Come experience the ULTIMATE Wotamalo Klondike Derby on FEBRUARY 3, 2018, at Camp Wokanda. Challenging stations will test your endurance and skills. Enjoy a weekend of scouting fun and adventure, sharpen your scouting skills and see if you have what it takes to survive the Northern Lights! All of the information you need to see the Northern Lights is included in this packet. 2 Event Details: DATE: We will start our journey on Saturday, February 3, 2018 PLACE: Camp Wokanda, 620 East Boy Scout Road, Chillicothe, IL Cabins are able to be reserved on a first come first serve basis. Please call (309) (Camp Wokanda). Tent camping will be available at no cost. COST: The registration fee for each Scout and Adult is $12 if registration is received on or before Friday, January 19, After January 19, the fee for each person will be $15 per individual. The fee covers event patch, program and lunch supplies, awards, and insurance. Registering prior to the early bird deadline guarantees a patch and a Prospektor s Bag. Each person must bring the following: A completed BSA Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A & B. Unit leaders will retain these records throughout the event. A completed Peoria Park District Liability Waiver (attached) Two cans of chili OR chicken noodle soup per person (for Saturday lunch) A water bottle Troops will provide the following: Entry into dutch oven cook-off event (dessert) All meals (except Saturday lunch) Your own drinks for Saturday lunch Hosts will provide the following: Bowls, spoons, cups, napkins Extra dessert Remember Dress warm! Winter boots (no athletic shoes), layered clothing, gloves, and hats are essential. This is an ALL-DAY, OUTDOOR event in January, so watch the forecast and dress appropriately. If you are camping, please review cold weather camping information in the Scout Handbook, Fieldbook, and other resources. AWARDS! 4 Station Descriptions BONANZA CREEK Finding treasure takes skill. You'll need to keep your bearings to find the ultimate prize. GOLD RUSH GRUB To feed hungry miners, you'll need to make some dampers (a.k.a. biscuits). You ll need to bring a secret ingredient to add to the basic recipe if you want to win the prize here. GOLDEN STEPS It's a harsh terrain in the Klondike. You'll need your First Class skills and teamwork to get over the mountain. SKAGWAY Once you reach the Klondike, you'll need protection against the elements for your whole patrol and sled. KLONDIKE INFERNO The Klondike is freezing cold. You'll need to know how to build a good fire and keep it going. WHITE PASS There's an avalanche and you need to save the sled and all of its contents before disaster strikes. HUNTING LODGE A prospector has to eat. Do you have what it takes to rustle up some vittles? LOCKJAW The Klondike is a dangerous place. You'll need all your skills to survive the rugged outback. BONUS: Watch out for Miner, Forty-Niner! Receive extra points for answering trivia questions Attend December roundtable for sneak preview

5 Appendix A Sled Station Rules Note: Troops can participate in Klondike with pre-made sleds but will forfeit the points that can be earned at the Sled- Building Station. Point values are yet to be determined, but points for this station will be comparable to the other stations at Klondike. Rule 1: Only Boy Scouts/Venturers are allowed in Sled Building Area. Rule 2: Patrols are encouraged to bring everything they will need to build their sled. Wokanda might offer many natural materials, but they will be very difficult to find on Friday night in the dark. Rule 3: To attain maximum points, the only manufactured items allowed as part of a Klondike sled are a set of skis (can be screwed to two pole runners) and bucket of twine. For maximum points, all other sled materials should be of the kind you can find naturally in the woods. Rule 4: No wagons, or plastic sleds. Rule 5: If using wheels, must be removable for sled race Rule 6: This is not a timed event. Patrols can work on their sleds in established sled building areas up until 9 PM Friday evening and 7 to 8:00 AM Saturday morning. Sleds must be presented for evaluation Saturday between 7:30-8 AM. Scoring: Sleds will be evaluated and graded based on composition and quality of lashings. Appendix B Cooking Competition Rule 1: Only Scout leaders over 18 are allowed to enter the competition. Rule 2: Entries must be entered clearly marked with Cook s Name and the Troop/Patrol the person is supporting. Troops may have multiple entries. Rule 3: Provide a recipe card with name and troop number on back. Recipes are needed to allow anyone with allergies to know what is in the dish. Rule 4: Meal must be cooked on site in campsites and brought to dining hall prior to judging time. Rule 5: Please provide serving utensils. Scoring: Dishes will be evaluated and graded based on taste, appearance, and creativity. Once dishes are judged and subsequently consumed by Klondike participants at lunch, please collect your pots/cast iron and serving utensils.

7 Peoria Park District & Camp Wokanda Liability Waiver and Release of All Claims We are excited that you have chosen Camp Wokanda for your weekend trip. Camp Wokanda provides opportunities for a variety of activities, some of which include canoeing, fishing, hiking, archery, and camping. This form is vital in ensuring your safety and the safety of your child or ward. A Liability Waiver must be signed for any troop leader, volunteer or scout attending camp. It is the troop leader s responsibility to have all signed waivers upon arrival, so make sure to return this form as soon as possible to your leader. If you or your child need any special accommodations, the troop leader must know prior to arrival for arrangements with Camp Wokanda. The Peoria Park District will make reasonable accommodation to disabled individuals who meet essential eligibility requirements for the trip to Camp Wokanda.
