2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 27 AUG 18 TO 2 SEP 18 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 27 13: : : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS CTL LAND Kamloops, 4 Penticton, 4 Wells Gray and 6 Shuswap SAR members responded to an injured DFO worker that had a potential broken ankle at Upper Barriere River. The subject was extricated using HETS. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue a mountain biker with a possible upper femur fracture on the north side of Nicolas North Golf Course, near Whistler. The patient was carried out by SAR to a waiting ambulance. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to assist with 2 lost hikers at the peak of Mount Albert Edward in Strathcona Provincial Park. The lost hikers were located and assisted out of the area in good shape. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to a hiker who suffered an allergic reaction on Mt. Garibaldi. The subject was rescued and transported by SAR to the medical clinic for observation. NWE LAND Stewart SAR members responded to retrieve a subject who suffered a fall on Spatsizi Plateau. The team was stood down as the injured hiker hired a private helicopter to extract them. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded for an injured biker on Mount Seymour near North Vancouver. The patient was recovered by SAR and handed off to BCAS. CTL LAND Kamloops, Vernon, and Shuswap SAR members responded to assist with a missing and possibly despondent subject in the Lac du Bois area near Kamloops. The subject was successfully located and passed to BCAS. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to an overdue hiker in the Paradise Meadows area of Strathcona Park, adjacent to Mount Washington. The subject self rescued and SAR assistance was not required. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded for 2 lost hikers on the backside of Mount Benson in Nanaimo. The SAR team used a cell phone to assist the hikers to a trail that led down the hill. VIR LAND Saltspring Island SAR members responded to a stuck hiker on Mount Maxwell. The team was stood down after subject was able to make it to a road and hike out. SEA Revelstoke SAR member responded for 2 missing canoeists on the Columbia River near Revelstoke. SAR was stood down after RCMP received information that the 2 subjects were located in good condition : SEA LAND Golden SAR members responded for 3 overdue hikers near Golden. The subjects were located and transported back to their vehicle by SAR SEA LAND Arrow Lake and 4 Kaslo SAR members

3 responded for a stranded subject that was stuck on a steep cliff. The subject was located and was handed off to the RCMP : : : : : : : : : : : SWE LAND Kimberley SAR members responded for an unconscious elderly subject near the White Swan Lake FSR. SAR was stood down after the patient was retrieved by private vehicle and was transferred to BCAS. NWE LAND Bulkley Valley SAR members responded for a horseback rider that fell off the horse somewhere near Adams Road, Smithers. The patient was located by SAR and transferred to BCAS VIR LAND Campbell River SAR members responded for an injured hiker near Laura Creek Campground outside of Holberg. The patient was rescued and transferred to BCAS. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded for a missing elderly subject in Nanaimo. RCMP stood down SAR as the subject was located by BCAS. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded for lost hikers on Crown Mountain, North Vancouver. The team was successful in locating the subjects and escorting them out of area. CTL Shuswap Rescue 1 members responded to assist with a subject with a medical condition, at Turtle Bay on Mara Lake. The subject was successfully brought out and passed to BCAS for transport to hospital. SWE LAND Squamish and 1 Lions Bay SAR member responded to rescue a subject who had fallen from a highway bridge about 100' near the Furry Creek Golf Club. When the SAR team arrived on scene, Britannia Beach Fire Rescue had performed the rescue and had turned the patient over BCAS. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker on Blackcomb Mountain.Subject retrieved using a helicopter and transferred to medical clinic. SWE North Shore Rescue members responded to search for someone who had fallen into the Capilano River. SAR stood down as no evidence of a subject was found. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR responded for an injured hiker in Strathcona Park near Mount Washington. Subject was located by SAR and transferred to BCAS. SWE LAND Squamish SAR responded to a hiker suffering an allergic reaction to wasp stings on Shannon Basin Trail. Gondola staff transferred the patient to BCAS. CTL CTL Penticton and 5 Naramata Fire responded to a missing sail boat on Okanagan Lake. Subject and sailboat was located anchored to shore due to weather Shuswap Rescue 1 members responded to Hungry Cove on Shuswap Lake for a subject with a broken leg. The patient was passed to BCAS and transported to hospital :59 CTL LAND COSAR members responded to assist with a

