2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 22 AUG 16 TO 28 AUG 16 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 22 11: : : : : : : UPDATE 23 13: : : : : : REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS VIR LAND 7 7 Nanaimo SAR responded to RCMP request for a dropped 911 call in the Whisky Lake area in Nanaimo. SAR was stood down after nothing was found. SWE LAND Lions Bay SAR and 2 North Shore Rescue members responded to two lost hikers at the Harvey Drainage in Lions Bay. The subjects were extracted using HETS and transported to their vehicle in good condition. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to an injured hiker up Garibaldi Lake trail. The subject was rescued and transported into the care of BCAS in good condition RCM SAR responded to a 22 year old distressed female on a houseboat that is having a panic attack. The subject was rescued and transported into the care of BCAS. 3 3 Penticton Fire Dept Marine Rescue responded to a possible missing person in Skaha Lake. It turned out to be a sign in the water that headlights were reflecting off of, and Penticton Fire was stood SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for a missing 12-year-old in central Chilliwack. The missing child was located safely near his home. SWE LAND 4 4 Chilliwack SAR members responded to new information regarding the search for the missing male in the Munday Peak area on 23 Aug. They were stood down again after nothing was found. SEA LAND members of Golden SAR responded to rescue an 86 y/o male with head injuries on Terminator Peak. SAR passed off the unconscious patient to BCAS, where he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. NEA Prince George SAR members responded to two people in the river after they overturned their canoe. The subjects self rescued and SAR was stood VIR LAND Westcoast Inland SAR members responded to a missing 18 y/o at the Wickaninnish Beach area. The young man was found by RCMP in good condition. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to a lost hiker up Panorama Ridge. The hiker made his way out of the area in good condition. LAND ELT 2 2 PEP Air members responded to JRCC request for an ELT sounding at the Kelowna Airport. It was quickly discovered that the ELT in question was actually triggered and was in one of the responding member's planes. SEA Golden SAR responded to RCMP request for a flipped river raft in the Kicking Horse River. The subject was able to self rescue, however, SAR flew subject out to BCAS due to some internal and

Subject was located and helied out by SAR and treated for a broken wrist. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to RCMP request to search for two lost hikers. SAR contacted the subjects who advised they were able to find a route down by themselves. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for three missing hikers on Cypress Mountain. They were located uninjured and turned over to RCMP. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist with an injured mountain biker at Lucille Lake. SAR was stood down as BCAS determined that they would be able to access patient. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to RCMP request for assistance locating a missing male near the Vedder bridge. SAR stood down as RCMP located subject. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist with a family of four that was having problems getting down from the Sea-to-Sky gondola. Family was located and escorted out by SAR. SWE LAND Surrey SAR and 1 CFV responded to search for a missing despondent male in the South Surrey area. The search was suspended pending further RCMP investigation. SWE 4 4 Mission SAR members responded to assist RCMP in regards to a possible boater in distress in Stave Lake. SAR conducted a sweep of the lake and did not find anything Penticton SAR members responded to RCMP to search for a missing 32 y/o male who wandered away from his residence on 03 Aug and is believed to have headed in the direction of Lake Okanagan and the Lower Bench Road area of Penticton. After conducting a search along the cliffs edge by boat, SAR was stood down pending further investigation. LAND Penticton SAR members responded to an injured hiker near Crawford Falls. Patient was transported by SAR using HETS and handed off to BCAS Naramata Fire Dept members responded to rescue 4 boaters in distress on Lake Okanagan. Fire was stood down after subjects were picked up by a passing boat. VIR LAND Campbell River SAR responded to search for an overdue hiker in the Karst Creek area. Subject was located in good condition in his camper. NEA LAND 3 3 West Chilcoltin SAR, an RCMP member and a photographer flew into Tatla Lake to take aerial photos of crevasse and surrounding area where the subject is believed to be : Kelowna Fire responded to a swimmer in distress in Okanagan Lake. The subject was able to self rescue and was assisted to shore and then passed to RCMP :43 SWE Whistler SAR was requested by BCAS for an

