Please your articles to Judy at jacey6@frontier.com. (Thank you, Judy!) Fall is in the air and so begins Alpine s Fall/Winter activities. Monday, October 8th is the very first Movie and Dinner Night of the season. The featured movie is October Sky starting at 5pm at the Boathouse. The much anticipated and popular Shuffleboard returns on Thursday, November 1st at 6pm. It s a great night to have fun and socialize with your neighbors. Come early for dinner before start of game! The Humane Society of Preston County is holding its annual fall Krispy Kreme Donut Sale this month. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society s spading and neutering program. With fall and winter comes the threat of contracting the flu. A flu shot clinic will be available for your convenience on Tuesday, October 9th from 1pm 2pm in the Rhododendron Room. You must sign up at the front desk of the Lodge prior to receiving the shot. And to say farewell to the summer season, the final Carry-in-Picnic will be held at the Boathouse on Thursday, October 18th at 5pm. Until next time CONDOLENCES Our friend and fellow property owner, Peggy Byrne, passed away last week where she was living with her son Butch in Oakland, MD after selling her home on East Alpine Road. She was a faithful PO who attended many of our gatherings here at Alpine Lake including our last Oktoberfest. In years past she always donated the corn for our Labor Day Picnic and brought a nice selection of pumpkins and gourds to help decorate and sell at our Oktoberfest (from her brother Bill Aiken s farm near Accident, MD). Many of us will miss her but not forget her along with her deceased husband, Art. ~ Bernie & Birgit Stock TRAINING EXERCISE The next FWIW will be issued on Friday, October 19th. Please all articles to Judy Engel at jacey@frontier.com The Department of the ARMY will be conducting a training exercise on October 9th from 8am to 7pm near or in Alpine Lake Resort. Don't be alarmed if you see soldiers in their gear walking through the woods. This is only part of their training and Alpine is proud to host these exercises. REMINDER: TERRA ALTA FOOD BANK There is an ongoing need to replenish supplies at our local food bank so please add your donations to help this worthy cause. There is a box inside the front foyer of the Lodge for your convenience. 1

2 FALL KRISPY KREME DONUT SALE by Jenni Mills The Preston County Humane Society is having a Fall Krispy Kreme Donut sale. The money raised goes toward the Spay and Neuter Assistance Program. Orders are due by Friday, October 12th and delivery/pick up at the Lodge on Thursday, October 25 th. Dozens are: Krispy Kreme Original Glazed: $9; Chocolate Iced, Lemon Filled, Raspberry Filled and Kreme Filled: $10; and Special Pumpkin Cake: $11. ALPINE LAKE PROPERTY OWNERS COMMITTEE by Birgit & Bernie Stock ANOTHER OKTOBERFEST SUCCESS: Alpine Lake Resort had its 18th Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 22nd at the Boathouse sponsored by the POC. There were many Property Owners involved in this one day event which took several weeks to prepare for. Everyone worked hard and enjoyed themselves as well. The weather cooperated and we fed and entertained many families, friends and folks from surrounding areas. The event definitely put us back on the map in a positive way. After expenses, which included a $500 donation to the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department for the Band and $300 for the Carriage Rides, totaling $4,300, our net profits were $6,900. We wish to thank everyone who helped in any way to make this event possible. This includes food preparers, servers, sellers, setup, cleanup, the bakers and anyone else I might have missed. Our sponsors besides ALPOA were Clear Mountain Bank, Dusk to Dawn, Snowy Creek Development, Fortitude, Carrie See, Gregg s Pharmacy and Debbie Beitzel Realty. Please support them as they support us. We hope you all took advantage of the nice Oktoberfest Breakfast Buffet at the Lodge on Sunday morning. (If anyone has something to pick up at the Boathouse, do so as soon as possible.) A post-oktoberfest Meeting will take place at the Boathouse on Monday, at 4pm, before the movie at 5pm (October Sky). Any comments, questions, ideas or observations are welcome. Thank You notes to the POC were received recently from the Terra Alta Food Pantry and the Treasure Chest at the Garrett County Lighthouse for our donations from the Yard Sale. Please support these community agencies whenever you can. Our last Carry-In Picnic will take place at the Boathouse on Thursday, October 18th starting at 5pm. Let s wrap up with a good turnout. I will continue to be involved because we have a great community of volunteers who want to make Alpine Lake Resort a beautiful place. I have really had a lot of fun. Doug Smith was the big winner this year capturing both titles. Keith Dewitt finished second in both races. If you haven't played before, please arrive a few minutes early for an orientation it is not complex. Many of us eat at the Lodge before play starts, some eat while playing, and some eat before they come. If you plan on eating before play starts, you need to be at the Lodge by 5:15pm to ensure you have time to finish your meal; otherwise you may join the eat-whileplaying crowd. We will try to start play at 6pm 4

5 SECURITY REMINDER Security Guards have been monitoring speeding in the community, and have given verbal warnings to a number of drivers. It appears that a significant number of drivers do not slow down to 15 MPH as they approach the Lodge, which many times is a congested spot even worse now that the deer are hanging out there. Please be aware that the maximum speed limit anywhere in the community is 25 MPH and in some areas the limit is reduced to 15 MPH. Please slow down or a ticket will be in your future. BOARD NEWS by Barb Conway We recently received notification of WV State approval of our Amended and Restated Articles of Incorporation, which were approved by our Membership in June. As you are already aware, the Articles create a Capital Preservation Fund and set the framework to allocate our funds into operating expenses and capital assets budgets. At the special meeting on September 29th, the Amended and Restated Bylaws were approved by a vote of the Membership. One hundred ballots were cast that represented 209 lots. The vote was 170-Yes (approval of resolution) and 39-No. The revisions to the Bylaws specify information related to the governing of our association: membership, meetings, voting, and the Board of Directors. Two additions to this document are a listing of a significant number of defined terms and Section 20, Capital Preservation: Funding and Policies, which establishes constraints on funding and uses of the Capital Preservation Fund (CPF). A survey of our assets was completed in 2017 to ascertain the remaining useful life of our equipment, which determines when items will need to be replaced and at what cost. Based on this survey, an additional CPF contribution of $399 will be charged to each improved lot owner. Statements will be mailed in October, but payment will not need to be received until the first week in January. For more detailed information, please see the link on social media to the Bylaws Special Meeting information. Thank you to everyone who supported the revisions to our Governing Documents. The revisions should allow us to communicate more efficiently and ensure that the business of the Corporation is conducted in a scheduled orderly manner. The addition of the CPF should strengthen Alpine's fiscal health and provide the means to preserve and replace our assets without borrowing money and/or asking for special assessments. ALPUC NEWS by Kim Mayne, General Manager As we discussed at the annual meeting as well as our meeting this past week, ALPUC is working with Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. The latter engineered the replacement of approximately 1200 feet of sewer main located between the beach and Boathouse area that is in disrepair and a large source of Inflow & Infiltration to our sewer plant. Work began at the site after Labor Day and has since been delayed several times due to weather related issues. Work is now continuing on the repair and we hope to continue to make progress on the project. Stay tuned for future updates. The time has come to put your winterization plan into action!
