1 BENT TREE VILLAS WEST CONDO ASSOCIATION A 55 AND OLDER COMMUNITY OFFICE FAX BTVW Newsletter December 2017 Dear Neighbors, I ll begin by saying thank you on behalf of the Board of Directors for your support after the resignation of our President and Treasurer. Many thanks to Jimmy Vecchione for coming on board to cover the Security position and Mark Alexander to cover the Treasurer s position. We are doing our best to move forward and continue with our focus on the Landscaping projects. Keep an eye open to see what our new Gardening Committee is planning for us. They are working diligently to start planting around the Flagpole & the front entrance. This committee came to life as the result of a resident suggesting the concept to our Vice President, John Cozzi. It s been fun watching neighbors volunteering & working together for the good of the community. Welcome back to all of our neighbors that have been away for the summer. We hope you are ready to enjoy Our Little Piece of Paradise this winter. From all of us to all of you, we wish you a HAPPY HANUKKAH, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR. 4 Resident s Corner... You can tell season is upon us! Many friends and neighbors have returned to BTVW to get away from the cold and wintery weather. A few brave souls will wait until after the New Year to return but for the most part our Snowbirds have returned! The Community Club had its first event of the season in the month of October. About 50 people got together for a Pot Luck dinner & I must say we ve got a bunch of great and creative cooks in our community. Be on the look out for new plantings. The gardening committee is working on ideas to bring beauty to the clubhouse & the front entrance. Many of you have expressed concern about the hedge barrier along Boynton Beach Blvd. no longer being there. Plans are in the works to have the hedges reinstalled before the end of the year. Hopefully this will go a long way towards creating a sound/privacy barrier for the homes along Boynton Beach Blvd. The landscape project continues... We still need to add soil in some places and replace sod in others. This will be done as they add a plant in front of the a/c units. Finally, we will replace hedges after existing stumps have been removed around the pump houses. On November 19th, the Community Club sponsored the annual Thanksgiving Dinner with about 80 residents. Turkey, potatoes, veggies, pies and beverages were on the menu and our attendees seemed delighted with the holiday table! It s nice to see community events going on and hopefully it will continue throughout the year. The Women s Club, in addition to its monthly meetings, is looking into sponsoring some special gatherings including the annual cruise in January, a movie night, and a couple of social events outside of the community. Be sure to check our monthly Newsletter and Channel 63 for more information. All-in-all, our 2018 calendar of events appears to be pretty full with a couple of shows, community gatherings, the Community Club, the Women s Club, and, of course, cards, billiards, Mah Jong, knitting, coloring and our ever-popular weekly BINGO - just to name a few! There s plenty to do, so get involved! Check out the Clubhouse calendar or ask one of the ladies in the office if you have questions. Our Board of Directors meetings are always interesting and filled with the business side of community living. Make it a point to attend these meetings - this is your home and what happens and what doesn t happen here affects YOU. This is YOUR Monthly Newsletter...Your comments and suggestions are always welcome for submission. Page 4 BTVW Newsletter
5 OPEN FLOOR DISCUSSIONS FROM THE NOVEMBER 14, 2017 BOARD MEETING BROUGHT TO YOU BY: CAMILLE ANDREIUCI, SECRETARY FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS CLUBHOUSE: Residents have expressed an interest in having movies shown in the clubhouse. As a result the Board has purchased and installed a professional projector and receiver. We have volunteers looking into running these movies. More information will follow when available. SAFETY: Our Security Director, Jimmy Vecchione has assured the residents that he has been driving around the community and checking the clubhouse on a daily basis. He was pleased to report that 98% of the units are keeping their outside lights on. LANDSCAPING: There was a question as to why Salaries are higher in the 2018 Budget. Board members explained that we hired 2 maintenance men to handle maintenance and some landscaping. We also reported that 57 trees came down during Hurricane Irma and the Board will be following the State of Florida guidelines on what must be replaced. The installation of shrubbery along Boynton Beach Blvd. is about to begin. The new Gardening committee is about to begin planting around the Flagpole and entrance to the parking lot. Plans have been given to the Board for Approval. The Landscaping Director is looking into plantings in front of the Air Conditioning units and pump houses. GENERAL: A resident commended the board on a seamless transition, asked for an explanation as to what brought about the resignation of the President and Treasurer. The explanation was that our President had issues with a decision some Board members made regarding the removal of the wood chips from Apple Tree Circle. As a result he handed in his resignation on October 3rd, but agreed to withdraw it at the request of the Board members. Unfortunately, we found out that it is illegal to do that and the only way to change the situation was for the Board to appoint him back at a Board Meeting. We were unable to schedule a special meeting prior to the October 17th meeting because majority of the board members were not available due to illness, illness or death in their families, or being out of town. It was on the agenda for the October 17th meeting to appoint the president back, but on October 13th he sent the Board an stating that he no longer wished to be a member of the Board. The Treasurer resigned on October 24th without giving a reason. A resident had issues with the way we went about filling the vacancies without input from the community. It was explained by the Board and other residents, that this is a responsibility of the Board. It was also pointed out that the appointed Board members had the credentials and experience to handle this job and we are grateful to them for stepping up. We clearly stated that all meetings are listed on the Board, the newsletter & Channel 63.
