3 Page 3 Did you know...how unserviceable flags are destroyed? The Flag Code suggests that when a flag has served its useful purpose, it should be destroyed, preferably by burning. For individual citizens, this should be done discreetly so the act of destruction is not perceived as a protest or desecration. Many American Legion posts conduct disposal of unserviceable flag ceremonies on June 14, Flag Day. Such ceremonies are particularly dignified and solemn occasions for the retirement of unserviceable flags. In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. If you have a flag that needs to be replaced, you can bring the tattered one down to the business office Monday Friday. We save them for the Flag Day Ceremony.

OSTGAARD NOVEMBER 6th, 2014 NOVEMBER 12th, 2014 The following are the calls I handled for the week of November 6th to November 12th, For the week I gave 10 traffic warnings and issue 2 citations. On 11/07 I was on patrol in the area of 30000th U Place when I observed a dirt bike riding up and down U. The bike was not street legal and the rider did not have a helmet. I stopped the rider and contacted him. He was a juvenile male that I knew to be missing and had a warrant for his arrest. I detained the rider and contacted his probation officer and his grandmother. I was advised by his probation officer that the juvenile male had a warrant, but our jail did not have the room to take him. I contacted another deputy and was advised that he also had new charges on the juvenile that he would get a warrant for. I drove the juvenile male home to his grandmother. His dirt bike was left at his friend s house. Traffic warnings: 10 Traffic citations: 4 Citizen assist: 2 Suspicious circumstances: 1 Civil issue: 1 Traffic warnings: 5 Traffic citations: 2 Welfare checks: 2 Suspicious circumstances: 2 SLOW DOWN!! 25 MPH in all Surfside areas other than I Street north of the mini mall! 5 Page 5 GETTING TO KNOW Board Secretary, Kimber is one of the friendly faces of Surfside. When you visit the office, she is most likely the one who will greet you with a big smile. You will also see her at the monthly Board Meetings taking notes and preparing and recording the minutes. Kimber started her employment here in Kimber is originally from Florida transplanted to Washington when very young and considers herself a native. She is a vivacious single mother of a 10 year old son. Kimber has 30+ years of work experience in such fields as property management, executive healthcare recruitment, veterinary assistant and has managed the opening of 5 Subway restaurants throughout Washington State. Kimber considers herself to be a tomboy at heart but like a true Gemini has many diverse interests. She enjoys pool, the Seahawks, going to the gym and of course spending time at the beach. 9 Page 9 Committee Corner Do you have experience in real estate or the construction industry? Maybe you were a contractor or a building inspector, If so the Architectural Committee needs volunteers like you! We meet once a week to review all building applications that are submitted to the Surfside business office. Most meetings run about an hour long; if you have an extra hour a week to spare, we would love your help! Also The Land & Buildings Committee and the Water Systems Planning Committee is currently recruiting new members for openings in both committees. Prospective committee members might have some of the following skills: oral/writing skills, word processing, spreadsheets, computer operating systems, construction design, hydrology, geology, water law, business law, Washington state statutes and regulations, financial analysis, budget analysis and a working knowledge of the Surfside HOA Operations Manual and the CCR s. Prospective committee members would be expected to devote several hours a week to the function of the committees. Requirements for the committee positions include: a Surfside property owner in good standing with interest in the progress of the community.
