1 Erdman Sportsmen s Club 1138 Erdman Rd, Lykens PA October , 2018 Leaders and Participants Guide General Information Arrival and check-in units camping Friday evening: Arrival Friday 5:00-8:00. Troops with Camporee only Scouts and Camporee & JOTA Scouts will be directed to their campsite on the lower field area. Troops with JOTA ONLY Scouts will be directed for camping area near upper Pavilion Field area. There will be Staff to direct vehicles to correct areas after entering Erdman s. Senior Patrol Leader AND Scoutmaster or assigned adult should check-in at Pavilion Check-in Table with Troop Roster and Camporee Payment. Saturday s final schedule and rotation assignment will be processed and distributed at the evening Leaders Meeting. SPL s at check-in: register your Troop for the Saturday evening campfire entertainment. Skit, chant, song or jokes.

2 Arrival and check-in Units arriving Saturday MORNING or participating in Saturday events (not camping): Check-in at Pavilion Check-in Table with Troop Roster and Camporee Payment. TROOPS MUST ARRIVE BY 8 am. Saturday s final schedule and rotation assignment will be given out at check-in. HQ & First Aid: All activities will be coordinated at the main pavilion. This area will also be the location of First Aid if needed during event. Each Unit should manage their unit s First Aid needs at their campsite. On-site contact phone numbers will be provided at check-in for First Aid Emergencies. Bathrooms: There will be porta-johns located in the camping area and in the JOTA Program area for Scouts. The permanent rest room facilities at the pavilion area are for adult use only. Handicapped bathrooms are available in the Pavilion area. Water: Troops should bring potable water for use in their campsites. There will be onsite water available but is located near the club facilities and a distance from the camping area (quite a haul). Garbage: Haul out trash and garbage. DO NOT utilize Erdman s dumpsters. Buddy System: Please remind all Scouts that the Buddy System should be used at all times. Scouts should never travel alone. Leaders should be made aware of Scouts locations. Parking: Please limit vehicle traffic in camping area. It will be dark at approx. 7 pm, travel slow and with caution. Parking of Trailer at Troop campsites is allowed. All other vehicles will be parked in field area near road. Campfires at Troop Sites: All fires must be off the ground (fire bowl) and ashes must be hauled out (not deposited in dumper or in trees/woods). Patrol Equipment Required: Troops will be required to have with each PATROL the following items: 1 gal water container to heat water fire starters e.g.: matches, flint & steel fire wood first aid kit compass and/or GPS device wagon to transport supplies [option] rope 4 x 25 scout handbook 2 liter soda bottle rocket, golf ball, foam board fins, construction paper (to fashion a cone), tape [may pre-assemble ] See Rockets section of Stations below.

3 Station Information A. Space Snack and Drink Challenge: each Scout will be preparing their own Astro Space snack to exacting NASA nutritional specifications for cosmic travel and formulating their own drink of Astronauts B. Reactor Core Transporter: build a transporter and move the reactor so gently and evenly that it is not jarred or jostled. Patrols must prevent an unstable core meltdown. C. Use the Force, Luke transport a spherical nitrocellulose and camphor orb from ground level to a secondary and safe location using a horizontal section of polyethylene foam by using only FORCE. D. JEDI Patrol Training Obstacle Course: All Rebel Soldiers (Scouts) in the Patrol are blindfolded except the Commander (Patrol Leader). It is the duty of the Commander to safely direct the Storm Troopers through a hazardous field of dangerous incendiary devices. E. Paper Star Fighters: Build (fold) a paper Star Fighter flier per supplied plans or a Fighter of your own design. Then compete in the flight competition and galactic planet jumping to find you way back to earth. F. ROCKETS!!!! Time for Blast OFF! Use your aeronautics design skills to build a rocket to achieve the greatest Vertical distance into space and describe a method to estimate the height of your apex. Patrols will be pre-building (each patrol will build their rocket before arriving at the Camporee) from the following approved materials: Empty 2 liter soda bottle (smooth cylinder shape only) NO Coca-Cola brand bottles with the specialty ribbed design Any sort of tape, stickers, glue Any paper, cardboard, plastic, Styrofoam Tennis balls, rocks, golf balls, Any string, yarn, rope, dental floss Hole goes to the bottom of your rocket. Any fins cannot hinder the pvc stem hookup NO METAL OBJECTS ALLOWED THAT MEANS NONE. G. FIRE BUILDING: Objective - build a fire to heat water that will melt a frozen-incarbonite Hans Solo Star war figure. H. X-WING DOCKING: Luke must fire his proton torpedo into the exhaust vent to

4 start a chain reaction to destroy the Death Star (corn hole toss) and then land his X-wing fighter at home base (can jam). I. FIRST AID FOR THE GALAXY: Patrols must correctly treat common wounds of the JEDI: Laser Burns, Alien Animal Bites, Radiation Exposure and Toxic Plant Skin Diseases. Scout First Aid for outer space. J. There will also be a Campsite Inspection conducted during the day that will be rated and scored and then added to the Patrol s point awards for stations. Inspection basted on, but not limited to the following items: trash can/bag, recycle can/bag, waste water strainer/filter, fire extinguisher, Patrol camping, Patrol flags, Troop flag, US flag, water bucket (for fire), shovel, fire bowl, gateway, trailer secure wheels: attached to vehicle or chocks, Troop first aid kit, ax yard, if using an ax/saw, cleanliness of site, no more than one vehicle at site, posted duty roster and posted menu. K. A map will be provided with the GPS coordinates of multiple general trivia questions and / or scavenger hunt items. Patrols can use down time during the day to search for the questions then provide the answers. Time is allowed at the end of the stations to complete this part of the program.
