Introduction Troop 146 is pleased to host the 2017 Chisholm Trail District Camporee. Camporee will be held March 31-April 2, 2017 at Longhorn Council s Camp Tahuaya in Belton, TX. This year s theme is Scout One: a BSA Story. It will be a weekend of adventure and exploration. We hope to see many Chisholm Trail troops and crews at Camporee Details: Chisholm Trail District (Capitol Area Council) Annual Spring Camporee Theme: Scout One: a BSA Story March 31- April 2, 2017 TROOP REGISTRATION OPENS TBD REGISTRATION CLOSES TBD REGISTER AT TBD Cost $15 per attendee Troops are strongly encouraged to register early to ensure their participants get a patch and compass at the event. Since we have to order the products well in advance, it is possible that the number of registrants could exceed the quantity ordered. If this occurs, we will inform all troops and will explore ordering more to be delivered after the camporee. Facilities: Camp Tahuaya is a Longhorn Council Property in Belton, TX, with a beautiful, heavily forested 150 acre camp with the largest natural spring in Texas. Approximately 45 minutes from Round Rock Campsites will be assigned to each troop based on their contingent size. Campsites are as you would expect in a BSA campsite, with some picnic tables, and limited prepared shelter. Campsites do have water, and additional potable water will be available at the dining hall. There are other water spigots around the camp buildings. Troop food preparations should occur at their assigned campsite, and should bring water jugs and any other items needed for them to prepare meals (e.g. portable tables, grills, cleanup, etc.) Registration Units should register online using the Capitol Area Council s DoubleKnot reservation system. A link will be posted off the Chisholm Trail District s website, or you can go directly to DoubleKnot at ActivityKey= &OrgKey=2953 Please plan to pay the full balance at the time of registration. Register your scouts/adults as a unit and NOT at the individual level. Provide the Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor name, phone number, and address as part of the registration so we can communicate regularly with your unit as Camporee approaches. Provide the number of registered scouts/crew members and registered adults that plan to attend with your unit. ONLY registered scouts/crew members and adult leaders may attend Camporee. No other family members or guests may attend unless they are registered with BSA. [The exception is for the OA Call out scheduled for Saturday evening. Family members may attend the OA Callout but must leave after Callout is completed. There is no cost for those that only attend the OA Callout.] All adults who stay overnight must be registered with their unit and have current youth protection training.

The registration fee is $15 per person (scout/crew member or adult) and includes a patch and compass. The cost for Camporee is the same for late arrivals and those that leave early. There are no pro-rated fees. Only service animals will be allowed at the Camporee; no pets of any kind. Pet owners will be required to remove them immediately. Tour Permit Since Camp Tahuaya is an out-of council camp, please file a Tour Plan with the Capitol Area Council office. Directions to Camp Tahuaya From Round Rock, go north on I-35 (about 34 miles). Take exit 289A/ Tahuaya Road. Take a left on Tahuaya Road (also known as Elmer King Road). Note: Tahuaya Road takes a sharp right as you approach the camp; do not take the jog onto Smith Dairy Road. Camp is less than a mile from I-35. Camp Tahuaya s physical address is 2603 Tahuaya Drive, Belton. GPS coordinates for the main entrance are , or +31 0' ", ' " Parking PARKING IS LIMITED. Please car pool as much as possible. Parking attendants will direct vehicles where to park in the parking lot. Overflow parking will line up along Tahuaya Road only if needed. Only one (1) trailer and one (1) vehicle per unit will be allowed in the campsite. You should pack unit and personal gear in your trailer to take to your campsite or carry your personal gear individually to your campsite when you arrive. Check-in Upon arrival, the unit leader and SPL/crew leader should bring the following items to check in at Camporee Headquarters (located at the Dining Hall): " FINAL attendance roster registered scout/crew member and adult names " Emergency name and contact phone list for 2 adults not attending camp, in case of emergency " Troop check ($) for any additional fees owed " Binder containing the Medical Parts A&B for all attendees. Individual troops will maintain their medical forms, but must check in with them.

