Thank you. Jim Bennett, father of Mike Bennett, an ALOPA employee, died recently. Jim was a security guard at Alpine for many years. Our thoughts are with Mike and the rest of the family. Upcoming Events Benefit for Brad and Jessie Brad and Jessie (Rodeheaver) Metheny are Alpine Lake employees who were injured in a car accident. Brad is Alpine Lake's head chef and Jessie is the Bar Manager. Brad has a broken back but has undergone surgery and is recovering. Jessie had multiple injuries, and has had multiple surgeries. Jessie is currently in Heath South Mountain View Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Both Brad and Jessie are going to have ongoing medical expenses not to mention those they have already incurred. Your help is appreciated. There will be a fundraiser at the Terra Alta VFW, 302 East Washington Avenue, Terra Alta, WV on Saturday, December 3 at 6:oo PM lasting throughout the evening. The VFW is a fun place for an event with a large dance floor. There is plenty of free parking. There will be a $10 fee at the door, and a cash bar. Music will be provided by G3 from Annapolis, MD (with Alpine Lake homeowner Phil Gardner). The Reign from Oakland. Paul Berger from Kingwood. And GNR Productions will DJ before and after the bands! We need volunteers on the night to sell 50/50 tickets, prize boards, etc. If you want to volunteer, call Chas Minor at If you have an idea that would bring more people and money in, please suggest that too. If you are a personal friend of Ben Roethlisberger, ask him to attend! If you can t attend, please consider making a donation. You can go to any Clear Mountain Bank and make a deposit to the savings account set up for Ernest B. Metheny (Brad). Clear Mountain Bank, 1101 East State Avenue, P.O. It was a tough decision picking between the two. The Board appointed Jim Wachter (600 Woodbine Drive) to fill the vacancy. If you don t know Jim, come to the November 19 public Board meeting and say hello. Next Community Meeting by Frank Ross The next Frank Ross Town Meeting date will on Saturday December 3 at 6:30 PM in the Lodge. HAPPENINGS AROUND THE LAKE & NEARBY Cross Country Skiing by Freddie Harrison Winter is coming soon. If you haven t had a chance to use our cross-country ski trails the past couple of seasons you are missing out. If you want to exercise but you hate going to the gym or fitness center go out and buy yourself a set of x-country skis. The low-impact, total body workout of Nordic Skiing has numerous health benefits. It is the ultimate cardio exercise, the number one calorie burner, and much more. Stop by the front desk of the lodge and pick up a trail map, or visit our website under Cross Country Skiing. The trails offer skiers of all levels the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Alpine Lake. Property owners may use the groomed trails free of charge, and only a small trail fee is charged for guests and the public. The rates are available online. See you on the trails and happy skiing. 2

3 Shuffleboard by Fred Isennock Our shuffleboard league started off well with 22 players. We had four first time players, Skip and Dottie Creamer s son and daughter in law, Shane and Carmen Creamer, and new property owners, Shelia and Tony Amato. A good time was had by all. The winners came from the loser s bracket and won five games straight at the end. By the way, congratulations to Skip Creamer for his recent introduction into the Softball Hall of Fame. Results for week one (11/3/1) 1 st Barbara Conway & Sam Berry 2 nd Cory Riner & John Shaffer 3 rd Cathy & Loring Young For our 2 nd week of play, we had 28 players including 2 first time players, Yvonne and Pete Weddell. It seems the best strategy is to lose early and play from the loser s bracket Because foe the second week in a row the winners did just that, winning 7 games straight for the championship. Results for week two (11/10/ st Cathy and Loring Young 2 nd Kathy and Sam Berry 3 rd = Rosie Mayne and Jenni Mills Anyone wishing to play, show up and sign up by 6pm any Thursday. Play is free. Bring a partner or we will have one for you. No experience is necessary. Remember, half price pizza and wings and $2 draft beer. A great deal. Logan Weber s Birthday by Todd Deahl World War ll veteran and former Alpine Lake resident Logan Weber is now residing at the VA nursing home in Clarksburg. Mr. Weber will be 96 years old on Nov. 21; anyone wishing to send him a birthday card may do so at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Dr., Clarksburg WV I am sure cards will be greatly appreciated. For questions or for more information contact Todd Deahl Commander of VFW Post 578 Terra Alta WV, phone # Committee News Property Owners Committee by Bernie and Birgit Stock Our last Carry-in Picnic on Oct. 20th had a great turnout. Maybe it was the leftover sausages from Oktoberfest or just the fact that it was the last chance to see many PO's before they left for the winter. Whatever the reason, it was a very nice gathering. 50/50 proceeds went to the T.A. Food Pantry. Please don't forget about them during the holidays and winter months when their need is greatest. Although things have slowed down a lot here at A.L., there is still plenty to do if you look for it. Shuffleboard has begun on Thurs. Evenings. Game Night is every Tues. Evening at the BH. Exercise Room and Aerobics seem to become more popular at this time of year. Whatever your pleasure, stay involved. Christmas/holiday decorations will be going up soon. Get involved. Business has slowed considerably of late at the lodge. If you want it to stay open, use it. The more the merrier. Nobody really enjoys eating/drinking alone, so bring your friends. Just a word on recent scams in the area. Always be alert to phone, mail and solicitations and requests, even if they are from FAMILY. 3

4 The ALPOA Employee Christmas Party will be held on Sun. Dec. 11th at the Lodge starting at 4 PM. We asked that PO's on campus help with side dishes, dessert or set up, serving and clean up. A sign up sheet will be at the front desk ASAP. The POC will, again, give each employee a gift card in appreciation for his or her work throughout the year. ALPOC Christmas /Holiday Party The PO's will be celebrating the Holidays on Friday, Dec. 16th at 6 PM at the Lodge. The buffet will include an interesting array of foods for only $ 17, which includes coffee, tax and gratuities. If you like to bring an appetizer or dessert to share, it would be appreciated. We do that to keep the cost down. It is very important to sign up for this event at the front desk. Cut off date is Monday Dec.12th. Feel free to call in if you are not on campus. A sing along and music to dance to will follow with our in house DJ JOHNNY D. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE by Sue Thompson, Chair Another example of Your Beautification Committee at Work involved the recent planting of two dwarf Alberta Spruce pine trees in the two barrels outside the front entrance to the lodge. These will replace the annual flowers in the barrels and can be enjoyed year-round. They are so effective, our committee may decide to plant others in various locations to enhance our lodge. We want to thank several ladies who were involved in this project, and recognize their efforts. Honesty Buczek ordered, picked up and helped unload the trees and potting soil. Others who helped were Trish Birch, Barb Conway and Cathy Young. A big thank you to Barb Conway and our maintenance guru Jeff Lewis for the actual planting of the trees in the barrels. They look great and we thank you all. A side note: We would hope that smokers would refrain from depositing cigarette butts in the barrels. There are receptacles available for them, and it really detracts from the beauty of the plantings. Thank you for your cooperation. OUR NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES Terra Alta Food Pantry We are still collecting food for Thanksgiving and Christmas to give out at the food pantry. Items that are needed - cans of potatoes, small cans of sweet potatoes, cans of cranberry sauce, cans of pumpkin, cans of gravy and gravy mix, stuffing mix, can milk, packages of whipped topping, cake mixes and icing. CLASSIFIED ADS Editor s Note: PLEASE be sure to notify us if your advertised item is no longer available. This section is only effective if it is accurate. Going forward, Classified Ads will run for 3 or 4 issues, unless we re notified to continue them. Thank you for your help in making this a real service for our readers.
