The villa for sale, situated on one of the highest hills in the area, enjoys a wonderful view over the surrounding area from where you can easily see some of the most characteristic towns of the territory of Siena and Tuscany. The villa, the church and the old garden are surrounded by a long avenue of cypresses and acacias which provides access to the pool and the other buildings of the estate.

3 Used as farm holiday accommodation and a working farm, the other buildings have been arranged into 12 apartments for guests, each of which has been restructured in rustic Tuscan style, using original materials such as oak and chestnut with brick, but also by modernising external structures and internal subdivisions of the space. Each apartment has its own balcony or terrace with a large and cool gazebo which provide shade for the spaces during the hottest periods. All apartments have their own separate entrance and those that have a terrace overlooking the garden have direct access to the panoramic swimming pool within a luxuriant natural setting. The farm, besides, proudly produces a good number of quality wines, including a Chianti Classico DOCG and Riserva wines made from Merlot grapes, Cabernet and Syrah. The estate is also noted for its extra virgin olive oil. TECHNICAL DETAILS LOCATION This is the southernmost municipality of the Chianti region where the hilly and wooded landscape blend into that of the Crete Senesi. The village of Castelnuovo is located in the upper valley of the river Ombrone and forms part of the Chianti wine area. Its construction took place in 1366 by the Sienese Republic in order to protect itself from enemies from the north and it was given its name, Castelnuovo, to distinguish it from the most ancient fortifications in the area, while Berardenga comes from the noble Berardo or Bernardo, a native of France, who had jurisdiction over the area as representative of the Emperor Louis the Pious (865). The name by baptism, constantly repeated by the heirs, gave its name to the area which they called Contea Berardenga. But in 1382, while the Senesi laborers were adding the finishing touches to the walls, Castelnuovo was attacked by the Florentines, led by Sir John Hawkwood, a leader who will go down in history with the Italianised name of Giovanni Acuto and who would be represented more than half a century later by Paolo Uccello in the great fresco of the Cathedral of Florence. Hawkwood, having occupied and looted Castelnuovo, only withdrew when he had received a ransom of 50,000 gold florins. In 1478, the village held off a new siege of eternal rivals, but surrendered again in 1489 as a result of the betrayal of Count Francesco Landi. Back in the hands of the Sienese, the town was strengthened with a second enclosure of walls which included seven watch and defence towers. Occupied in 1554 by imperial troops, the following year, with the fall of Siena, the village finally entered into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. From this moment on, the village was able to devote itself completely to its agricultural development, especially to wine and oil, to the creation of beautiful gardens beside ancient villas and, more recently, wrought iron crafts as well as tourism.
