1 Cathy Young, Editor April 19, 2013 Editor s Comments I will be on Editor Hiatus after this issue of FWIW. See note below about Ginger Tucker taking over the reins for the summer months. I enjoy putting this little newsletter together, and hope you ve found some things of interest in its pages. FWIW is a wonderful tool for getting information out to our property owners, and is a valuable forum for our GM and staff to communicate, also. Thanks to EVERYONE who sent me articles and other information. My goal was to keep FWIW as upbeat and positive as possible and make it your go-to source for current happenings at Alpine. Remember, if you have constructive suggestions, contact one of the staff or use the handy suggestion box on the front counter of the lobby. Help them help us! Check out the positive changes when you visit the lodge. Please come out and support YOUR organization. Beginning with the next issue of FWIW, Ginger Tucker will be Acting Editor. Ginger will do the newsletters from May through August (or maybe Sept.). Please your contributions to her at gstucker354@gmail.com. Her phone is: (410) You may also use the FWIW box on the front counter in the lobby, for this purpose; however, it is more convenient to use her . The deadline to submit items for the next issue of FWIW is Wed., May 1 st and the next issue will be published on Fri., May 3 rd. FWIW is available in the lobby or on Alpine Lake s website then click on FWIW and choose the date. Happy reading! ****************************************************** COMING SOON. 5 HAPPENINGS AROUND THE LAKE & NEARBY SHUFFLEBOARD REPORT by Bob Bayer, Commissioner of Shuffle April 4 th : First time we carried our league over into the month of April. With the good turnouts and still crappy weather, we decided to play another week or two. We had 28 playing with still a few newcomers joining us. With the return of my Thursday nite wife, Kay partners with youngest Sines sibling Carsyn, and they beat older sis Alyssa, partnered with Chad in the first round. Katie & Jolene were also first-timers tonight. Some big one-turn scores tonight: 7 points-tony; 6 pts-buddy, Keyla & Tony (with a hanger); 5 pts-tony, Cathy Young & Bob; 4 pts-katie, Jolene & J.R. (a hanger). Results to follow. April 11 th : Last player to show: Bob 1 st player out: Bob, PO d partner Thursday nite wife. Didn t even get a beer down before I lost 2 quickies hate when that happens! Got stuck at work; thanks to John Laing for getting the party started! Very competitive night with lots of knock-offs. The Sines sister rivalry continues with Kay & Carsyn beating Alyssa & Birgit early. One-turn wonders for tonight: 7 points-kay; 6 pts-ginger, Kathy & Mike Andes (help from John Laing); 5 pts-keyla; 4 pts-john and Charlotte (hanger). Kathy Andes thought the highlight of her night was finally beating the Youngs. (Why does everyone love beating the Youngs?) Well it took 2 wins in the championship round to win outright tonight. Results follow: April 4 th : 1 st place: Cathy (with a C ) & Loring Young (no, not a typo they re finally back in contention) 2 nd place: Key & Buddy (always in contention) 3 rd place: Charlotte & Bob (I ve heard of them) April 11 th : 1 st place: Kathy (with a K ) & Mike Andes (no, not a typo either no, really I was there: 2 wins at the end awesome, guys) 2 nd place: Pat & John Laing (got shocked 2 games in a row) 3 rd place: Keyla & Buddy (always in the hunt) We will wrap this season up next week, April 25 th, with a little awards dinner/presentation. 12 More COMMITTEE NEWS ECC COMMITTEE John Laing, Chair Please do not use clear plastic or blue tarps to cover things outdoors at AL. Brown or green tarps are available at the same or nearly the same price and are much less visually distracting. At this point, clear plastic or blue tarps are not prohibited, but are discouraged. The ECC has grappled for some time over fencing, and the parking of trailers and motor homes on numbered lots. If you have an opinion on whether the current state is too restrictive, too lenient, or about right please let us know at or leave a note at the front desk addressed to the ECC. Although the ECC is an independent entity, we are responsible for setting standards that benefit all property owners and would appreciate knowing your opinion. The following is a proposed revision to the ECC guidance on deer fencing: Article 6C: Concerning fencing Fencing may be erected to keep deer from bushes and small trees. The fencing may be kept up year-round. Fencing and supports must be green or other subdued color and be well-maintained. However, no fencing on any lot or lot lines will be permitted except where, in the opinion of the Committee, a fence or other enclosure will contribute to and be in keeping with the character of the area. As always happens, this leeway has led to fencing beyond what was anticipated by the ECC. Therefore, ECC is proposing to change the deer fence guidance to read as follows: Fencing may be erected to keep deer from bushes and small trees. Fencing and supports must be green or other subdued color and be well-maintained. Any supporting wire or rope must also be subdued in color. The top of the fence cannot be more than five feet from ground level. The total length of fencing that can be erected without filing a permit application with the ECC is 50 feet. Fencing must be at least ten feet from the edge of all roadways. Deer fencing may be kept up year-round. The Declaration of Restrictions prohibition against fences along property lines or that detract overly from the natural quality and aesthetic appearance of the existing geographical areas within the subdivision remains in force. So if, in the opinion of the ECC, fencing distracts significantly from the general nature of the development, the owner will be required to remove it even if it falls within the above guidelines.
