1 June 2012 HOGWASH DIRECTOR S ARTICLE Mark s Corner It is June already. The year is certainly passing quickly. We got a good start this year and have already had some great rides and activities. June 9 is the date set for the Skilled Rider s Course. I, for one, have already signed up to take the course. The class is being taught by Ronnie Lang, an active Atlanta Chapter member and a certified MSF and H-D certified instructor. Ronnie is going to focus and help us hone the skills we use every day control at low speeds, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgment, stopping quickly on straights and in curves and multiple curve maneuvers. See Rene Durham in the dealership to sign up. Come and join me out on the course. To kickoff summer our June Chapter meeting is going to move from Thursday, June 21 to Saturday, June 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the pavilion. After the meeting, we will have a lunch ride to Johnny Mitchell s Smokehouse in Euharlee, GA (about 55 minutes / 41 miles from the dealership). Come join us for some good fellowship and a fun ride to Euharlee for some great BBQ. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, professionals built the Titanic. Chuck was not at the meeting to claim the $70. We will add $10 to the Jackpot for the next chapter meeting, $80. Remember you must be at the meeting and a member in Good Standing, a current member of The Official Newsletter of the Atlanta Chapter, Inc. Chapter Number 0788 national H.O.G. and Atlanta Chapter. René Durham, Treasurer June Birthday Ride Hope you guys will come out in June for the birthday ride. Randy King is going to lead us all to the famous Tasty Dip in Heflin, Alabama. I have heard so many good things about the ice cream treats out there that I cannot wait. Mike Perdue led a ride out there in May, and it was a great turn out. So if you missed the last Tasty Dip ride make sure you come out and enjoy this one. Happy Birthday to all June babies. Randy King, Road Captain Million Mile Monday Where s Waldo Join us for a ride to Waldo, Alabama for lunch at the Old Mill Restaurant ( The Waldo Covered Bridge is also on the premises and can be visited. For those participating in the 2012 ABCs of Touring, we will also be taking pictures at the Talladega National Forest. Three pigs - ride should be of moderate difficulty. Four and five pigs - rides with a high number of curves, long distance, saddle time, road conditions, speed, and weather.

4 SAFETY OFFICER S ARTICLE Hone Your Riding Skills The HOG Safe Rider Skills Program offers up to $50 reimbursement (in the form of a HOG coupon) to HOG members who successfully complete an accredited Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) rider training course, including the Harley-Davidson Rider s Edge courses. We have such courses offered by Harley-Davidson of Atlanta; in fact, several Chapter Officers will be taking the Advanced Riders Skills Course on 9 June The cost of the course is $100 for HOG Members; so with the $50 reimbursement, it will only cost you $50. In addition to the $50 HOG coupon, you will receive a pin and patch featuring the Safe Riders Skills logo. To claim your reimbursement you will need to complete the form located at members.hog.com/ website/ protect_your_ride/forms/ 2012_Safe_Rider_Skills_Form.pdf. If you need assistance with the form, please do not hesitate to contact me. To qualify for the $50 coupon you must: 1. Be a current HOG member on the date the course began 2. Send the proper documentation within three months of the course completion date 3. Limited to reimbursement for one course annually with a maximum of $50 After a minimum of 12 Atlanta chapter members complete an accredited 2012 rider training course, and submit the proper paperwork, a Safe Riders Skills plaque will be sent to our sponsoring dealer, Harley-Davidson of Atlanta. Mike Perdue, Safety Officer Just Peachy Come out on Saturday, June 30 as we take a leisure mile ride to Messily, Georgia. Yeah, I have never heard of Musella either. Anyway, we will be taking some scenic byways south toward Jackson for lunch at Fresh Air BBQ. After lunch we will ride to Dickey Farms in Musella for some after lunch treats. Dickey Farms is a peach packinghouse that has been growing peaches for more than 115 years. They have delicious peach ice cream, fritters, and other peach products for sale. 5 Hooks and Hogs On June 24 and June 25, HOG is holding the annual Million Mile Monday event. This year they have extended the event to include Sunday as well as Monday so that more people can get out and ride and record some miles. Amanda, I and the Kings had planned to take a trip to Panama City Beach, Florida that weekend to go deep sea fishing. So we all thought it would be a great idea to invite our HOG family to join us on our ride. We will be leaving on Friday, June 22 at 8:30 a.m. from the Pavilion and head south via I-85 to Phoenix City, then Hwy. 431 to Hwy. 231 through Dothan and into PCB. On Saturday, we are planning to go deep sea fishing on a party boat. The fishing trip will be a 5-hour trip for $55 per person. If someone would like to go on the boat ride, but not fish it is $20 per person. Sunday we will head out from PCB around 9:00 a.m. or so, depending on what the group wants to do and head home. The ride to PCB one way is approximately 300 miles. So if you decide to join us, you will easily be able to record 300 miles for the Million Mile Monday event. On this trip, we will not be reserving hotel accommodations for the group. It will be up to each individual to reserve their hotel or condo for the weekend. Amanda and I will be staying at a family condo on Thomas Drive and plan to host a HOG gathering on Saturday night for everyone to come hang out with us. We will also plan a dinner out somewhere in town for everyone to meet and eat together. Below is the contact information for the deep sea fishing company. This company suggests calling at least a week before to book your fishing trip. If you do not reserve a spot early, there is no guarantee that there will be room on the boat for you, so please make sure to call and reserve your spot. mountain riding and we re even looking at the possibility of doing some zip lining. I m still checking on that at this point. But I wanted to go ahead and give you some details on booking a room. I couldn t pass up staying at Fontana Village Resort again. They have given us the same rate we had last year for a one night stay for $89 plus tax. When you receive this message in the weekly blast and in the HOGWASH you can call to reserve your room be sure to say you re with Atlanta HOG to get that rate. The date we are staying is Saturday, August 11. You can call to reserve your room. Some of the details are as follows: We will meet at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday morning August 11 in the parking lot of Brandsmart USA off Chastain Road on Busbee Parkway (3305 Busbee Drive NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144). Some of us meet at the Cracker Barrel on the corner at 7:00 A.M. for breakfast. We leave there and head up to the Nantahala River for a check in time at 1:00 P.M. with a lunch stop in Andrews. We will raft down the river finishing about 4:30 or so and head to Fontana (with the possibility of some zip lining on the way). On Sunday morning, we leave Fontana and ride the Cherohala Skyway then back down US 411 home. The cost of the rafting is $20 each unguided. These rapids aren t that bad so guides are really not needed. Come on out and have some fun. Get to know your fellow chapter members. Maybe get to know them better than you wanted to. 6 Sweet Child O Mine Ride In 1987, the rock group Guns n Roses came out with the song Sweet Child O Mine it was a huge hit. There was a line toward the end of the song that went as follows, Where do we go now, where do we go? Well this line in that song drove me absolutely crazy. I used to scream at the radio, YOU RIGHT MORE LYRICS! Well, that brings me to this ride. Last month Matt sent an asking for rides, well I like going on & leading rides. So the thought hit me, I really don t know where I m going or where I m going to wind up so why not a where do we go / Sweet Child O Mine ride. Here s the loose plan. We meet at the pavilion at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 9:30AM on Sunday, June 3. We will leave there at approximately 10:00AM headed south. We will either head back roads to Hog Heaven BBQ in Hogansville or if I can determine if The Bullock House has opened back up we will go a similar way, but go over Pine Mountain into Warm Springs for Lunch at The Bullock House. At this point I really don t know hence the name, Sweet Child O Mine ride. So join me for an unknown adventure on a Sunday.
