2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 7 AUG 17 TO 13 AUG 17 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 07 09: : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS VIR LAND Alberni Valley SAR and 5 Campbell River SAR members responded to investigate a SPOT beacon activation, north of Great Central Lake near Port Alberni. HETS was used to fly the injured subject out for hand-over to BCAS. SWE Mission SAR and 9 CFV SAR members along with RCMP Marine members responded to search for a bridge jumper off the Mission bridge in the Fraser River. RCMP Marine members found personal items suspected to belong to the subject in the water and SAR was stood down, pending new information. SEA AIR 1 1 Member of Fernie SAR responded to a possible small plane crash at the Morrissey Junction in Fernie. RCMP determined the witness had seen a routine landing on a local grass strip and SAR was stood down. VIR LAND Comox Valley SAR members responded to rescue an injured mountain biker on the Trent Canyon Mountain Bike Trail near Cumberland. SAR rescued the subject, who sustained a knee injury and transferred her out to a waiting ambulance. VIR LAND Powell River SAR members responded to locate two missing 60 year old campers from the Inland Lake Campsite near Powell River. The couple was found at a campsite, unaware that they were considered missing. NWE LAND Terrace SAR members responded to rescue a kayaker who flipped his kayak and was stranded on shore of Kitsumkalum River near Terrace. The subject was rescued and then passed off to BCAS West Kelowna Fire Rescue Marine Unit members responded to rescue three boaters in distress on Okanagan Lake, off of Green Bay, West Kelowna. The area was searched with nothing found. SAR team was stood down. SWE AIR ELT 2 2 PEP Air members responded to JRCC request to locate an ELT sounding at Boundary Bay Airport. PEP Air members located the ELT in an aircraft in a hangar. ELT sounded due to a defective switch. SEA Kimberley and 1 Cranbrook SAR members responded to rescue 13 kayakers (5 who were children) on the Kootenay River near Wasa Junction. The team rescued 15 subjects, which included two convergent rescuers who hiked in to help. SWE LAND Chilliwack SAR Members responded to locate a missing 8 year old, last seen at Prospera Place in Chilliwack. The child returned safely home on his own and SAR was stood down RCM SAR Shuswap Rescue 1 responded to rescue two boats that collided 600 metres off of Copper Island near Sorrento. The subjects were rescued by a passer by and RCM SAR were stood

3 8 23: : : : : : : : : : : : down. VIR LAND PEMO SAR members and 1 Metchosin SAR members responded to locate a missing 30 year old male with developmental disabilities. The missing male was found in the care of BCAS and SAR was stood down. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to rescue a climber with a broken leg on Mt Robson. The team brought the injured patient out, where they were handed off to BCAS for care RCM SAR Shuswap Rescue 1 responded for a choking 2 year old child at the Shark Shack in the Cinnemousun Narrows. When RCM arrived on scene, the child was breathing on her own and was handed off to BCAS for care. LAND Princeton and 1 Keremeos SAR members responded to rescue a group of dehydrated hikers on a 4x4 road near Cathedral Lake, Keremeos. SAR located the subjects and transferred them to BCAS. LAND Merritt SAR responded to locate a missing 16 year old mountain biker off Midday Valley Road near Merritt. SAR was able to locate the missing mountain biker in good condition. SWE LAND Pemberton SAR members responded to search for a missing male in the Jaffray Lakes area. It was determined that the subject had hitchhiked to Lillooet. NWE LAND 2 2 Stewart SAR responded to rescue a kayaker from Whitehorse, in the south side of the Spatsizi Wilderness Reserve area who activated their spot beacon. The spot beacon was turned off prior to SAR departure and SAR was stood down Shuswap SAR members responded to rescue a 70 year old with a hip injury at the docks at Seymour Arm, near Sicamous. SAR packaged the subject and handed her off to BCAS. NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to an SOS that was set off on a spot device on Mount Robson. The subject sent an "OK" message, after accidentally activating the spot beacon and SAR was stood down. SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to an ATV roll over up an access road near Glacier Lane in Whistler. Blackcombe Aviation was able to assist BCAS and SAR was stood down. LAND Penticton SAR responded to an injured female rock climber on Skaha Bluffs in Penticton. Vernon SAR was able to winch the subject out and deliver her to the hospital. LAND Vernon SAR responded to rescue an injured hiker on the Blue Nose Trail in Lavington. The injured hiker was able to walk out of the area with the help of BCAS. LAND Vernon SAR members responded to rescue an injured paraglider at Cooper's Launch near Lumby. SAR lifted the subject 50' up a slope to a waiting BC Air Ambulance for transport to hospital :07 SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to

