Th Bismarck was abl to shak off hr pursurs and was racing undtctd to Franc whn an unfortunat radio mssag was issud by Lutjns to Grmany, dtailing th victory of th prvious morning. Th British wr abl to locat th sourc of th signal and th chas was on again. Th jump that th Bismarck had gaind mant that th aircraft carrir Ark Royal was all that stood btwn hr and safty. Early th nxt day, th battlships King Gorg Vand Rodny caught up with th Bismarck as hr crw was vainly trying to rpair th damag. At ths odds, and in th condition sh was in, th Bismarck was doomd to dfat. Firing for almost two hours, th British battlships wr unabl to sink hr, although thy knockd out all of hr guns. 2 BASIC GAME ( 1.2 Brif Synopsis of Play Th Basic Gam is playd in turns, ach rprsnting four hours of ral tim. In ach turn, both playrs scrtly mov any or all ships and air units undr thir command on th sarch board. Each playr may thn call out zons in which h has sarching ships and/or air units in an attmpt to locat th opponnt's ships. If an air unit locats an nmy ship in its zon, it may conduct an air strik. If opposing ships ar discovrd in th sam zon, thy may procd to combat on th Battl Board. Ships fir simultanously and damag is rcordd on th HIT RECORD PAD. Each playr uss a sarch board to manuvr his ships and air units in an attmpt to locat opposing ships and convoys. All movmnt and location of units on th sarch board must b hiddn from th viw of th opponnt. Playrs can. ithr plac a box-half upright btwn th two boards (placing on board ovr th box lid to hold it in plac) or plac ach board in a diffrnt location in ordr to accomplish this. Printd on ach sarch board is a map of th North Atlantic ovr which th Bismarck qpration occurrd. Th map has bn dividd fjlto squar 'zons'. Each zon is approximatly 90 statut mils in lngth. Ships may only ntr or mov through zons which contain a grid-coordinat (EXCEPTION: s TERRAIN EFFECTS CHART). Air units may ntr any zon ithr with or without a grid-coordinat. No unit can ntr a portion of th map which dos not contain a zon. Partial zons containing a grid-coordinat (and th Bordaux air bas) along th dg of th board and along som of th land bordrs ar considrd and usd as normal zons. Partial z s without a grid-coordinat othr than Bordaux cannot b ntrd by any unit. '. Each grid-coordinat is composd of on lttr and on or two digits.
