2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 5 SEP 16 TO 11 SEP 16 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 05 12: : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS SEA LAND 7 7 Columbia Valley SAR members responded to assist with a para glider that was hung up on a mountain near Fairmont. Nothing was located and the search was suspended pending further information. NEA LAND Central Cariboo SAR members responded to rescue an injured male that fell from a rope swing down a 20 foot embankment in the Likely area. The patient was assisted up the embankment and then passed to BCAS for medical attention. CTL LAND Penticton SAR members responded to assist with an injured quad rider near the Big Meadow Lake area of Naramata. The patient was rescued and handed off to BCAS. NEA LAND Central Cariboo SAR members responded to rescue an injured bike rider on Fox Mountain Rd in the Williams Lake area. The patient suffered a leg injury and was carried out by stretcher to a waiting BCAS crew. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue a hiker with a leg injury in Brandywine Provincial Park. The patient was rescued via rope rescue and was passed to BCAS. SWE LAND 6 6 North Shore Rescue members responded to locate and assist an intoxicated female that had fallen off a cliff at or near a UBC building. The SAR team was stood down by the police as the Fire Department responded. CTL LAND Vernon SAR members responded to a party location in Vernon where some teens required medical assistance from an overdose. The SAR team was stood down while mustering as BCAS was able to manage the situation without the assistance of SAR. NEA LAND West Chilcotin SAR and Central Cariboo SAR members responded to search for a missing mushroom picker in the Cowboy Lake area, near Anahim Lake. The subject was located alive suffering a sprained ankle. NWE Terrace SAR members responded following reports of a subject in the water underneath the "Old Bridge" in the Skeena River. SAR members discovered an object in the water, not a person. VIR LAND 3 3 Campbell River SAR members were called upon to provide HETS rescue to assist Parks Canada with an injured hiker on the West Coast Trail about 70 km from Port Renfrew. After discussing the situation with Parks Canada, 442 squadron was tasked and Campbell River SAR was stood down. SEA Cranbrook SAR members responded to assist a man who became ill while on a canoe trip in the Bull River Area. The team was able to land nearby and pick up the subject who was brought back to the airport and turned over to BCAS for transport to the

3 07 21: : : : : : : : : : : : hospital. NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to search for an overdue mushroom picker in the Giscome area. SAR was stood down when the subject was located by an RCMP dog handler. SWE LAND Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to search for a missing 56 year old female in the area of 240th Street and Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge. The female was located deceased by a member of the public, and the Fire Department assisted the Coroner with the body. NWE LAND Fort St. James SAR members responded to search for a missing female in the North Road area. The RCMP located the subject and SAR was stood down. CTL LAND 7 7 Kamloops SAR members responded to following reports of a hang glider crash at Highway 5 and Chief Louis Way. The SAR team was stood down as nothing was located. SWE LAND SAR members from Sunshine Coast, Central Fraser Valley, Penticton, Mission, Salt Spring Island and Campbell River responded to search for 2 missing hikers near Chapman Creek on the Sunshine Coast. The SAR teams were able to locate both of the subjects and escort them from the area. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to search for a despondent male in the Roy Morrison Park area. The SAR team was responding when they were stood down as the subject returned home on his own. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for a missing hiker on Mount Slesse. The team was able to successfully locate and escort the hiker from the area. SEA LAND Cranbrook SAR members responded to rescue an injured hunter near Waldo Gold Creek Road. The SAR team was stood down as BCAS managed to reach the patient without SAR assistance. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to assist an injured dirt biker on the Vedder Mountain FSR. The SAR team flew the patient to the Chilliwack Airport where he was transferred to BCAS. SWE LAND Coquitlam SAR members responded to search for a missing elderly female in the area of the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course. The SAR team was stood down when the subject was located eating dinner in a nearby restaurant. CTL Lake Country Marine Rescue and 7 Vernon SAR members responded to rescue a Seadoo rider in distress on Kalamalka Lake near Crystal Waters. The subject was located and towed back to shore where they were met by family members. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for a group of 9 missing hikers on the Pearce Trail. SAR located the group with an injured member hiking out and assisted them out to trail head where they were met by the RCMP SWE Kent Harrison, 13 Chilliwack, and 5 Hope SAR

4 members responded to search for a missing boater on the Fraser River. The boater was located in good condition on a gravel bar near Hope : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to assist BCAS with a motorcyclist suffering a leg injury near the Darwin Bridge. The subject was rescued and transferred to BCAS. NEA NEA NWE Prince George SAR members responded to assist 4 subjects on a boat, stranded on a sand bar, in the Fraser River near the Cottonwood Boat Launch. The subjects were able to free themselves and SAR was stood down Prince George SAR members responded to assist a male in distress in the Nechako River. The subject was rescued by bystanders and passed off to RCMP and BCAS Terrace SAR members responded to rescue 4 people hanging onto an overturned canoe in the Skeena River. The SAR team was stood down when the RCMP assisted the subjects. NWE LAND Terrace SAR member responded to assist with a missing or lost mushroom picker near the Terrace Airport. SAR was stood down when the RCMP located the subject on the highway ELT ELT - 25

5 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT SEPT 5 11 DANGEROUS GOODS On 5 Sept 16, a tanker truck rolled over near the community of Oyster River resulting in a spill of diesel. The Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) raised the incident to Code 2 (urgent status) due to the location of the spill which had the potential of impacting the Black Creek Wetlands. EARTHQUAKE On 10 Sept 16, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake occurred near Penticton BC. The earthquake was felt in several Okanagan area communities. No damage was reported. EVIDENCE SEARCH On 11 Sept 16, an evidence search was conducted on St Mark s Mountain in West Vancouver. Nothing of interest was located. LANDSLIDE On 6 Sept 16, a task was requested for a potential landslide that occurred in the Mount Currie area. The task was used to conduct an air assessment of the landslide site. No persons or property were expected to be impacted by the incident.