4 missing hiker in the Lake Country area. SAR was stood down after the subject was located in good condition : : : : : : : : : : : : SEA LAND members of Sparwood SAR responded to rescue an injured quad rider in the Race Horse Pass near the Alberta Border. The patient was rescued by a local Conservation Officer and SAR was stood down. CTL LAND Hope SAR and 11 Chilliwack SAR members responded to assist with an injured hiker near Needle Point in Hope. The subject was located and transferred to BCAS. CTL LAND Penticton SAR members responded to assist with an injured worker at the top of Apex Mountain. The team located and transported the subject to hospital. SEA LAND Revelstoke SAR members responded to assist with an injured mountain biker on Boulder Mountain. SAR was stood down on scene as subject was already in BCAS care. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to a distressed hiker at the Daisy Lake Trail head. SAR was stood down when the subject was able to self rescue before SAR arrived. SWE LAND members of Squamish SAR responded to an In Reach SOS activation on Tantalus Mt. SAR was stood down after it was determinded that the activation was made in error and SAR was not required. SWE LAND Pemberton SAR members responded to a PLB activation in Gold Bridge/ Lillooet. SAR stood down when JRCC was able to assist by sending a helicopter to rescue the subjects. SWE LAND Kent Harrison SAR responded to a child in cardiac arrest due to a swimming incident at 20 Mile Bay in Harrison. SAR was stood down as RCMP and BCAS along with a medi-vac were on scene. SEA LAND Columbia SAR responded for a PLB activation near Catamount Glacier. The PLB activation was cancelled. After consultation between SAR and RCMP, it was decided that SAR would wait for further activations. SWE LAND Coquitlam SAR memebers responded to locate a missing hiker on Eagle Ridge. The SAR extricated the subject using HETS and was handed over to RCMP. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to assist in locating 3 hikers last seen in the Indian Arm area. SAR was stood down after the subjects were located on a FSR by some 4x4 enthusiasts SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to assist with an injured hiker on Inter-River Trail. The Fire department took over the incident so SAR was stood down. SEA LAND Golden SAR members responded to assist with an injured hiker, that has sustained a knee injury, near Applebee Camp Ground, near Spillimacheen. The team located and brought the subject to the

VIR AIR members of Ladysmith SAR and 10 Thetis Island First Responders responded to a plane crash with 4 persons on board on Hudson Island SW or Thetis Island. 2 subjects were brought to Victoria General hospital and 2 were water taxied to Chemainus. NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to assist in searching for a missing person last seen at their residence in Prince George. RCMP stood SAR down pending further information. NEA LAND Chetwynd SAR members and 1 Mackenzie SAR member responded to assist with an injured ATV rider that may have sustained injuries to the chest and shoulder. SAR was stood down when the subject was able to drive himself to the hospital. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR responded assist with locating an intoxicated person on Kwai lake Trail. Local Rangers located the subject and sent the subject in the correct direction. SAR was stood down. CTL 4 4 Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to investigate a flare sighting on Okanagan Lake. Crews were stood down after nothing was located. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR responded to assist in locating 2 overdue climbers at Mt Slesse, Chilliwack. SAR was stood down after subjects were able to self rescue ELT ELT - 17

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Aug 27 - Sep BODY RECOVERY On 28 August 2018, an incident was opened for Fernie SAR to recover a body in the Elk Valley area. On 29 August 2018, an incident was opened for South Cariboo SAR to recover a body in the 100 Mile House area. On Aug , an incident was opened for Merritt Fire to recover a body in the Merritt area. INTERFACE FIRES On 29 Aug 18, an incident was generated in response to wildland interface fires burning in the province which resulted in the opening of a reception centre in the Community of Lheudku T enneh within the Fraser Fort George Regional District, in support of evacuees from the wildfires. MISCELLANEOUS: On 30 Aug 2018, an incident was opened for Squamish SAR to rescue a dog suffering from seizures on the Chief Mountain in Squamish.
