3 Page 3 WDFW announces razor clam dates ahead of Long Beach Razor Clam Festival; Asks beachgoers to avoid snowy plovers OLYMPIA Razor clam diggers can return to various ocean beaches for a three-day opening beginning Saturday, April 20 and extending through Earth Day, April 22. State shellfish managers with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) approved the dig on morning low tides after marine toxin tests showed the clams are safe to eat. The upcoming dig is approved on the following beaches, dates, and low tides: April 20, Saturday, 7:58 a.m.; -1.1 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis; April 21, Sunday, 8:42 a.m.; -1.2 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks April 22, Monday, 9:25 a.m.; -1.0 feet; Twin Harbors, Mocrocks This is a weekend opening that should not be missed, said Dan Ayres, WDFW coastal shellfish manager. The Long Beach Razor Clam festival on Saturday, features clam digging and chowder contests, clam digging lessons, and live music even pirates and mermaids making an occasional appearance. 4 Page 4 Travis Says, SURFSIDE DEPUTY REPORT DEPUTY T. OSTGAARD APRIL 11 th APRIL 17 th, 2019 On 04/11 I was contacted by a SHOA resident about a few pieces of scrap wood taken from his lot in the block of G St. The reporting party just wanted the incident documented, because he had, No trespassing signs posted. On 04/11 I received an from a SHOA resident, and she stated that she had seen two people on her neighbors lot, and they had taken some wood. The reporting party provided me with a picture of the truck that had been on the property and a description of the male and female. On 04/12 I was dispatched to the block of G St. for a 911 hang-up call. I contacted the homeowner, and she stated she was fine. On 04/13 I received a referral from Adult Protective Services in reference to possible adult abuse in the block of U Pl. I spoke with the victim and he stated that he let a friend move in and she had not paid rent and let other people move on to his property. He stated he had not been physically abused, but he did not know what to do. I advised him that he had to have the people legally evicted. From speaking with the victim, I was able to identify a wanted subject that I thought had been living on the property. That suspect was located at the property and arrested on 04/16 for a felony warrant. On 04/17 I was dispatched to the block of I St. for a welfare check. I did not get an answer at the door and knew that the Fire Department has had multiple aid calls at the residence lately. I had the Fire Department respond to open the lockbox to get a key, and when I got inside the residence, I located the female resident deceased in her bedroom. A death investigation was done, and the body was turned over to Penttila s Chapel by the Sea. Traffic warning: 2-Suspicious circumstance: 3-Agency assist: 1-Warrant arrest: 1-Death investigation: 1 SLOW DOWN!! 25 mph in all Surfside areas other than I Street North of the mini-mall! Emergency? 5 Page 5 Planned RV/Compactor Renovation The Surfside Homeowner s Association is planning to upgrade and repair the RV/Compactor Site during calendar year This work will be accomplished through accumulation of Capital Reserve Funds. An Ad Hoc Committee is beginning the planning. The Ad Hoc Committee needs input from members especially those who have vehicles in the site. A series of Brainstorm/Member input sessions are planned. These meetings are as follows: May 11, 2019, 1PM at the Surfside Conference Room June 6, 2019, 6PM at the Surfside Conference Room July 13, 2019, 9AM and held in conjunction with the Surfside Annual Meeting. 9 Page 9 Architectural Committee Just a reminder if you are planning on installing a fence, a shed, a garage, a house or even doing a little remodeling ALL building plans must be submitted to the Architectural Committee prior to any construction. The committee usually meets weekly on Tuesdays at 9 a.m., dependent upon if there s anything on the agenda. All applicants are encouraged to attend the meeting (if possible) to answer any questions that may arise. The building packets are on our website at or you can pick one up from the business office. Two (2) sets of plans must be submitted to the committee. Once approved, you will get a copy of the plans that have been stamped so you can take them to the county for their approval. For more detailed information on the Architectural Committee duties and guidelines you can find them on our website or call the business office with any questions.
