2 SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 3 JUL 17 TO 9 JUL 17 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 03 03: : : : : : : : : : : : : : EMBC REGION INCIDENT ELT/ #VICTIMS # EMBC VOL LOCATED ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to rescue 2 lost hikers on Fang Mountain. Both of the subjects were located, in good condition and were hiking out of the area. SEA LAND members from Creston, Nelson, Castlegar, Rossland, Grandforks and South Columbia SAR responded to search for a despondent elderly male in Trail. The male was located deceased and passed to the Coroner. LAND Hope SAR members responded to rescue a hiker with a dislocated shoulder on Sowaqua Forest Service Road in Hope. The SAR members rescued the patient and transferred him to an awaiting BCAS for transport to hospital. AIR 0ELT PEP Air members responded to locate an ELT sounding at the Pitt Meadows Airport. ELT was reported to be sounding in error. LAND Shuswap SAR member responded to locate two lost hikers along White Lake near Salmon Arm. The RCMP were able to make contact with the hikers and the SAR team was stood down. LAND North Shore Rescue responded to locate two missing hikers on Grouse Mountain near North Vancouver. The SAR members located the hikers and walked them out. LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded to rescue a fallen hiker on the Mount Brunswick Trail near Lions Bay. The SAR team was stood down while responding as the hiker found his way out and did not require a rescue. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to locate a five year old child in Cedar. SAR was stood down by the RCMP as the child was located Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to rescue two people near the lower falls in Golden Ears Park. The two people were not in distress and the SAR team returned to their base. LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to search for a missing 92 year old woman with Dementia. The lady was located by the RCMP in good condition and the SAR team was stood down Ridge Meadows and 3 Coquitlam SAR members responded to rescue a bridge jumper at the Pitt River Bridge. The subject was not located and the SAR team was stood down by the RCMP. VIR LAND Powell River SAR members responded to locate a disoriented female near Haslem Lake. The subject was located alive and well by SAR. LAND Coquitlam SAR members responded to locate two lost hikers in the Bunsen Lake area. The hikers were located alive and well by SAR. LAND Kent Harrison SAR members responded to rescue an elderly male experiencing shortness of breath. The patient was retrieved and transferred to

3 04 12: : : : : : : : : : : : : BCAS Advanced Life Support Personnel. NEA South Cariboo SAR and 4 PEP Air members responded to locate two missing campers in Mahood Lake Provincial Park. The subjects were located and picked up by the RCMP. SEA LAND Invermere SAR members responded to a report of flashing lights north of Temperance Peak near Windermere, BC. Task was concluded when no flashing lights were found and no missing persons reports filed. NWE Burns Lake SAR and 1 PEP AIR member responded to locate a male that planned to boat around the entire Nechako Reservoir at Ootsa Lake in his row boat. The male used his Onreach beacon to advise that he was in good condition and didn't require any rescue. LAND Lions Bay SAR and 4 North Shore Rescue members responded to locate two stranded hikers on a cliff on Mt. Harvey near Lions Bay. The hikers were retrieved by HETS in good condition. LAND Vernon SAR members responded to rescue the occupant of a tractor over an embankment. SAR responded to recover the subject who was deceased. SAR was stood down when BCAS took over the scene Pemberton SAR members responded to rescue two people in distress in Little Lillooet Lake. The subjects were found with minor injures and transferred to BCAS. NWE LAND Masset SAR members responded to a BCAS request to rescue a 74 year old male. The SAR team was stood down shortly after activation as the BCAS crew was able to get to the subject. 3 3 Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to a ski boat fire on Okanagan Lake just south of the OK Bridge. Upon arrival the marine rescue members discovered a smoky BBQ, but no boat fire. LAND North Shore Rescue Members responded to rescue two lost female hikers who were lost off the Skyline Trail on Grouse Mountain. The subjects were located in good condition and transferred to the RCMP. LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded to rescue a stranded hiker on Unnecessary Mountain. The hiker was rescued in good condition. LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker on the Lindeman Lake trail outside of Chilliwack. The patient was extracted out of the area and handed off to BCAS. LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate a lost female on Grouse Mountain. SAR was stood down when a member of the public located the female in good condition and guided her back RCM SAR members responded to an injured male who hit himself on the head with a surfboard on Neilson Beach on Shuswap Lake. The patient was rescued in good condition and transferred to BCAS.

4 05 19: : : : : : : : : : : : : Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to an injured male after he jumped off of the Okanagan Bridge and hit some rocks. The patient was transferred to BCAS, with lower extremity injuries. NWE LAND Terrace SAR member responded to assist with 2 lost motorists who went out driving earlier in the day on the road that heads out towards Sleeping Beauty Mountain. The subjects were located and did not require assistance. LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to a woman with an ankle injury at the Lindeman Lake Campsite near Chilliwack. SAR used HETS to extract the patient to safety. NWE LAND Bulkley Valley, 5 Houston, 3 Nechako Valley SAR and 2 Amateur Radio volunteers responded to locate a missing 84 year old male with dementia last seen on Suskwa River Road in New Hazelton. Subject was located alive and well and passed to ambulance. NEA LAND Prince George SAR members responded to locate 3 missing people that left their Jeep after it broke down on Willow Kale Forest Service Road. The SAR team was stood down en route after the RCMP located the subjects back in town RCM SAR members responded to rescue a 68 year old woman with Diabetes in Hermmit Bay area. The team was able to bring the patient to the awaiting ambulance for transport to hospital. LAND Lions Bay SAR members responded to rescue a family of 7 people that were stranded between Unnecessary Mountain and the Lions. The family was successfully rescued and the task was concluded Vernon SAR members responded to rescue a stranded kayaker in the Shuswap River. The kayaker was found alive and well. LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to locate a solo hiker on Crown Mountain. The subject was located OK in Drifter Creek and passed off to the RCMP. LAND Vernon SAR members responded to locate a missing seven year old girl. The child was located, in good condition. SEA LAND Cranbrook and 13 Kimberley SAR members responded to rescue a family of four who were stranded on the shore of the Bull River. The SAR teams were able to locate the family and transported them back to their campsite. VIR LAND PEMO, Metchosin SAR and RCM SAR responded to locate a despondent female on Inverness Rd in North Saanich. The subject was located alive and SAR was stood down. SEA LAND Golden and 5 Cranbrook SAR members with the assistance of 5 PEP AIR members responded to search for a paraglider down in the Golden area. The SAR teams were stood down when the subject self rescued :37 NEA LAND Robson Valley SAR members responded to

5 rescue an injured mountain biker in Valemount. The patient was rescued and turned over to BCAS for treatment of injuries : : : : : : : : : WEEK TOTAL YEAR TO DATE VIR LAND Cowichan Valley SAR members responded to rescue a subject in medical distress after a near drowning. BCAS and the local fire department were on scene before the SAR team arrived and were able to rescue her by air ambulance. LAND Squamish SAR members responded to rescue three trapped hikers on the Chief. The subjects were rescued via rope rescue, and returned to the group, uninjured. VIR LAND Metchosin SAR members responded to locate a missing female at Matheson Park in Metchosin. The female was located safe at home, and the SAR team was stood down. LAND Central Fraser Valley SAR members responded to search for an elderly woman who wandered away from her care home in Abbotsford. The subject was located at the Abbotsford Hospital Squamish SAR members responded to rescue a stranded kayaker near 2540 Mamquam Rd in Squamish. The kayaker was rescued and handed off to BCAS, uninjured. LAND members from Central Fraser Valley, Mission, and Surrey SAR responded to locate a missing female camper in the Fort Langley Campground area. The subject was found in a restaurant, alive and well. NEA LAND Central Cariboo SAR member responded to a request to locate a missing group of twelve children and two counsellors hiking near 100 Mile House. The group failed to check in or leave a trip plan. It was later determined that they were safe in the Spanish Mountain area and required no assistance at this time. SAR is monitoring until they arrive out safely. SEA LAND Fernie SAR members responded to rescue a female mountain biker who sustained a head injury following a crash at Eric's Trip Mountain Bike Trail in Fernie. The patient was transported out of area and turned over to BCAS for transport to hospital. SEA Castlegar SAR members responded to rescue a male in the water of the Columbia River. The male was rescued by a nearby boater, and the SAR team was stood down ELT ELT - 3

The missing child was found alive and well. LAND Vernon SAR members responded to rescue a 66 year old subject who flipped her quad in Coldstream. The patient was rescued and transported to BCAS. LAND North Shore Rescue members responded to search for a missing hiker on Mount Seymour. The hiker was located and assisted out of the area. VIR LAND Nanaimo SAR members responded to locate a missing twelve year old with developmental delays. The subject was located by the RCMP, in good condition. 3 3 Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to a tipped sailboat on Okanagan Lake. SAR was stood down when it was determined there was no sailboat in distress. LAND Vernon and 10 COSAR members responded to rescue a male who had fallen 300' over a bank at the Myra Canyon. The Vernon Heli Winch Team rescued the patient, who sustained multiple fractures and transported him directly to the hospital Kelowna Marine Rescue members responded to rescue three individuals from a flipped catamaran on Okanagan Lake. The boaters were rescued by others and transported back to shore. LAND Chilliwack SAR members responded to rescue two motorists who had gone over the bank off Chilliwack Lake Road. The SAR team was cancelled while responding when the two occupants were able to self rescue Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to locate four overdue boaters. The boaters arrived on the boat launch as SAR arrived Ridge Meadows SAR responded to rescue two stranded boaters on Alouette Lake. The subjects were rescued in good condition. 7 WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT July 03-09, 2017 DANGEROUS GOODS On 09 July 2017, a serious accident involving a semi-truck and a car caused a significant spill of diesel to Highways 3 and 93 in Cranbrook. The highway was closed, and the Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) raised the incident to a Code 2 (urgent status) due to the road closure. INTERFACE FIRE On 04 July 2017, an interface wildfire was burning in Kaleden, south of Penticton. A State of Local Emergency was declared by the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen and evacuation orders and alerts were issued. A reception Centre was opened at the Penticton Community Centre. On 05 July 2017, an incident was generated for the SEA PREOC for the 2017 wildfire season. The threat of impacts due to interface wildfires was exacerbated by dry, hot, windy weather combined with the potential for severe thunder/lightning storms forecasted to affect the region. On 05 July 2017, an incident was opened by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District in response to an interface fire (K20609) in the Cherry Creek Road area by the Trans-Canada Highway. On 06 July 2017, an INAC Wildfire Season 2017 incident was issued to the NEA PREOC in support of response to impacted First Nations communities in the region. On 06 July 2017, an incident was generated for the EMBC VIR Region for the 2017 wildfire season. On 06 July 2017, the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) responded to the Gustafsen interface fire (C40621), in the communities of 105 Mile, 108 Mile Ranch, 103 Mile and the west side of Lac la Hache. On 07 July 2017, Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) opened an incident in response to an interface fire in Ashcroft (K20637). Evacuation orders and alerts were for Cache Creek and surrounding areas. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened for Canim Lake Band IR #4 which was within the evacuation area for the Gustafsen FSR fire. On 07 July 2017, a 2017 wildfire season incident was opened for the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) in support of activated PREOCs dealing with wildfire response in various communities across the province.