4 injured cliff jumper in Green Lake. SAR was stood down after subject was rescued by a passing boat. Subject was brought to shore and passed to BCAS : : : : : : : ; : : : : : : LAND COSAR and 17 Penticton SAR members responded for an injured horseback rider in Peachland. Subject was extracted by HETS and transferred to BCAS. SEA LAND Nelson SAR responded to an injured cyclist 1km up a logging road near Kokanee Glacier Park. SAR was able package and bring the subject down off the hill. SEA LAND Fernie SAR members responded to 3 climbers stranded on a small ledge at Fernie Alpine Resort. SAR was able to extract subject via HETS. NEA LAND Nechako Valley and Prince George SAR members responded to RCMP request for a Spot Beacon in the Tenakohi Peak area. SAR was stood down when it was determined that the spot beacon had been accidentally activated Kelowna Fire Marine Rescue unit members responded for a potential jumper from the WR. Bennett bridge. Fire was stood down after RCMP were able to retrieve subject without incident. NWE LAND Bulkley Valley SAR responded to a group of missing hikers near the top of a mountain at the end of Kitwancool FSR. SAR was stood down pending further information from the RCMP. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to RCMP request to search for two lost hikes on Panorama Ridge. Subjects walked themselves out and met with RCMP Shuswap Rescue 1 responded to RCMP request to rescue an injured subject on a houseboat in Hungry Cove. Subject retrieved and passed to BCAS for care. SWE LAND Squamish SAR responded to RCMP request to search for 2 lost hikers on the Squamish Chief. Subjects were escorted out by SAR and passed to RCMP SEA LAND Fernie SAR responded to RCMP request to search for 2 lost bikers in the Lower Kush. Subjects were located in good condition and escorted out by SAR. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue responded to RCMP request to search for 5 missing hikers in Lynn Canyon Park. Subjects were located in good condition and escorted out by SAR Kelowna Fire members and 3 CORD SAR members responded to a person who jumped off the William Bennet Bridge and did not resurface. SAR was stood down as witnesses reported the subject on shore. SWE LAND Hope SAR & 10 Chilliwack SAR members responded to a hiker that fell and suffered unknown injuries on the Yak Peak Trail. SAR was able to long-line subject out and pass to BCAS Kelowna Fire members responded to 2 bridge jumpers on Okanagan Lake. The team was

5 27 15: : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE cancelled while en route. No further details available. SWE LAND Sunshine Coast SAR responded to an 80 year old male suffering cardiac issues. SAR was stood prior to responding after Fire was able to access subject. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR responded to BCAS request to rescue an 75 year old male who had fallen in Strathcona Park near Helen MacKenzie Lake. Subject was located and guided out by SAR members. He was uninjured but confused and had broken his glasses in the fall. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded for a hiker with an ankle injury on the Garibaldi Lake Trail. Hiker was airlifted out by SAR and passed to BCAS Kelowna Fire Marine Unit members responded for a heavily listing sailboat in distress, near Bear Creek Park. RCMP were first on scene to the distressed boaters. SWE LAND NSR members responded to locate 3 lost hikers on the SE face of Crown Mountain. Subjects were located uninjured and left with RCMP. SWE LAND Whistler SAR member responded for 2 overdue hikers in the Garibaldi Park area. Subjects were rescued by RCMP and SAR stood Okanagan Falls and 3 Penticton Marine Rescue members responded to an overturned catamaran on Skaha Lake. Subject was rescued uninjured a brought to shore. SWE LAND NSR members responded for 2 lost hikers on Mount Seymour. SAR was able to successfully get the subjects out of the backcountry via helicopter ELT ELT - 22

Subject was located in town and SAR was stood SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded for a missing 15 year old autistic boy in the Alice Lake area. Subject located and transferred to RCMP. SWE AIR ELT 2 2 PEP Air members responded to an ELT sounding in the Chilliwack area. PEP Air members were able to determine that the ELT was activated in a storage garage in an industrial area of Chilliwack. PEP Air members entered the storage building and the signal stopped. After searching with negative results and no further activations, PEP Air stood NEA LAND West Chilcotin SAR members responded to RCMP request for 2 missing mushroom pickers near Cowboy Lake. SAR was stood down while mustering after the subjects walked out on their own. LAND Kamloops SAR members and 3 Logan Lake SAR members responded for a hunter who fell 15 feet from a tree stand. The BCAS air ambulance was able to land on scene and SAR was stood SEA LAND South Columbia SAR and 4 Castlegar SAR members responded for an injured mountain biker up the 7 Summits Trail. Subject was brought out and passed to BCAS for transport to hospital. VIR Cowichan Valley SAR responded to a suspected drowning on Cowichan Lake. After an inital search, SAR was suspended due to darkness and high winds. RCMP then reactivated SAR who were able to locate subject who was then handed over to RCMP dive team. LAND Kamloops SAR responded to 2 lost hikers in Roche Lake area. SAR was stood down after the subjects were located safe and sound. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR member responded to an overdue hiker on Mount McKinney in Robson Campground. SAR was stood down by RCMP when the subject returned on her own ELT ELT - 23

7 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT 22 28, AUG 2016 BODY RECOVERY On 22 Aug 16, Penticton SAR responded for a Body Recovery for a deceased quad rider on a bike trail in the Summerland Area. On 23 Aug 16, a task number was created for INAC for the 2016 Fire Season. URBAN INTERFACE FIRE On 23 Aug 16, The INAC fire season task was provided to the Village of Chase to provide assistance to the Neskonlith Band with a fire on first nations land. On 25 Aug 16, The Cowichan Valley Regional District activated their EOC to support response to a wildfire burning 2.5 km north of Bamberton (V60440), on both sides of Highway 1. No structures or values were immediately threatened. On 27 Aug 16, the City of Vernon activated their EOC in response to an interface fire burning on Predator Ridge.
