4 INVITATION Dear Colleagues On behalf of the Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists and the 2017 Scientific Organising Committee, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to the world s most liveable city, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia for the 55th AACB Annual Scientific Conference Time Sensitive Testing. Our commitment to the patient is to generate the right result, on the right patient in the right time frame, to deliver to the clinician the optimal opportunity to effectively manage the patient. We have heard much about error minimisation, standardisation and evidence based medicine over recent years. Great strides have been made in each of these areas. This year s Conference brings together these and other themes to highlight the clinical and management sides related to time sensitive testing. The 2017 David Curnow Plenary Lecturer is Professor Hans Schneider, Director of Pathology at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. Professor Schneider will open the conference with his lecture on Critical Result Communication. The Scientific Program continues with a wealth of plenary lectures and symposia each with a distinct clinical theme, ranging from neonatal medicine to cardiac disease and sepsis. I refer you to the cavalcade of speakers for a truly global perspective. The Melbourne meeting will run for three days from TUESDAY 12 to THURSDAY 14 September We have also scheduled two satellite meetings. On MONDAY 11 we have a Protein Electrophoresis Harmonisation Workshop and on FRIDAY 15 there is the next instalment of the popular quality control workshops ( Quality Control Workshop Part 5 ). We are delighted that Dr David Keren from the US and a doyen in the area of protein electrophoresis will be attending along with other local and overseas guest speakers. 8 PROGRAM INFORMATION CALL FOR ABSTRACTS Abstracts are invited from all areas in and around clinical biochemistry to present as an oral or poster presentation. While the AACB encourages the submission of abstracts from all areas related to clinical biochemistry, we also encourage submissions related to the Conference theme, "Time Sensitive Testing". KEY DATES: Call for Abstracts Closes: 2 June 2017 Notification of Acceptance: From 10 July 2017 Early Bird Registration Closes: 21 July 2017 Presenter Registration Deadline: 21 July 2017 Abstracts must be submitted online. Applications close 16 June APFCB-AACB TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIPS APFCB is offering 2 (two) scholarships of SGD 2000 each for successful candidates to attend the Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists 55 th Annual Scientific Conference in Melbourne, VIC.