4 locate a missing male in the Lynne Creek Area of North Vancouver. SAR was stood down by RCMP, pending further information : : : : : : : : : : : : SWE LAND Whistler SAR members responded to rescue an injured female at One Duck Lake near Whistler. The subject was successfully brought out and passed to Whistler Emergency Clinic for care. LAND Princeton SAR members responded to rescue a lost trail runner in Manning Park near Princeton. The subject was rescued by SAR and passed to RCMP for debriefing. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue responded to rescue two lost hikers in the Crown Mountain area in North Vancouver. SAR rescued the two lost hikers in good condition Lillooet Rescue members responded to rescue occupants of a capsized vessel on Pavillion Lake. The subject suffered a stroke. He was taken off the vessel and transported to hospital via helicopter Shuswap Rescue One members responded to rescue an injured male that jumped from a houseboat, landing on another boat. The subject was transported to hospital by Shuswap Rescue One. LAND Princeton SAR Members responded to rescue a distance runner in medical distress from Manning Park, near Princeton. SAR was stood down when BCAS made contact with the subject. VIR LAND Juan de Fuca SAR members discovered an injured hiker at Mystic Beach, while they were training. The subject was packaged and brought to safety and handed over to BC Ambulance. SWE Kent Harrison SAR members responded to rescue a 60 year old male with a injured hip. The subject was rescued from the creek by SAR and passed to BCAS for treatment. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to locate a missing male near Divers Lake in Nanaimo. The subject was located, 5 blocks from the his residence. 7 3 Naramata and 4 Penticton Fire Department members responded to rescue a boater in distress on Okanagan Lake. The crews were stood down when they were unable to locate any vessel needing assistance. 3 3 Kelowna Fire Marine unit members responded to rescue a possible occupant from a drifting paddleboard on Okanagan Lake. SAR did not find a missing paddler and RCMP stood SAR down, pending further info. SWE LAND Pemberton SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker in Joffre Lakes of Pemberton. The subject was handed off to BCAS with a fractured arm and a head injury. NEA LAND Quesnel SAR members responded to search for a missing 8 year old in West Quesnel. The eight year old female was located safely, at a friends place :53 SWE LAND Pemberton SAR members responded to locate

5 two lost bikers in the Pemberton Creek Waterfall area. The bikers were located in a forest, safe and were turned over to police : : : : : : : : UPDATE WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE SWE LAND Squamish SAR responded to locate five lost heli hikers on Serratus Glacier. SAR was stood down when it was learned that the hikers successfully made their own way out. LAND INCIDENT WAS SKIPPED IN THE SYSTEM. NEA North Peace SAR members responded to locate two overdue tubers in the area of Motney to Cecil Lake Campground. The subjects walked out on their own and RCMP stood SAR down. LAND Princeton, Keremeos, Oliver/Osoyoos SAR and Erris Fire Department members responded to locate a missing female with possible allergic reaction in the Princeton Summerland Road area. The subject was located and returned to family. NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to locate a potential bridge jumper. RCMP cancelled the search and stood down the SAR team. SEA Kaslo SAR responded to locate two missing boaters that fell out of their boat. RCMP advised SAR that the boaters were located in good condition and no further action was necessary Peachland FD members responded to rescue boaters in distress on Okanagan Lake. The team was stood down when a passing boater rescued the male in the water and a seadoo towed the boat to shore Peachland FD members responded to rescue the crew of a sailboat in distress on Okanagan Lake near Rattlesnake Island. The team was able to rescue the subjects and tow their boat back to shore. VIR LAND Juan de Fuca SAR members responded to search for three missing hikers in East Sooke Park. SAR was stood down by RCMP prior to activating after the hikers walked out on their own. SEA On July 28, 7 Cranbrook and 10 Kimberley SAR members responded to locate a female who was last seen struggling, in the water at Moyie Falls. SAR was stood down when nothing found ELT ELT - 8

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT Aug 07-13, 2017 DANGEROUS GOODS - CODE 2 On 09 August, a semi and a car were involved in a MVI in Vanderhoof in which there were 4 fatalities. A spill of diesel leaked out onto the roadway and into a nearby creek. The incident resulted in the highway being closed for several hours. The incident was raised to Code 2 (urgent status) by the Ministry of Environment Response Officer due to potential for heightened political and media attention. On 11 August, a transport truck flipped over on the highway near Donald BC. Reports were that some unknown red chemical was spilling out from the truck and into the roadway.. Police, Fire and Ambulance as well a chemical emergency response team responded and it was determined the material was paint. Incident was raised to a Code 2 (urgent status) by MOE due to potential for heightened political and media attention. INTERFACE FIRE On 08 August, a task number was generated for the 2017 Fire Season for INAC SEA Region for monitoring purposes of wildland interface fires which may affect INAC communities in the region. On 08 August an incident was generated to support response to the Tobacco Plains First Nations in regards to the Tobacco Plains Fire N11605 in the SEA region. On 09 August an incident was generated to support response to the McCormick Creek Fire (N51634) out of Salmo which resulted in Central Kootenay Regional District (CKRD) issuing evacuation alert. On 10 August an incident was generated to support response to the Patterson Creek Fire (K41657) out of Spallumcheen. A reception centre was opened to accept evacuees impacted by this wildland interface fire. On 12 August an incident was generated to support response to the Bishop Bluff wildland interface fire (C10830) out of the Bulkley Nechako Regional District (BNRD). On 12 August an incident was generated to support response to the Kokanee Creek wildland interface fire (N71691) out of the Central Kootenay Regional District. On 13 August an incident was generated to support response to the Canim Lake wildland interface fire (C41710) A tactical evacuation was ordered due to rapidly spreading fire in the area.
