2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 29 JAN 18 TO 4 FEB 18 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 29 00: : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS VIR LAND Arrowsmith and 8 Nanaimo SAR members responded to rescue occupants of a vehicle 60 ft down an embankment following a road wash-out in Lantzville. The driver was successfully rescued from the vehicle. SWE LAND Central Fraser Valley (CFV) SAR members responded following a report of screams for help at or near Clayburn Creek. After a search of the surrounding area, with no sign of anyone in distress, SAR was stood down by the RCMP. NEA LAND members of South Cariboo SAR responded following an In-Reach beacon activation in the Mt. Elsie area. SAR stood down when the owners of the device contacted InReach to report they were safe. SWE SWE INLAND WATER INLAND WATER North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue a kayaker in distress on the Capilano River. The kayaker was located deceased by the SAR team and was passed to the Coroner Chilliwack SAR members responded to assist RCMP who reported that a camper had washed away at the Peg Leg on the Fraser River. There was a dead dog at the site so RCMP believe there may be a person with the camper. The camper was located and brought back to shore, with no-one located inside and SAR stood down. NWE LAND Kitimat SAR members responded to search for 2 overdue males on Mount Clague. SAR members responded to the hall and were stood down following a report that the father of one of the 2 subjects made contact with them and found that they were safe at a cabin in the area. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to an avalanche involving a snowmobiler in the Clemina Creek Recreation area, near Valemount. The family was performing CPR on the subject on the SAR team's arrival, and this was continued until the subject was passed to BCAS at the airport and was transported to the hospital. The final condition of subject was unknown. SWE LAND Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to assist with a missing despondent male in the Davis Bay area of Sechelt. SAR located the subject deceased and assisted with the body recover for the Coroner. SWE LAND Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to search for a missing hiker near the Loon Lake Research Centre in Maple Ridge. The male was located cold but otherwise in good condition and was escorted out of the area by the SAR members. CTL LAND Shuswap SAR members responded to assist 2 stranded snowmobilers at the end of the Crow Foot Mountain Snowmobile Area near Anglemont. The local snowmobile club located the subjects in good condition and SAR was stood down.

3 31 16: : : : : : : : : : : : SWE LAND Kent Harrison SAR members responded to a assist RCMP who were dealing with a male threatening to jump off the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge. The subject did not jump from the bridge and SAR was stood down. VIR LAND Metchosin SAR members responded to search for a missing male on Mt. Finlayson. SAR located the subject, who was hypothermic and disoriented and was safely escorted from the area to a waiting BCAS crew. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue an injured male on Dog Mountain. Upon arrival, it was ascertained that there were two subjects. The SAR members assisted in transporting both of them to a waiting BCAS crew for additional treatment and transport to the hospital. SEA LAND Nelson SAR members responded to search for a man not seen since January 13, who was believed to be up the Rover Creek FSR. The subject was located deceased and was passed to the Coroner. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to search for two overdue snowmobilers at the Allan Creek snowmobile site. The team located and escorted the 2 sledders out of the area. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for a lost hiker on the BCMC Trail in Grouse Mountain. The subject was retrieved by SAR in good condition and was transferred to the Grouse Mountain Chalet. SEA LAND Kimberley SAR members and 4 Cranbrook SAR members responded to rescue an injured female near Highway 95A. The subject was rescued suffering an ankle injury and was transferred to BCAS. SEA LAND members of Sparwood SAR and 1 Elkford SAR member responded following an In-Reach beacon activation by helicopter. They spotted the male subject from the heli and sent in SAR members on skis, to his location. The subject was rescued in good condition. SEA LAND Revelstoke SAR member responded to rescue 5 missing sledders on Boulder Mountain. SAR was stood down when the subjects self rescued. CTL LAND Shuswap and 1 Revelstoke SAR members responded to assist a snowmobiler that became stuck near Blue Lake. The subject was located suffering hypothermia and was brought out by SAR and transferred to BCAS. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to search for a youth that may have fallen into Millstone Creek at Bowen Park, near Nanaimo. SAR was stood down while mustering, when the RCMP found the subject at the side of the creek, alive and well. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR members responded to search for two lost snowmobilers 10 kms up Robins Range Road, near Scuitto Lake. SAR was stood down when the RCMP retrieved the subjects, cold but in good condition and transferred them to BCAS.

4 03 18: : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE CTL LAND CORD SAR members responded to search for two people who became lost while cross country skiing on Callas Creek FSR. Both subjects were located and brought out safely by SAR. VIR LAND Saltspring Island SAR members responded to search for a missing hiker on Mount Maxwell. The subject was located in good condition at Centennial Park, by the RCMP and SAR was stood down. CTL LAND Vernon SAR members responded to search for 3 missing snow bikers near Vernon. SAR was stood down when the subjects managed to walk out on their own without injury. SEA LAND Penticton SAR, 13 Oliver/Osoyoos SAR and 3 Princeton SAR members responded to locate 2 snowmobilers in the Nickleplate Lake area near Penticton. Both subjects were located and brought out safely. CTL LAND Kelowna SAR and 7 Vernon SAR responded to rescue a snowmobiler who was stuck on Terrace Mountain FSR near Fintry Landing. The subject was retrieved in good condition ELT ELT - 24

5 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Jan Feb, 2018 DANGEROUS GOODS On 01 Feb 2018, the container ship MOL Prestige went adrift approximately 200 nautical miles SW of Haida Gwaii following a fire in the engine room. No pollutants were released and the vessel was not in immediate risk of drifting ashore. The incident was raised to Code 2 (urgent status) by the Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) to ensure broader awareness through enhanced notification protocols. LANDSLIDE On 29 Jan 2018, the Nanaimo Regional District was issued a task number for a washout on Rumming Road near Lantzville, as a result of heavy rains, which also affected stability of a nearby 60 foot embankment. A Geo-Tech assessment was conducted by MOTI and one home was deemed unsafe for occupancy. FLOODING On 29 Jan 2018, the Cowichan Valley Regional District activated their EOC at a Level 1 due to heavy rains resulting in flooding on the Koksilah, Cowichan and Chemainus Rivers. On 29 Jan 2018, the Fraser Valley Regional District s EPC responded to a flooding incident in the Ridgeview Road area of Dewdney. A creek was compromised and breached due to heavy rains and 3 properties were impacted. On 30 Jan 2018, Burnett Creek changed course resulting in a tactical evacuation of three homes on East Porpoise Bay Road in Sechelt District. A blocked culvert caused water to back up and form a lake that began to compromise the road. Pumps were used to reduce the risk until crews were brought in to clear the culvert. On 01 Feb 2018, the East Kootenay Regional District requested a task number to conduct a fly over to determine if a creek leading into a reservoir was obstructed, which would pose a potential risk of flooding and landslide. MISCELLANEOUS On 30 Jan 2018, the New Hazleton Fire Department (FD) responded to assist BC Ambulance Service to conduct a confined space assessment in order to access a collapsed patient at a property in the Hazleton area. The FD was cancelled before reaching the site, by the RCMP, who advised the subject was found deceased and they were awaiting the Coroner. On 01 Feb 2018, BCAS requested a task number for the Fraser Lake Fire Department to assist by conducting a confined space assessment before they can access a patient in a concrete water shed at Stella Road and Highway 16.