8 On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened for Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District in response to a wildland interface fire (K60643), 15km from the community of Princeton where evacuation orders and alerts were issued. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire in the community of Alexis Creek, within Cariboo Regional District. The fire jumped Highway 20 and was moving quickly which resulted in evacuations of affected areas. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a forest fire in the community of Stone Indian Band, within Cariboo Regional District. An evacuation occurred as a result of this fire. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire C20729 in the community of Williams Lake, within the Cariboo Regional District. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire burning in the community of Bonaparte First Nations, within the TNRD that resulted in evacuations. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire K20666 burning near the community of Little Fort, within the TNRD that resulted in evacuations. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire C10682 near the community of Alexandria, north of Williams Lake, within the Cariboo Regional District that resulted in evacuations. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire near the First Nations community of Alexandria, within the Cariboo Regional District. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire on Thuja Creek Road, near Little Fort, within the TNRD that resulted in evacuations. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire burning in the community of Tl'etinqox Government that resulted in evacuations. On 07 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire burning in the community of the Alexis Creek that resulted in the evacuation of members of the Alexis Creek Indian Band. On 08 July 2017, an incident was opened for the City of Prince George to activate their Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in response to wildland interface fires affecting communities in their area. On 08 July 2017, an incident was opened for the City of Williams Lake to activate their Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in response to wildland interface fire C20729 burning in the Wildwood/Williams Lake North area. On 08 July 2017, an incident was opened for the Bulkley Nechako Regional District (BNRD) in response to a wildland interface fire R10659 burning near the Takysie Lake area. On 08 July 2017, an incident was generated by the NWE PREOC for the 2017 wildfire season. The threat of impacts due to interface wildfires was exacerbated by dry, hot, windy weather combined with the potential for severe thunder/lightning storms forecasted to affect the region.

9 On 08 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire C40621 near the community of 100 Mile House that resulted in a local State of Local Emergency declared and Evacuation Orders issued. On 08 July, an incident was generated in response to the Tl etinqox wildland interface fire burning near the community of the Anaham Indian Band. On 08 July an incident was opened for the TNRD to activate their EOC in response to a wildland interface fire K10666 burning in the Little Fort Thuja Creek Road area. On 08 July 2017, an incident was generated in response to a wildland interface fire C20708 burning in the community of the Sugar Cane First Nation, near 150 Mile House which resulted in the loss of 2 structures. On 08 July 2017, an incident was opened for the Fraser Fort George Regional District in response to a wildland interface fire G10847 burning in the Beaverley area which resulted in evacuations. On 08 July 2017, an incident was opened by Kootenay Boundary Regional District (KBRD) to activate their EOC for wildfire planning and situational awareness. On 08 July 2017, an incident was opened by the Bulkley Nechako Regional District in response to a wildland interface fire G40815 burning in the Tatuk Lake area that resulted in evacuation alert being issued. On 09 July an incident was opened for the Williams Lake Emergency Operations Centre to activate their EOC in response to a wildland interface fire C20708 burning in the community of Sugar Cane First Nation. On 09 July 2017, an incident was opened by the Fraser Fort George Regional District in response to a wildland interface fire G40664 burning in the Davidson Creek area, west of Tatelkuz Lake. On 09 July 2017, an incident was opened by Kamloops EOC in response to a wildland interface fire K20637 burning in the Ashcroft area which resulted in two homes in the community of the Cooks Ferry Indian being without services. On 09 July 2017, an INAC Wildfire Season 2017 incident was issued to the NWE PREOC in support of response to impacted First Nations communities in the region. On 09 July 2017, an incident was opened for the Saik-Uz First Nation in response to a wildland interface fire G40815 burning in the Tatuk Lake Fire which resulted in evacuations.

On 09 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire CF10683 burning in the Kersley area near Quesnel in the Cariboo Regional District. On 09 July 2017, an incident was opened in response to a wildland interface fire C10721 burning near West Fraser Road in the Cariboo Regional District which resulted in evacuations.
