Nancy and I have really enjoyed the rides and our friends in the Atlanta chapter. We finished the year with a bang! The Christmas Party was well attended and I think a good time was had by all. The Best Ride for 2012 was the Hooks and Hogs ride to PCB led by our Head Road Captain, Matt Langley. The Most Events Attended awards went to Amanda Langley and Randy King. The recipients of the Heart of the Rider recognition were Melissa Fuller and Matt Langley. Thanks Melissa for all the time and effort in scheduling and arranging the party. Melissa Fuller, who has done a superb job with the busy job of Activities Officer, is passing the torch to Suzanne Rapp. Thanks Melissa for a job well done! Be on the look-out for Suzanne Rapp as I know she will hit the pavement running this year. Suzanne has already offered some ideas to shake things up a little for BK Ellis has elected to pass the Hogwash editor s job to Mike Perdue who is currently putting together our monthly publication. As many of you know BK is one of the charter members of the Atlanta Chapter and has served our chapter in so many areas since Thanks BK for all the hard work and dedication. Be sure to mark your new calendar with January 1, New Year s Day Good Luck Ride. We will meet at the HDA pavilion at 9am, leaving at 9:30 for Buckner s Restaurant in Jackson, Ga. This is always a wellattended ride and a good way to kick off the New Year. (Be sure to bring some cash Buckner s is cash only no credit cards). As this issue will be sent out prior to the holidays I would like to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Four pigs: Lots of curves, some with decreasing radius turns and/or cover a major distance requiring a good deal of technical skill and stamina. Major traffic such as I75 can be part of this rating. Five pigs: Most difficult category due to the severity and number of curves combined with a long ride. The Southern Highroads Trail, Suches, and Gatlinburg would fall into this category.

3 Atlanta HOGWASH January 2013 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR S CORNER: 2012 was a great year to be a member of the Atlanta Chapter H.O.G.! I like to take this time of year to reflect on my adventures and the good times I ve been able to enjoy. The Atlanta chapter was a large and fun part of my year with new and old friends. My Atlanta chapter friends are really more like family than just riding buddies. I was able to put lots of miles on the Electraglide as well as the Heritage! I also got a record (for me) number of letters on the ABC s of touring around 80! Melissa and I went on so many fun rides and events that I get a little dizzy trying to think of them all. I m planning on 2013 being an even better year! My advice to you is to get involved with the chapter events and volunteer to help out when you can that s the best way to make the most of your membership! Ride on! Chuck aka Chaos HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN S CORNER As we forge into the New Year I reflect back. We had a good year in 2012 with more than 60 rides and several socials. With that I would like to thank all road captains and members alike. Without all of you, our chapter would not be what it is today. We have really grown by leaps and bounds. The road captain team is already planning many excellent rides for this year. We have had very good suggestions for day rides and overnight rides. If any of you have not had a chance to go on an overnight ride, you owe it to yourself to tag along on one in This is where you will really get to know your fellow HOG members. Throughout the year keep your eyes on the calendar for all of our great adventures. We will have our annual road captain s planning meeting on January 13 th at 4pm. I hope that all of our active road captains can make sure to attend this meeting. Make sure to come with your ideas and plans for 2013 so that we can go ahead and start booking the calendar up. The meeting will be held at Monterrey s Mexican restaurant on Hwy 5 in Douglasville. Head Road Captain Matt Langley YESTERDAY AND TODAY: From January 2005, it seems the Pizza Farm has been a popular destination for years Pizza Farm Dinner Ride The Pizza Farm restaurant has been open more than 30 years. It is a favorite with the locals. They serve a variety of foods from pizza, steak and salads. I am sure everyone will find something they will enjoy. When we leave Harley-Davidson of Atlanta, we will travel approximately 30 miles to Rockmart, GA by the way of Braswell Mountain, a nice smooth and slightly curvy ride. Because of the temperature and curves, this will be a 2-pig ride. You should dress for the cold. They open at 4:00 P.M... Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. 4 Atlanta HOGWASH December 2012 MEMBERSHIP CORNER: As the year is coming to an end, it is time to renew your membership for the coming year. There is a Membership Application in this issue that you can complete, or you can always pick one up at the Dealership from Rene Durham. Complete the Membership Application and include your yearly fees of $20.00 and either give to Brian Nabors or you can drop it off with Rene Durham at the Dealership. Brian Nabors, Membership Officer SAFETY CORNER: TOP 10 TIPS FOR SAFER HOLIDAYS 1. Water, water, water your tree. Dry trees pose a fire risk make a fresh cut on the base before putting your tree into a sturdy stand, and water frequently. 2. Check your lights, check them twice. Inspect all of your electric lights and decorations for damage or wear. Cracked sockets, frayed or bare wires and loose connections may pose a fire or shock hazard. 3. Plan your fire escape. Use the holidays as a good time to practice a fire escape plan with your loved ones. Identify at least two exits from every room in the house. 4. Sleep safe: Install carbon monoxide alarms. Be sure that at least one carbon monoxide alarm is installed on each floor of your home, and always close to sleeping areas. 5. Be flame aware. Always blow out unattended candles and teach your children to stay away from lit candles or fireplaces. 6. Give wrapping paper a second life. Don t burn used wrapping paper as it may cause intense flash fires. And throwing it out adds waste. Consider recycling or repurposing it instead. 7. Check extension cords. Do not connect more than three miniature light strings together. Also, be sure to check the rating on your extension cords and do not plug in more than the recommended wattage. 8. Steer your tree clear. Your tree should be positioned at least three feet away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources. It should also not block any doorways or exits. 9. Decorate with a safe eye. Cords should not be run under carpets or tacked-up with metal nails or staples. Small decorations can be choking hazards so keep them out of the reach of toddlers. 10. Look for UL. The UL mark on a product means that samples of that product have been tested to the highest safety standards. Make sure to look for it to help keep your holidays safe and bright. Phat Phil s Lunch Ride Sunday, January 20, 2013 Meet at HD of Atlanta Pavilion at 10:30am Leave at 11am Road Captain: Matt Langley Join Amanda and I for a lunch ride to beautiful Draketown, Georgia as we will venture out to Phat Phil s restaurant. The menu at Phat Phil s has something for everyone from salads and sandwiches to steaks. As most of you know, January weather in Georgia is unpredictable. So if it is too cold to ride, bring the cage. We will meet at HDA at 10:30 AM and leave at 11:00 AM.
