TECHNICAL DETAILS LOCATION Though there were minor settlements on the site of modern-day Scandicci as early as Roman times, the first mention of the town in official documents comes only in 1774, when the Leopoldine Reform established the community of Casellina e Torri (the town s former name). Still, Scandicci stayed a small town until the 1960 s, when a veritable wave of immigration, especially from Florence, tripled Scandicci s population in slightly less than 10 years. The zone has always held a large number of villas, demonstrating that the well-to-do craftsmen and bourgeoisie of yesteryear sought not only a comfortable residence distant from the chaos of the city, but also a home reflecting the artistic culture nurtured and developed in Florence, of which Scandicci was a satellite.
