1 July 2012 HOGWASH DIRECTOR S ARTICLE Mark s Corner July is here, and we are well into summer. We have already had some great rides this year with many more scheduled in the warm months ahead. Before the end of summer, we will have experienced everything from Handguns and Harleys to the upcoming award winning Paddle and Saddle trip in the western North Carolina mountains in August. Our road captains are always looking for new ride destinations and activities associated with those rides. If you discover a great destination for a ride or have an idea for a ride, please pass it onto Matt Langley, any one of the road captains or myself. At my last count, Matt and our road captains have already placed seven rides on the calendar for the month of July. If you want to get out and ride, I m sure we have a ride for you. As I write this article, we have a roster of 230 members. We are growing! We have picked up a number of new folks in the last several months. Many of these have become very active in a short period of time. I have gotten to know many of these new members, and they are just great folks who already add greatly to our chapter. Lets all continue to make our new members and guests fell at home and among friends at all of our events. July brings us the Curves & Chrome weekend rally for a cure hosted by Bikers Battling Breast Cancer, Inc. and our own Lisa Herman, who is an Atlanta Chapter member. This important weekend, July 20-22, is filled with some great events, a VIP party, bike show, fashion show and the 7 th Annual Biker s for Boobs Poker Run carrying us through the back roads of west Georgia. This is a great fun filled event that benefits so many as we all have been touched by the loss of a family member or friend to breast cancer. I look forward to seeing you on the next ride! The Official Newsletter of the Atlanta Chapter, Inc. Chapter Number 0788 We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. Sir Winston Churchill Mark Redmon, Director TREASURER S ARTICLE Attendance Jackpot Congratulations to Dirt Jones whose name was drawn for the June Attendance Jackpot. Dirt was not at the meeting to claim the $80. We will add $10 to the Jackpot for the next chapter meeting, $90. Remember you must be at the meeting and a member in Good Standing, a current member of national H.O.G. and Atlanta Chapter. If the member whose name is drawn is not at the meeting, we will add $10 and try again next meeting. Please have your National H.O.G. card with you at the meeting. Hope to see everyone there. René Durham, Treasurer Early Bird Ride On Saturday, July 14, we will be heading out early and going to Doug s Place in Emerson, GA for a good ol country breakfast. After breakfast, we will head up 411, stopping in Chatsworth, then onto Fort Mountain State Park. There we will stop a the overlook to soak in some of the scenery. Then we will head home via Ellijay and Waleska. Hope that everyone will come out and join me for some great food and riding. Randy King, Road Captain He who angers you, controls you!

3 HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN S ARTICLE So far, we are half way through 2012, and we have had a great year so far. We have had a full calendar and lots of people to show up for the rides. It is very exciting to see the participation of the chapter to be high. I just want to say thanks to the road captains for putting some great rides out there for the members. Also, a big thanks to the members for coming out on the rides and making it worth the work of planning the rides. I look forward to the rest of the year with many more exciting rides coming up. Make sure to keep a look out on the calendar in the HOGWASH, the website and the weekly e-blast. Below are a few of my upcoming rides that I would love to see everyone come out and join me. July 4 - All American Ride-Ride to Sticky Fingers in Chattanooga for a great meal and back roads. July 15 - What ll Ya Have? Come join us as we ride back roads into downtown Atlanta and eat lunch at the Varsity. July 28 - Shootin the Hooch-Ride to Helen, GA and go tubing. We will tube down the river, eat lunch, and then enjoy some mountain roads on the way home. Make sure to bring a change of clothes to wear down the river. Matt Langley, Head Road Captain Impromptu ABCs Ride Please come and join me in our search for ABCs. The plan is to make ten, or so, stops for ABCs and then enjoy lunch together. While the ride is titled Impromptu, I will preride the route to ensure we have photo opportunities and to ensure the quality of the food establishment. northeast Alabama and then into Tennessee. The group got to enjoy some of those roads in Tennessee where you say, How did you find this road. We arrived in downtown Lynchburg, grabbed lunch at a great deli, and then toured the world famous Jack Daniel s Distillery. After the tour, we spent a little time in the shops in the historic square, the saddled up and headed to the hotel in Huntsville, Alabama. In Huntsville, we all enjoyed the social time in the evening as we hung out at the hotel. This is always the best time to get to know your fellow chapter members. Then the next morning, we all assembled for the journey home. Along the way, we stopped at Noccalula Falls State Park to feed the ducks and see the waterfall. After the ducks had their meal, we headed onto lunch at Top of the River in Anniston, Alabama. I have had more requests for long overnight rides such as the one we did to Lynchburg. These are some of the best rides due to length, scenery and the time spent with the other members. We have several more trips such as this coming up in Make sure you keep a look out on the calendar for these rides. If you missed the Lynchburg ride, just make sure to attend one of the others later in the year. Thanks to all that came out on the Lynchburg ride. We had a great time! Matt Langley, Road Captain WHEN HELMETS MAKE NO SENSE... Mike Perdue, Road Captain Distillery Run Recap On May 26, we left the Pavilion with 11 bikes headed toward Lynchburg, Tennessee. I lead the group through one of my favorite areas to ride. We traveled through northwest Georgia into

4 Great entertainment is brewing just for you! The rally committee is working hard on lining up great events and activities for you to do in North Georgia. Events such as Poker run, Pig roasts, Beach Parties, Live concerts, Biker Bingo, Bike games, Smash our Balls, Bike Show, Ride in Movies, Shopping, S mores by the fire, Cash giveaways and yes many beautiful rides. 5 5 th Annual, Award Winning, Saddle & Paddle IT S BACK! Time to start planning for the 5 th Annual, Award Winning, Saddle & Paddle Ride. This is an overnight ride that includes white water rafting, beautiful mountain riding, and we re even looking at the possibility of doing some zip lining. I m still checking on that at this point. But I wanted to go ahead and give you some details on booking a room. I couldn t pass up staying at Fontana Village Resort again. They have given us the same rate we had last year for a one night stay for $89 plus tax. When you receive this message in the weekly blast and in the HOGWASH you can call to reserve your room be sure to say you re with Atlanta HOG to get that rate. The date we are staying is Saturday, August 11. You can call to reserve your room. Some of the details are as follows: We will meet at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday morning August 11 in the parking lot of Brandsmart USA off Chastain Road on Busbee Parkway (3305 Busbee Drive NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144). Some of us meet at the Cracker Barrel on the corner at 7:00 A.M. for breakfast. We leave there and head up to the Nantahala River for a check in time at 1:00 P.M. with a lunch stop in Andrews. We will raft down the river finishing about 4:30 or so and head to Fontana (with the possibility of some zip lining on the way). On Sunday morning, we leave Fontana and ride the Cherohala Skyway then back down US 411 home. The cost of the rafting is $20 each unguided. These rapids aren t that bad so guides are really not needed. Come on out and have some fun. Get to know your fellow chapter members. Maybe get to know them better than you wanted to.
