennis Bauman, Gail Lanning, Glen Manske, Jeff Meier, Jeff Thomas, Matt Waechter and Dick Waechter. Our club had a great percentage of participation. Thanks to everyone who helped. 2

3 Breakfast Meeting The clubs annual breakfast meeting will be on April 18 at 9:00 am at the Golden Corral. There was a sign up sheet at the Feb. meeting and it will also be at the March meeting. For members who didn t sign up and plan on attending, please call Donna Best ( ). Don t forget to cut out the breakfast ticket found in the newsletter and bring it with you to the Golden Corral. Sign your name on the ticket and give it to the cashier. (All family members names on one ticket). The club will be paying the entire cost. SUNSHINE Nick Heetderks received great news regarding his biopsy. He is officially in remission! On Friday he started a chemo treatment to keep him in remission, so he ll be the hospital probably till Wed. Then back home for a month or so depending how things go. The next step is a stem cell transplant. The transplant time frame depends when a donor is located, which may take several months. After the transplant, he will be an inpatient Tour of Gary Kuck Car Museum A fund raiser for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Lancaster will be held on Saturday, March 19th from 2:00 pm -5:00 pm. This is an opportunity to view a unique car collection while supporting CASA. Advance reservation is $25. Day of, $35. If interested call the CASA office at Proceeds will fund recruiting, training and supervising community volunteers who advocate on behalf of abused and neglected kids in the Lancaster County Juvenile Court system. The museum if located at 2251 Humphrey Ave. (North 27th Street & Arbor Road/ Alvo Road) Ryan Sothan from the Nebraska Attorney Gener- Office will be speaking on Theft Identity at the March meeting. als at UNMC for about 3 weeks, depending how things are going. Then he will need to stay within 30 min of Omaha for 80 or more days with careful observation for graft vs host disease. Best wishes to Nick for an uncomplicated and speedy recovery and hope to see him later this year at club events. Presidents Corner..... Thanks to everyone that helped at the Swap Meet. We had 15 people on Saturday for Set-up and loads of people on Sunday to collect at the gate. The weather was great, the crowds overflowing and we ran out of vendor spaces at 8:00am! 4 February 20, 2016 Cornhusker Model A Club Meeting Minute The Cornhusker Model A Ford Club (CMAFC) was called to order by President Bill Buckley at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Roll call indicated 32 members present. Guests: David Thurber, John MacChican & Katie Heetderks. Best wishes were extended to those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. A special shout was given to Bob & Judy Calloway celebration their 50 th Anniversary. Minutes: Jim Cook moved for the acceptance of the January meeting minutes. Judi Cook seconded the motion and it was approved. Treasurer s Report: Treasurer Jenn Heetderks reported: Checking Account Jan. beginning balance: $4, Checking Account Jan. ending balance: $3, Savings Account Jan. beginning balance: $3, Savings Account Jan. ending balance: $3, Expenses included MAFTA insurance, church donations & some Christmas related items. Margaret Mays presented a bill for newsletter expenses. Laverne Johnston presented a bill for club supplies. Darryl Best inquired about what the total cost was for the Christmas party. Jenn didn t have that information accessible at the meeting, but will be able to provide. Joan Taylor moved for approval of the treasurer s report and the payment of the bills submitted. Linda Buckley seconded the motion and it was approved. Guest Presentation David Thurber - History of the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) Mr. Thurber, a LPD officer, took the club thru the history of the department from the mid1800s with a particular emphasis on the role of autos. He shared the transportation evolution from walking and horseback riding to motorcycles and automobiles as well has the weapons evolution from lowly billy clubs to guns. Although the Model Ts led the way for autos the club cheered the first model As in the police fleet numbers 61 & 64. Interesting stories were shared, especially detailed was the 1930 downtown bank robbery and the colorful pursuit and capture of all but one of the robbers. The pictures and diagrams he brought enhanced the experience. For those interested in viewing actual items the LPD has display cases in the department. A big thanks to Mr. Thurber for sharing his knowledge with the club. Committee Reports Calling Committee: Laverne Johnston reported on Nick Heetderks (illness, Jenn shared an update), Lumir Vajgrt (improving and welcomes the Waterford on S. 48 th and Mike Tritsh (knee surgery is doing well, via Karen). Membership Committee: Dave Allder reported no new members since the last meeting. Members present confirmed that they received the membership roster information. Dinner Tours: Darryl Best shared that the dinner group will meet at Golden Corral February 25 th at 5pm. Bill Buckley reported that an idea was given to the board to start an informal breakfast gathering. There was brief discussion & interest was expressed. Group agreed to try an informal breakfast get together 1 st Tuesday of the Month at 9am HyVee at 70 th & Pioneers. History: Janet Jeffries reported all boxes continue to be safe and sound. Activities: Nancy Hnshaw has accepted committee lead, thank you Nancy! She shared goals of encouraging involvement and members driving their cars as much as possible. Some ideas include a Scavenger Hunt & also having a car night at Sonic. More details will be shared as things develop. The March meeting will have an identity theft presentation and April is the breakfast meeting (signup sheet routed at meeting). Tours & Events: Dick Waechter reported priority is the Swap meet staffing Mar 5 th & 6th. Volunteers have the details. Potential future impact the council has a motion on the floor to not hold the Swap meet in Tours are getting started soon. Gayle Henshaw shared from the last Midwest Ford Club Anderson Ford will host Ford gathering July 9 th and news is expected soon on the National Collective Car Recognition. Newsletter: Margaret May requested that newsletter information needs to be sent to her by roughly the 5 th of each month in order to meet deadlines. Tech Seminars: No report. Advertising: Margaret Mays for Loren Davidson shared that there were numerous renewals and a few more are expected. Christmas Party: Bill & Linda Buckley will chair Old Business: MAFFE No youth names were submitted for the free membership. Feel free to submit to Bill B. at any time. Club Contribution to MAYRA (Model A Youth Restoration Assoc) Bill Buckley proposed a $100 club contribution. Judi Cooked moved to approve, Charlie Cummings seconded the motion and it was approved. New Business: 2016 Events Margaret Mays shared information on Norfolk s 100 th Anniversary parade scheduled for July 4 th. Unfortunately the date is a conflict with prior commitment to Seward parade so the club will go to Seward Events Gayle Hanshaw inquired about ongoing interest in the Apple Jack Festival. Interest was expressed by members based on positive experience last year & agreed to keep the date on the calendar. There may be Living History theme dates added, Nancy Henshaw will try to find out more information. Homestead Monument may have a car show labor day weekend, more information will be coming Budget Bill Buckley presented information on the budget based on the January board s meeting. It looks very similar to 2015 budget. Glen Manske motioned to approve, Jim Cook seconded the motion and it was approved. Penny Bridge DVD Is available for $6.99, contact Jim Cook if interested. Shared Drawing: $24 was shared between the club and the drawing winner Judy Jecha.
