2 Licking District Klondike Derby 2016 The Highland Games Hosted by the Kaniengehaga Chapter, Tecumseh Lodge 65, Order of the Arrow This handout contains information that everyone needs to know for Klondike Derby Information pertinent to site leaders will be contained in a separate handout this year. READ THIS ENTIRE HANDOUT! Date: January 15th thru 17th 2016 Cost: $10 per person if you preregister on the Council s website by January 1st!! The cost goes up to $12 if you register between Jan Adults who are there to work a station will not charged for registration. Maximum of 4 adults per station. You will get a 2016 patch with your registration/volunteering to work. Please see Webelos section for special exception. ANY SCOUT NOT DRESSED PROPERLY, AS DECIDED BY THE EVENT STAFF WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE COURSE. (Adults and youth) During registration at camp masters, you will be given a wrist band for the lunch. You will need to show wrist band to get lunch. Remember, patrols can have a maximum of 8 members!! After you have registered, your patrol will proceed to the sled inspection station. They will mark you as passed on your ticket.

3 Lunch Lunch will be served at the Dining Hall. Menu: Choice of : Chili, Chicken Soup, or Vegetable Soup, Snack Cakes, Chips, Cupcakes, Hot Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Bread Menu Subject to Change NEW We will not deliver lunch to cabins or stations!! You need to come to the Dining Hall. Radio Communication The OA and site leaders will have radio communications in case of emergency. Troops are encouraged to use family radios to communicate during the event. Cabins/Campsites: Reservations will be working a little differently this year for cabins. If your troop would like to stay in a cabin this year, you will need an ACCURATE estimate of people you will have, adults and youth, and bring that to the November round table. Also bring a first and second choice of cabin. The OA will then place troops based on desired cabin and number attending. This will ensure that every cabin will be full and all troops that want to camp can and will be comfortable. Payment will be due at the January round table. If you end up sharing each troop is responsible for an equal share of the payment. Make checks payable to Simon Kenton Council. The Adirondacks is open for camping this year. The OA will be the functioning camp master for Klondike so we will need to know where everyone is. 4 Auction Patrols will earn points at the activity sites to use in the auction. Each site will give a maximum of 10 points per patrol. The maximum points a patrol can earn on the trail is 120 points. The sled race winners will be given points in the following increments: 1 st = 15 points, 2 nd = 10 points, 3 rd = 5 points. Sleds will be stopped along the trail and be given a trivia question worth 5, 10, or 15 points. It will be the patrols decision as to what point question they want. Assuming your patrol scores perfects on all 12 sites, gets the 15 point trivia question right and wins the sled race, you can earn a maximum of 150 points. Patrols may not combine their points for use as a troop in the auction. Webelos The Kaniengehaga Chapter adheres to National BSA standards, so there will be no Webelos or Cub Scouts allowed participating in the event. Webelos may camp with your troops to satisfy Arrow of Light requirements, but they will not be able to participate in the event. Any patrols found with Webelos or Cub Scouts participating will be immediately disqualified from the event and barred from the auction. If you have Webelos who want to observe, they must register!! Patches We will be selling older patches at Camp Master Cabin. Webelos will not be eligible to receive a patch for the 2016 event as they are not able to participate. This goes for Webelos who are camping with your troop!! HQ/First Aid The Dining Hall will be Klondike kickoff and First Aid for Klondike Registration, kickoff, and closing are at upper camp as well as the sled race. Klondike HQ will be Franklin Lodge. Fire Starters The use of so called Fat Wood, which is wood that can be bought in stores and that is soaked in sap is not permitted as a fire starter during Klondike. Homemade starters made of wax or sawdust are ok, no girl scout juice!! List of Equipment for Patrols Patrols, it is to your advantage to carry the following items on your sled: BSA Handbook and Field Guide (3-4)6 Scout staves/poles Tarp and Blanket Matches and homemade fire starters Hot Sparks/Magnesium Strikers Dry kindling Watch Paper and pencil 25 Rope 2 length of rope for each member of patrol Two or more Compasses First Aid Kit Knife(s) Water Bottle/Cup for everyone Small Pan/ Pot for Cooking (2) 2 poles

5 Sled Rules and Restrictions The sled must be a dogsled design, no plastic hill sleds No wheels allowed skis are ok There must be one member from each patrol riding in the sled going in and out of stations (weather permitting) Please think safety (some way to secure the person in the sled) You may not carry your sled, it must be pulled on the ground Golf Station Each patrol is required to BRING with them 3 golf clubs; a driver, an iron and a putter. The clubs are to be made with natural materials. These materials can be wood, stone, etc. You may use twine, rope or any other natural material to construct your golf clubs. You will take one shot with each club, the patrol closest to the pin after the three shots will be declared the winner. Points will be given on ingenuity of club material, workmanship and golfing accuracy.