" FINAL Order of the Arrow Ordeal candidate call out list " FINAL Order of the Arrow Brotherhood candidate list Troop 146 will not be tracking each attendee in camp. Each unit is responsible for keeping track of scouts/crew members and adults in attendance at all times, plus any guests attending the Order of the Arrow call out ceremony Saturday. First Aid and Medical Forms There will be a First Aid area near Camporee headquarters for issues units cannot address within their campsite. Medical forms for each Camporee attendee should be maintained in the campsite. In the event of an emergency that requires treatment off-site, each unit will be responsible for getting the appropriate medical form to the adults transporting the victim. Campsite assignment Your unit will be assigned a campsite upon check-in, along with a map and schedule. Depending on final registration numbers, units may have to share campsites. If this is the case, this will be noted at check-in. Please allow space if your unit is sharing a site and reduce your footprint accordingly. SPL/Scoutmaster Meeting On Friday night at 9 pm, Senior Patrol Leaders and Scoutmasters for each troop will meet in the Dining Hall for announcements, activity rotation schedules, and other last minute information. To encourage Scouting friendliness, the SPLs for each troop will draw the name of another attending troop; the SPL and their Scoutmaster will join that troop for dinner on Saturday evening to build camaraderie with. It is hoped that these meetings will encourage the sharing of ideas and opportunities with each other so that we all can be better troops. Order of the Arrow Call-out and Brotherhood Questioning The OA Call-out ceremony is used to recognize candidate scouts and scouters who have been elected by their units (prior to the Camporee) to join the OA. Units should turn in their OA Call-out list at check-in. The call-out will be held at the Amphitheater on Saturday at at the campfire. The OA Callout is a very solemn ceremony. Adult leaders should remind the scouts of the seriousness of the occasion. Anyone talking or otherwise disrupting the ceremony will be asked to leave the amphitheater without an initial reminder. Brotherhood questioning will take place Saturday at a time to be determined. If you have OA Ordeal scouts/adults who meet the qualifications for Brotherhood and are interested, please turn in their names at check-in. Please complete your troop elections for OA candidates well in advance of the camporee and submit your names, coordinating with our OA chapter. We will collect the names of your OA candidates attending camporee during check-in, so please come with a list you are able to hand in. The host troop for camporee has no other OA responsibilities, please contact OA representatives for other questions. Uniforms Class A uniforms should be worn: As your unit travels to/from the Camporee; During Flag Ceremonies; Campfire & OA Ceremony, and Scouts Own Service. Class B uniforms may be worn during Camporee competitions.

Food / Meals Each unit is responsible for their own food and drinks. Please plan for Friday cracker barrel, breakfast, lunch and dinner Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. We encourage patrols to create menu plans that are quick to prepare/clean up and provide high energy. Potable water is available on site. Electronics In general, electronics use should be discouraged upon arrival and until departure. Please ensure all cell phones are silenced during Camporee-wide announcements, Flag and OA Ceremonies, and Sunday Service. Latrines Please use the permanent bathrooms available in the camp, and not the woods or trees. Please ensure that your unit keeps the bathrooms neat and clean. Report any bathroom problems to Camporee headquarters, but troops are encouraged to bring toilet paper. Misbehavior in the bathrooms, such as clogging toilets on purpose and making a mess with toilet paper or paper towels is unacceptable. Saturday Campfire: We will have a traditional camporee campfire Saturday night, starting at APPROXIMATELY 8:00 pm. Each troop should be prepared with a skit or a song. Only one skit or song per troop. Throughout the campfire, top times/throws from the days competition will be announced. Order of the Arrow Call Out ceremony will occur during campfire. PLEASE BE COURTEOUS as the seating will be a little tricky with the area we are working with. Scouts Own Service A Scout is Reverent The Scouts Own Service will be at 9:00 am Sunday in the Amphitheater. This will be a traditional nondenominational service and we encourage all scouts and adults to be Reverent toward God. A Scout is faithful to his religious duties and respects the convictions of others in matters of custom and religion. Departure Once your unit is ready to check-out, a representative should report to Camporee Headquarters. Scouts are expected to leave the campsite better than they found it, with all trash removed. Patches and compasses will be distributed at this time. Campsites will be inspected for cleanliness prior to a unit completing check-out. Latter Day Saints units have an early check- out option on Saturday night and will be coordinated accordingly. Trash Please deposit all trash in the dumpster near the Dining Hall prior to leaving camp or haul it home.

