Dear Rotarians, Rotractors, and Friends of Rotary, I welcome you all to this fellowship at the beginning of October, opening the second quarter of the Rotary year. We have learnt something in the first quarter, from the DG s visit and by visiting other clubs as well as their projects. The time is now to put into practice what we have been planning and what we preach. Thank you very much for the support so far but we need it more than ever before to accomplish our set and desired goals. We need everybody s participation in projects besides just being visible in fellowships. You are requested to visit other clubs and their projects as a way of expressing our gratitude for the tremendous support we get from them. I have promised to visit many clubs but so far unable to fulfil all but I know for sure that I will. VISIT TO LIRA SUBREGION (WATER AND SANITATION PROJECT) Last Thursday, six of us set off for Lira to visit and assess the progress of our global grant project in Aloi, Leptong District and Barlonyo, Lira District. This group comprised of PP James Serugo, PP Edward Bakojja, Treasurer Joseph Tinka, Phiona Barungi, Robert Mutaawe and myself. I welcome those Rotarians and at the same time thank them as well as their families for the service rendered. The trip was good and enjoyable because we were cordially received wherever we went and we were individually rewarded by Rotary according us such an opportunity to access such areas. In Aloy, two schools will benefit from Clean water, one will have biogas cooking facilities and water will be extended to nearby communities. Tree seedlings will be provided to both schools and members of the community. In Barlonyo, one school will benefit from provision of clean water, biogas system and tree seedlings for planting. In all cases water pumps using solar energy will be in use. The contractors of this project appeared to be well versed in what they were doing and our project manager, Isaac is a brilliant and pleasant person. I hope and believe that completion of the first phase will be accomplished in a month s time. We pray that this project improves the living standards of these people in all respects as it is intended to do. Wishing you all a very happy October. Be a gift to the world. Pres. 4 Guest Speaker s Profile CODE GURUS Executive Summary BV kit is a self-test mobile application to enable women test for unhealthy vaginal bacteria which if stays long without being treated makes its patients susceptible to the HPV virus that causes cervical cancer. Organization History Team Code Gurus came together in January 2015 as a group of 5 students all from Makerere University and includes: Nanyombi Margaret Marketer Ndagire Esther Coordinator Nairuba Pauline Researcher NamandaJackline Graphics Designer Mendoza Bridget Hardware specialist Nafula Winfred Secretary Background: Women are generally timid to get tested especially with issues concerning their reproductive health. Many tend to only seek medical attention when they notice a worsened condition. Bacterial Vaginosis a condition that arises due to having a lot of unhealthy bacteria in the reproductive parts of a woman. Bacterial Vaginosis if not treated makes its patients susceptible to Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which causes cervical cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, miscarriages in women and the Pelvic inflammatory disease that leads to difficulty in childbirth. Team code gurus with the BV kit solution BV Kit is a self-test mobile application which is the Vaginosis application that works with hardware with an embedded PH sensor to help women test for unhealthy vaginal bacteria as regularly as possible. The woman carries out the test by collecting a urine sample in clean pee cup, places the PH sensor unit in urine sample which picks the PH values of the urine and send them to the Vaginosis application using Bluetooth. The Vaginosis application reads the values and gives a diagnosis whether the woman has healthy or unhealthy bacteria. It further gives possible signs and symptoms if they are sick and where they can find a doctor. The plan is to make the BV kit available and as affordable as possible to all women. The mobile application that is used with the kit will be free to download and use. He suddenly realized his car front lights were no longer working so he decided to start driving on the road at the back of a car whose front lights were working perfectly and he felt he could get off the main road safely by tailing the car. Akpors plan was going smoothly in his mind when all of a sudden the car in front stopped moving. Akpors waited for close to 10 minutes in his car but the car in front didn t move. Akpors shouted; Why did you stop, come on, keep driving. The man in the car shouted back; You must be mad and drunk, you have been following me since and I was afraid to come down thinking you were an assassin; should I keep driving even after I have entered my own garage??? 6 Since May 20 th 1957, District 9211, R.I Zone 20A RCKLA Rotary Club of Kampala Web: Since May 20 th 1957, District 9211, R.I Zone 20A RCKLA Rotary Club of Kampala Web: 7
