2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 2 JUN 14 TO 8 JUN 14 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # : : : : : : : : PEP ELT/ # PEP LOCATED REGION INCIDENT #VICTIMS VOL ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS SWE LAND Central Fraser Valley SAR and 5 Mission SAR members responded to search for a missing 47 year old male from Cascade Falls in the Mission area. The subject was located cold and wet but otherwise in good condition. CTL LAND Penticton SAR members and the Naramata Fire Rescue unit responded to bring 2 injured subjects off a shale slope in the Summerland area. Following the rescue, subjects refused BCAS assistance and were subsequently taken into custody by the RCMP. SEA CTL members of Columbia Valley SAR and 23 convergent volunteers responded to search for a missing infant on Dutch Creek. The 1 year old child was separated from her parents who had taken her down the rapids in an inner-tube. The infant was located face up, in a life jacket, caught in a logjam. The infant was recovered, suffering hypothermia but alive, by SAR heli and was then transported to the Calgary Foothills Hospital by STARS Air Ambulance Kelowna Fire members responded to rescue a canoeist from the rocks in the Traders Cove area of Okanagan Lake. The canoeist, who had fallen out of his canoe and swam to shore was stranded under a cliff. A high angle rope rescue was conducted to retrieve the subject. VIR LAND Juan de Fuca SAR members responded to rescue 3 hikers that reported they were lost somewhere on Mount Manuel Quimper in the Sooke area. The three hikers were found unharmed. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to rescue a lost hiker on the Cable Bay Trail in Cedar. The hiker was located by a police dog and the SAR team was stood down. SEA LAND Creston SAR members, along with the Revelstoke HETS team responded to rescue an injured 13 year old boy from a shale cliff in Lister. Due to failing light conditions, the Revelstoke HETS team was unable to respond and the rescue was effected by 442 Squadron using the Cormorant helicopter. The young male was transported to Cranbrook Hospital suffering a compound fracture to his lower leg. CTL Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded following reports of a bridge jumper at the Bennett Bridge. The man was later reported to have been picked up by a passing boat, and Marine Rescue returned to base. SWE LAND 3 3 Squamish SAR members responded following initial reports of a missing female on Gondola Trail near Squamish. The team was stood down pending further RCMP investigation.

3 05 22: : : : : : : : : : SWE LAND 3 3 Squamish SAR members responded to investigate reports of a flare sighting on the Squamish River at Fisherman's Beach. The SAR team arrived on scene to find some youths had set off the flare, and there was no emergency. SEA LAND South Columbia SAR and 3 PEP Air members responded to search for a missing autistic male in or around the Salmo/Creston area. SAR and PEP Air were stood down after RCMP picked the subject up in good condition and brought him back to the hospital in Cranbrook for an assessment. SWE LAND Sunshine Coast SAR members responded to investigate calls for help along Field Road in Sechelt. After an extensive search with nothing found, SAR pending further information. NWE 4 4 Terrace SAR members were called out to rescue occupants of a vehicle that was submerged in a slough off Hwy 37 South. The Fire Department were able to make the rescue prior to SAR's arrival. NEA LAND North Peace SAR members were stood down while mustering to rescue an injured quad rider across the highway from Cameron Lake in the area of Hudsons Hope. BCAS were able to reach the patient without further assistance. NWE LAND Burns Lake SAR members responded to rescue an ATV rider that was injured and down a 40 foot embankment in the Trout Creek Road area of Burns Lake. Subject was turned over to BCAS in poor condition. SWE 8 8 Chilliwack SAR were called out to rescue potential occupants of a car that was in the Vedder River off of Lickman Road. RCMP stood down SAR after determining the owner was not in the vehicle. CTL LAND members of Penticton SAR's High Angle Rescue team responded to assist BCAS with a teenaged hiker who had suffered severe injuries after falling 45 feet down to the foot of the Naramata Falls. The subject was successfully brought up from the steep drop and was transferred to BCAS for transport to the hospital. SWE LAND members of Kamloops SAR responded to rescue an injured dirt biker in the Goose Lake area. SAR was stood down when ambulance crew was able to access subject. SWE LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue an injured climber on the third peak of The Chief. The subject was rescued using HETS and was turned over to BCAS. SWE Hope and Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue potential occupants from a car that was in Silver Hope Creek. No occupants were in the vehicle and it was removed from the river by a tow truck. SEA LAND Cranbrook SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker near the Loussier Hot Springs. SAR

4 07 18: : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE was stood down when BCAS was able to reach the subject without SAR assistance. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for a missing male on Grouse Mountain. SAT was stood down when the subject was located by the RCMP in a hostel in Vancouver. SWE LAND Central Fraser Valley SAR members responded to search for a possible missing person on Sumas Mountain. Hasty searches were conducted in the area but nothing was found and SAR was stood down pending further RCMP investigation. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members were called out to rescue an injured female at the Witchcraft Falls on Benson Mountain. SAR was stood down prior to their response as the incident was within the East Wellington Fire Department's area of jurisdiction. SWE LAND Mission SAR and 5 PEP Air members responded to search for 3 accident victims went missing while walking out after being in an MVI the previous night on the Sylvester FSR. The search was stood down when the subjects were located by the RCMP. CTL LAND Kamloops SAR members responded to rescue a 40 year old female in medical distress in the Lac La Jeune area. SAR was stood down prior to mobilizing as BCAS personnel were able to access the patient. VIR LAND members from North Cowichan and Ladysmith SAR responded along with Cowichan Lake and North Cowichan Fire Departments to rescue an injured mountain biker on Mount Provost in the Duncan area. 6 members of JDF SAR were stood down while en route, when the subject was immobilized and brought out on wheeled stretcher with high angle assist and was handed over to BCAS. VIR LAND Arrowsmith SAR members responded to search for a lost male in the Qualicum Beach area. SAR was stood down on scene when the subject was located in good condition by a neighbour. SWE LAND Chilliwack and 11 Kent Harrison SAR members responded following a report from a witness who thought they saw a paraglider chute on the front side of Mount Cheam. SAR was stood down after they searched the area but found no sign of anyone in distress. SWE LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for a missing hiker in the Capilano Watershed off The Lions. The subject was located safe, but cold and wet. The helicopter was unable to land in the area so SAR members hiked out with the subject to a logging road were they picked up by vehicles ELT ELT - 4

6 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT 2 8 June 2014 EVIDENCE SEARCH On 06 Jun 2014, 2 members of North Shore Rescue were called and consulted with the RCMP regarding an evidence search in the Hanes Valley. FLOODING On 05 Jun 2014, the Bonaparte River topped its bank and flooded part of Cache Creek threatening the town s public water well and infrastructure. The North Thompson Regional District was looking into further flood mitigation to supplement sandbagging efforts. MISCELLANEOUS On 04 Jun 2014, Lillooet Rescue members were called out to assist BCAS with an injured person that was down an embankment in behind Mile 0, in Lillooet. The subject was brought up the embankment with the use of ropes and was turned over to BCAS. On 05 Jun 2014, the occupants of a home on Windsor Avenue in Penticton were provided with overnight accommodations and meals when police evacuated their home after a home-made bomb was detonated in a neighboring property. The RCMP bomb disposal unit responded from the lower mainland to ensure that any further threat or risk to the public was removed.
