2 Letter from the Camp Director SnowCapades: A Parent s Guide Welcome to SnowCapades! We want everyone to have an enjoyable time, so here are some basics to keep in mind. I would first like to thank our major sponsor, Lucky Bums! We would not be able to put on such an amazing program without their financial and program support! Please enjoy the sleds and tubes they provided, and if you think you might want one for your family, contact Mike@LuckyBums.com. To see a full array of the family snow equipment they provide, please visit The majority of the events will be outside in snow. Please dress in layers so you can keep warm. The dining hall will have a fire going, so parents can choose to sit and relax indoors, and cubs and siblings can warm up when needed. Parents are welcome and encouraged to take part in the stations, take pictures of the events and make memories with your children. The survival bracelets/keychains, Kumihimo, and Christmas Bird Feeders will be indoors and the cubs may need the most help with these station. The lunch menu will be chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup (vegan and gluten free), baked potato bar, green salad, carrots, and cookies. There will also be hot chocolate and dutch oven cobbler available during the day. The menu is geared toward the cubs, please feel free to bring other snacks if you would like to. I m sorry, but we can t cater to any special dietary needs. The cubs and siblings will have the opportunity to take home bracelets, Bird Feeders, and other take-aways. What they bring home will depend on which stations they choose to visit and take part in. There should be time enough to attend all stations if they want to. If you pre-registered great! Stop by the check-in table in the lodge for your patches and instructions. If you did not register early, please bring your checkbook (cost is $10/person) and we can take care of registration when you arrive. We also have a limited number of special edition SnowCapades 2016 Beanies, SnowFlings, and Woogles for sale near the check-in area. We hope you have a great time with us in McCall. 3 Logistics Location & Time Camp Morrison, 2306 Eastside Dr. McCall, ID Drive to McCall via Highway 55. Turn East off Highway 55 at the McCall Brewing Company on Park Street. Drive to Davis Avenue and turn left. Drive down Davis past the golf courses to Lick Creek Road. Turn right onto Lick Creek Road and follow it to the turnoff of Eastside Drive. Continue down Eastside Drive until you reach Camp Morrison on your right. 10AM 3PM Registration Anyone planning on attending must register Cub Scout, Parents, Leaders, Family, Friends, etc... Register at the Scout Office - talk to Johnny Beal Register at Camp Morrison the day of your event - the registration / check-in table will be inside the dining hall. Costs On or Before 12/6: $6 After 12/6: $10 Cost Includes Lunch, Prizes, Patch, Survival Bracelet, Winter Bird Feeder, tons of fun Memories! Optional Costs include : SnowCapades 2016 Beanies: $10 SnowFlings: $5 Woggles: $1 Snow is on the Radar There is already snow in McCall, and there is lots more snow in the forecast. 3

4 Before you leave for McCall Check the weather report, make sure roads are open to McCall If Highway 55 is closed between 7:30am and 10:00am SnowCapades will be cancelled. Half of the registration price will be refunded if it is cancelled Not registered yet? Come on up the cost if $10 per person, bring your checkbook for easy registration. Winter coat Snow pants Snow boots Snow Hat Snow Gloves Dry clothes for ride home Do you have water in the car? There is no running water at the Camp during the Winter we will have water brought in 5 gallon coolers, however please be prepared by bringing up water bottles yourself. We are serving chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup (vegan and gluten free), baked potato bar, green salad, carrots, cookies, cobbler, and hot chocolate do you need any other food items? We will not be able to accommodate special dietary needs. Are you bringing any sleds from home? If the children are bringing sleds from home, please label them. Children will have a greater chance to sled if they bring a sled with them. Children are welcome to bring other snow items to play with. Drive safely! We will see you in McCall! 4

5 You made it to Camp Morrison...Now what? After parking your vehicle: Please come to the Dining Hall to register/check-in. We want to know when you arrive (and leave) so we can keep track of everyone and stay safe. We will have an opening ceremony outside by the flag poles at 10 am. We hope that you can be there to join us. If you come later, that is alright too. The important part is to arrive safely. At check-in you will receive your patches, and instructions on lunch time, where the events and where the bathrooms are. We will also have our special SnowCapades Beanies, Snowflings, and Woggles on display for purchase at the check in table. Of course we will also be able to answer any questions that you have. We encourage parents and leaders to come and help at the stations. Take pictures, create memories and have fun! Lunch Noon: Lunch will be served around noon in the Dining Hall. Chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup (vegan and gluten free), baked potato bar, green salad, carrots, and cookies are on the menu. Prizes will be awarded, and then the events will continue until 2:30 pm, at which point we expect to have a special jolly- ol guest arrive. We hope that you all enjoy the day with us! 5

6 Events and Activities Tubing / Disc Sledding Hill Got a Tube or Disk Sled we ve got some too, but feel free to bring yours (please put your name on it). We have a special windy course just for you. Dutch oven cobblers Make sure to stop by our master cobbler chief station to warm up with a delicious treat! Snowball target practice See how far you can get a snowball to fly! Use our Snow Flings and Slings or just your good ol fashion arm! Can you hit our targets? Toboggan Sled Run We will have approximately ten downward sleds available, you can bring your own sleds (and label it with your name) if you would like to increase your sled time. Scavenger Hunt / Lunch Time Prizes Get to know other scouts in the council by participating in the Scavenger Hunt for signatures. Talk to other scouts and parents and learn who has done some cool things in scouting. Participants will have a chance to earn prizes during lunch if they are able to answer challenge questions, or if they have turned in a scavenger hunt sheet they will be eligible to win! Survival bracelet/keychain Come inside to the dining hall and use your knot tying skills to make a bracelet or keychain. These survival items help you have paracord with you in case of emergency. Flag Retirement Ceremony Participate in a flag retirement ceremony with the Boy Scouts. 10:30am, 1pm, and 2pm near the parking lot (above the Dinning Hall) How to Have Fun in the Winter and be Safe Presentation 11am at the Flag Pole The US Forest Service will be there to speak on winter safety and leave no trace. Kumihimo, the Art of Japanese Braiding Kumi himo is Japanese for "gathered threads". Make a braid using an ancient method that shows your Scout colors. Christmas Bird Feeders Decorate the trees in your yard with a Christmas string that will also feed the birds. Snowshoe Course Try out our new snowshoeing course. We will have youth and adult snowshoes for a winter trek. 6
