5 N THE TRACK OF THE BEAR 6 THE ADAMELLO BRENTA NATURAL PARK The Adamello Brenta Natural Park comprses, to the west, the Trentno secton of the Adamello- Presanella massf and the so-called kngdom of water and ce: huge glacers, ragng torrents, spectacular waterfalls and dozens of enchantng lakes. To the east, meanwhle, the park ncludes the breathtakng Brenta Dolomtes: a fary-tale lke landscape of pnnacles, towers and sheer clff faces. Between these two geologcally dverse worlds le numerous beautful valleys, each wth ts own characterstc scenery. The Adamello Brenta Natural Park protects the natural and envronmental characterstcs of the area, promotes scentfc study and the use of the natural resources by the communty. It THE PARK AND THE BEARS A truly majestc and breathtakng anmal, the Alpne brown bear (Ursus arctos L.) has always fascnated manknd, so much so that ts hstory has contnually been ntertwned wth our own. The vctms of persecuton for centures, brown bears were confned to a lmted area of Western Trentno whch, n order to protect the anmals, became the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. In order to prevent the mmnent extncton of the speces, n 1996 the Park launched the brown bear rentroducton project, called Lfe Ursus. Between 1999 and 2002, 10 brown bears were released nto the wld here, adaptng so well to ther new envronment that the populaton today numbers more than 20. safeguards and enhances the natural, cultural and human resources of the terrtory. 9 Vall Gudcare CENTRALI: val d Breguzzo Terme d Comano: Monte Casale, Lomaso and Bleggo 14 A tour of the alpne summer pastures The route kcks off at Tone, followng a fantastc stretch of rough, tree-shaded track from Zuclo-Bondo, passng by the famous sanctuary of Madonna del Lares, then clmbng up through the wld Val d Breguzzo, rch n flora and fauna. It s a long, enjoyable ascent to the four alpne summer pastures along the route, whch are stll used for grazng and are deal spots for takng a break and tastng some tradtonal mountan cheese. The route then descends, alternatng woodland and open country stretches, touchng Val Rendena before fnally reachng Tone.
