1 ROTARY: ROTARY: MAKING MAKING A A DIFFERENCE The Rotary Wheel Namuziga means Wheel in Luganda Rotary Club of Kampala Club Vol. 8 Issue 25 Thursday 20 th December 2018 President s Message Dear Rotary family members and friends, You are very welcome to our last meeting of the calendar year. Today s fellowship is special in a way because it comes at such a time that falls within the festive season and thanks giving for the year 2018, which is coming to an end. I urge you all to enjoy the company of one another as we fellowship together for the good of humanity. The year 2018 has been a mixed bag of sorts. We ve had both good and bad times; successes and challenges. On the low side, we lost our dear member- Past President Edward Bakojja on 20th February Other Club members have lost dear ones whereas others have suffered from poor health and other challenges. We continue to pray to God the Almighty to rest the souls of the deceased in eternal peace and also to comfort the families of all the bereaved and to heal those who are ill or in need of solace. The Club continues to grapple with a few challenges that are man-made or occasioned by exogenous factors. With the mercy and grace of God; we ve been able to tackle some of the challenges and registered good progress. It is our sincere hope and prayer that with God s blessings we shall continue to serve above self and attain our set goals both within the short and long term. We count on the goodwill and continued support of the Club members! On a rather high note, the Rotary Club of Kampala has registered significant achievements lately in as far as service projects are concerned. The Rotary Foundation (TRF) has reviewed and approved applications that were submitted by the Club in partnership and cooperation with other local and foreign Clubs. The TRF has approved two projects in memory of the late Sam F. Owori, which amount to a combined total n the region of US$600,000. These are; the Sam F. Owori Memorial Gift of Life Project whose main goal is carry out open heart surgery on 150 children at the Uganda Heart Institute in Mulago plus training of medical personnel (about US$280,000) and; the Sam F. Owori Memorial Wash Project at Merikit village in Tororo, which will provide powered water pump, a 100,000 liter water reservoir, piped water to 6 schools, water stands, toilets in 4 schools and a public toilet in the marketplace complimented with hygiene and sanitation training. The award is in the amount of close tob US$ 230,000. Latest information indicates that yet anothet global grant application for funding to provide training and equipment to support the sanitation and hygiene needs at a school in Sonepat, Haryana, India, submitted by the Rotary Club of Sonepat and the Rotary Club of Kampala, has been approved by Rotary Foundation (India) (RF(I)) and the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation (TRF). The award is in the amount of US$41,350. We also expect the Acid Attack Victims Rehabilitation Project to come on board soon. The above achievements are extra-ordinary by any standard and all the teams that have worked so hard to bring them to fruition are highly applauded and commended. I also wish to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all Board members that have worked tireless above self not only for the good of the Club but humanity in general. I also thank Club members for the continued support that you unreservedly extend to me as President of the Club and indeed to the Board of Directors and other organs of the Club especially those that are charged with overseeing the Rotary Hospital in Mukono. We greatly appreciate your generous contributions towards the completion of the hospital. The recent funds drive that raised over UGX 40M largely from Club members was highly appreciated. We encourage you to keep up the spirit! seed and other farm inputs among vulnerab Since May 20 population th th 1957, District 9211, R.I R.I Zone 20A RCKLA Rotary Club of of Kampala is generated, analyzed, Web: Web: shared a A special word of thanks goes to our corporate members/ partner s - dfcu Bank for Club President Stephen Semuga their generous offer of UGX 150M per year to the Club for the next three years towards the Club s projects and most especially the Rotary Hospital in Mukono. When Fermina eventually chooses to marry a wealthy, well-born doctor, Florentino is heartbroken, but he is a romantic. As he rises in his business career he whiles away the years in 622 affairs--yet he reserves his heart for Fermina. Her husband dies at last, and Florentino purposefully attends the funeral. Fifty years, nine months, and four days after he first declared his love for Fermina, he will do so again.
