1 Deep Creek Gardens Fun and Facts Sheet By Frances Levatino March, 2019 Community Wow, it seems like just a short time ago we were welcoming people back to DCG. It has been a fun filled season at The Gardens. So to all who will be leaving soon I wish you safe travel and have a wonderful summer. The Association has hired another maintenance person. His name is Brian and we welcome him to our staff. It has been decided to deliver the newsletter to every unit even though it has been posted on the web site. Due to the end of the season, there is important information that all residents and renters should have available to make sure units are closed properly for the summer months. There are also management changes that will soon become effective. It is necessary that everyone have correct and up to date information. FYI All owners should have their air conditioning units regularly serviced twice a year to avoid problems. If the unit is vacant during the summer months it is recommended that you consult with a professional concerning the thermostat and humidistat settings. With the summer heat and humidity in Florida, these steps are necessary to deter mold growth. You should have someone check your unit often to make sure the air conditioning unit is working properly. When you leave your unit for the season, remove all perishable food items from the refrigerator. In the event of a power failure food spoils very quickly. A list of recommended closing procedures is available in the office. Please avail yourself of this important information
2 Library The library has been greatly used during the year. In order to maintain the organization of the library, it would be helpful when returning books during the summer months, please shelve the books by the Author s last name. Sincere thanks to Kathy Adams and Jan Gerding for their efforts in organizing the bookshelves this winter. There is much to be done and volunteers are needed to help in this worthwhile endeavor. Contact Kathy Adams in C104. Meetings The Annual Meeting was held on February 12, 2019 at Harbour Heights Civic Association. There was also an election of three Board of Directors members. President Sue Armbruster read a letter of resignation from Manager Beverly Botelho effective February 20, Coming Events There are so many things to enjoy at DCG including the coffee social being held on alternate Saturdays. Bingo, game night, movie night, pickle ball and bocce. Ladies luncheon and book club are well attended. Residents sign up for golf on Wednesday at Kings Gate GC. Residents gathered at Ice House Pub for a game of darts on Tuesday afternoon. Monday Movie Night at 7:00pm continues to be held on the first and third Monday of the month. Please check bulletin boards for up to date information. On Thursday, March 12 noon a Ladies' Luncheon will be held at Olde World Restaurant in Northport. Contact Johanna Finn by March 12th. The Deep Creek Gardens Book Discussion Group will meet Monday, March 11 th at 1:00pm in the clubhouse. Bring a snack to share and your beverage of choice. They will be discussing Only Time Will Tell by Jeffrey Archer. Contact Johanna Finn for additional information. An Ice Cream Social will take place by the pool on Monday, March 18th at 2:00-4:00. The cost is $2.00 and the exact amount would be greatly appreciated.
3 Coming Events continued Mark your calendar for the DCG Picnic to be held on site March 21, 2019 from 1:00-4:00pm. Chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, and baked beans will be served. The cost is $10.00 per person. Payment must be made by March 19 th to Kathy Adams in C104 or Debi Manzi C204. The food must be ordered so make sure you are not left out of this fun filled afternoon. Desserts are welcome. Rick VanGoethem has planned a Golf Scramble for Saturday, March 23 rd at Kings Gate Golf Course. There will be a sign up sheet on the club house bulletin board. Refreshments will follow in the clubhouse (about 5:00pm) cost is $10.00 for golfers, for non- golfers the cost is $5.00. The Bocce League will hold an end of the year gathering on Saturday, March 30 th. Gourmet hot dogs and chips will be served at approximately 1:00pm. Dick Adams has made arrangements for a single elimination tournament. Entry fee is $10.00 per team followed by a championship game. First game will start at 9:00am. Not a team, put one together. Let Dick know if your team is not participating by March 25, A schedule of play will be posted on March 27 th. Social Functions February at Deep Creek was busy. Previous activities continued with some additional fun filled events. A large group celebrated Super Bowl Sunday, February 3 rd. Watching the game on the large screen TV was very enjoyable. Ladies met for lunch at Farlow s, in Englewood. Aimee VanGoethem planned an outstanding luncheon. Joyce Vandermeer planned Sweet Sunday on February 10 th. Those in attendance came with their favorite desserts to share. On February 18 th a group from Deep Creek Gardens ventured to Key West, leaving by boat from Fort Meyers. Many stayed the night in Key West and returned on Tuesday. Lucille Ross planned the excursion which was enjoyed by all on the trip!
4 Thursday, February 21 st was Italian Night at the clubhouse. Those in attendance enjoyed great food and friendship. Music was provided by Joe Levatino. To all who helped make the evening a wonderful experience thank you. Special appreciation to Barbara Stirling and Debi Manzi for their efforts. President's Message Happy March!
