5 Lancaster House The Venue Lancaster House THE Venue A unique environment that contrasts Britain s heritage and a contemporary bold national statement. Lancaster House will be transformed into the British Business Embassy during the London 2012 Games. This non-locog branded venue will host the UK Government s Global Business Summit programme, showcasing UK capability to the world. All eyes will be on the UK next summer and this prestigious venue in the heart of London will be the place to do business. Events will be streamed live to regional locations across the UK and international hubs, linked to feeds on YouTube and Twitter, with highlights featured by the BBC during Games time. 7 Overview OVERVIEW The Global Business Summit events will run throughout the Olympics and Paralympics, involving major leaders and opinion formers from governments, companies and organisations around the world. The events will position the UK as a thought leader, a creative and innovative nation and source of solutions from products and services to technologies and ground breaking ideas. The programme will include the Global Investment Conference and country days for China and Brazil (as preceding and succeeding Olympic hosts). There will also be a series of summits, with sector specific programmes and networking opportunities at lunch and evening receptions. The British Business Embassy Energy Summit will run for two days on the 6 & 7 August 2012 and will be titled The Journey to Smart Energy. 07

10 The Energy Focus THE ENERGY FOCUS The British Business Embassy Energy Summit has been developed in close collaboration with key industry stakeholders and companies covering the various energy subsectors to ensure we are covering the full diversity of the energy mix, with specific focus on issues that matter to UK industry and are relevant to the overseas audience. The world s energy landscape is undergoing a dramatic transformation, driven by the need for cleaner and more secure sources of energy. On current trends, worldwide demand for energy is expected to rise by just over 50 percent by 2030, reaching over 17 billion tonnes of oil equivalent per year. The global challenge is to find and develop more energy sources and use it more efficiently, reducing carbon emissions. The overall aim of the Energy Summit is to debate the opportunities and challenges faced by government and industry in delivering safe, secure, sustainable, smarter energy ecosystems i.e. from the extraction through to the end user. Day 1: A focus on UK energy infrastructure, therefore there is a strong focus on inward investment throughout the day. Day 2: More of an International trade focus, with key investors in target markets identified as attendees and participants of the day. UKTI will achieve at least 10,000 media impressions in regional, trade and international media in and around Games time. Leading magazines will cover different parts of the Global Investment Conference. A paid media campaign is planned to run in India, Japan, USA, China, France, Canada and Germany. UKTI will deploy its four marketing hubs in New York, Hong Kong, Brussels and Dubai to promote the Olympics programme and secure local language coverage.