Camporee Games Activities Overview Scouts/crew members will participate as a unit in camporee-themed activities during the day on Saturday. Each station will test scout skills, creativity, and teamwork. FIRST AID RELAY Half of scouts are injured while the rest take them to safe zone (multiple rounds) best time gets best score. Each round is a different first aid carry (Fireman's, two man, stretcher.) Score will be determined by the total time for the team to move their injured to the safe zone. This will be preceded by a Jedi training station that will provide an opportunity to learn/practice the different carries. REBEL BALL Scouts stand in a circle with legs straight and their feet touching the foot of the person next to them, and their feet are shoulder width apart. to him and try to bat the ball in between other scouts legs. Once the ball goes in between your legs, you put one hand behind your back (Similar to Ninja) If the ball bounces out of the circle, The one that bounced it out loses a hand. once a scout has no hands they are out and the circle closes in. Scoring is based on number of scouts left. Final two Scouts left are considered the winners. USE THE FORCE Scouts lift a hula hoop off the ground and move the hula hoop to another location and lower it. The scouts have to carry the hula hoop by putting one finger underneath the hula hoop. A small slip of paper is wedged in between their finger and the hula hoop to ensure that all scouts are touching the hula hoop at all times. There will be multiple checkpoints for the scouts to lower the hula hoop onto. If someone's paper falls, the scouts have to go back to their most recent checkpoint. Scoring is based on number of checkpoints reached in the allotted time. DEATH STAR CONSTRUCTION Scouts must build a sturdy structure to lift an object with only spars and rope. Scouts will race to a location and grab 7 spars and bring them back one at a time to their construction site. be provided with 7 spars and rope to lash them together and tie a cinder block 6 inches from the ground. All 7 spars must be used. After built, all Scouts will stop touching the structure, and the cinder block must remain elevated for 30 seconds. Once the 30 seconds is done, the team will disassemble the structure and put the equipment back where they found it for their total time. Scoring is based on how fast they can build a structure that can support a provided weight. Additional time will be added on if knots used to build the structure are not found in the Scout Handbook.

This will be preceded by a Jedi training station that will provide an opportunity to learn/practice lashings and knot tying.. LIGHTSABER DEFLECTION Scouts hit laser bullets wiffle ball with lightsaber colored plastic bat for distance and/or accuracy. Hula hoops will be set up around the course and each hula hoop will be assigned a point value. Distance markers will be set up for score where it lands, and will be attempted by the youngest Scouts. When going for accuracy, scouts will have the option to hit from a tee. When going for distance, three older scouts will be pitched to by another scout. Each scout will have two swings when at bat. LASER BATTLE A grid of laser beams (string) is set up and a team of 8 scouts will attempt to go through it. Only one Scout may go through any hole in the laser grid. They can choose which 8 scouts. Scoring will be determined by the total time for the 8 scouts to complete the obstacle. Time will be added to the final for every rope touched; differing color ropes will have differing time penalties. ESCAPE Cinder blocks are precisely laid out precisely at certain distances and the Scouts are given boards to traverse the cinder blocks. If a scout touches the ground, the team starts over. Boards may have one end dragged on the ground while putting them in place. Scoring is based on time for the whole team to reach the finish point. A team of 3-4 scouts will travel across the obstacle course; one member of the team must be a new scout that joined the troop in CHIRRUT ÎMWE The 4 youngest scouts of a team are blindfolded and must be guided through a maze by their peers. The peers will be outside the maze, calling into the maze to guide them to the end of the maze. The 4 Youngest scouts will be the ones blindfolded inside the maze and the oldest will be guides. The maze will contain waypoints; if a scout touches one of the walls/rope, they will be escorted by staff to the last completed waypoint to begin again. Scoring is based on how long it takes to get ALL scouts to the end of the course. STEAL THE PLANS Scouts must grab a full set of plans (floppy disks) from underneath staffer. A set of plans is defined as three floppy disks of the same color. Multiple teams will compete at the same time to attempt to steal the plans. The staffer is blindfolded, but if he points at you, you have to go back. Scouts can come at the staffer from all directions. Scoring is based on how fast they can take the plans. Once all portions of the plan have been taken back to where the scouts started, time will be stopped for that team.

I AM ONE WITH THE FORCE, THE FORCE IS ONE WITH ME A stump is cut up so that a match can stand up on the stump. Each scout gets 5 swings with a hatchet to split the match. The first 8 people that go will be scored by total number of matches split. Scouts will receive a 1/2 point if the match is chipped (as defined by the judge), and 1/2 point if the match is lit by the hatchet strike.
