We will discuss upcoming events including the Speedster Run in October.There are also some interesting tours planned for August and September, so all board members should plan to be there. 6:00 PM. Annual dues are $20. The club holds a dinner meeting on the second Wednesday in odd numbered months and tours during even numbered months. The date of the next event can be obtained by calling any of the club officers or by checking the Upcoming Events listing in this issue. The club is a Chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America, P.O. Box 126, Centerville, IN Membership information for the 'National' can again be obtained from any officer. The main publication of the MTFCA is the Vintage Ford, which alone is well worth the national dues of $40 per year. Lifetime memberships are also available. 2 President s Message Woooo hooo, it s hotter than the dickens out here. Hope everyone is staying cool and making sure to keep extra water in your cars. I wanted to thank everyone who gave presentations during our July meeting, and helped make it another successful meeting. My goal is to hand out paper and some pencils at our next meeting to strive for new ideas to make our meetings more interactive, entertaining, and fun for everyone. It s time again to start thinking about board member positions. If you have an interest, feel free to make it known, this way we have some names for our upcoming elections for the 2017 board. I encourage if you have ideas to make the club run either more efficiently, or ideas how to increase our members, this is a great chance to get involved and do so. Membership and club activity are issues that clubs all across the country are having. Unbelievably November is creeping up on us for our auction, keep setting items to the side to make this our best auction yet. Coming at the end of the Month on the 27th is our trip to the Ellison Museum on Morena Blvd. which features Rolls Royce and Bentley automobiles. I hear that it is fabulous exhibit and hope that many will make it in their Ts. A reminder, free lunch will be served to those who drive their cars. Again, I hope to see everyone there. 3 Minutes of the General Meeting - July 13, 2016 Held at the San Diego Automotive Museum Start Time: 7:20 PM Following an excellent dinner by the BBQ Pit, Eric opened the meeting. Kirt led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 38 in attendance. Presentations: Norm Kling shared his memories on Model Ts. He had lots of great stories and many Don t do it this way comments! Jim Train brought to our attention that many cities around the world are starting to ban old cars from driving within their limits. The state of Maine has already passed legislation banning older cars. He suggests that our club start a PAC to protect the antique car hobby. Reports: President - Eric introduced new member Dee Reed. He has a 1924 Roadster and lives in El Cajon. VP - Jerry was not able to attend. Treasurer - Tony says the club has enough money to cover all business. We re trying again for a Death Valley tour next spring (Feb-Apr). Historian - Kirt has started a daunting task. He s created a spread sheet listing as many members as possible with lots of information (tours, deaths, etc.). It has morphed into a behemoth. His goal is to have this spread sheet completed by the end of this year. He d like another plaque/award Tour Chairman - Norm talked about the following tours Aug 27 - Car Collection Tour off Moreno Blvd - Meet in Mission Bay area around 9:00. More information to come.. Blood Drive - Aug 14 outside the San Diego Automotive Museum. Bring cars for rides! Oct Speedster Run Pacific Southwest Museum Tour will be postponed to March 2017 Member at Large - John reported from the Car Council. Automotive Museum has installed new fans to help keep the building cooled. The museum has also won 1st place in a nationwide competition. Editor - Chuck had to leave early. He has nothing new to report. Sharing: National Tour - Tony s front truck tire blew out completely off the rim, took out the side view mirror. Other than that, he had a great time. His 1914 didn t make it to the top ofthe four-mile grade (5+% grade ending at above 9,000 feet) Eric talked about the Horseless Rodeo at the San Diego County Fair. Mac got stuck! 5 Coronado Parade Ten Model Ts (the maximum allowed for any car club) were presented to the several hundred thousand who lined the parade route for this year s Coronado Fourth of July parade. The weather was perfect (not too hot for July) and a great time was had by all with no problems along the route. Thanks to Bob and Marilyn Bishop who provided a ride for your editor and club secretary. THE VALLEY CENTER LIBRARY AND THE MODEL T The Valley center Library will be celebrating its 100th year in existence on September 17, 2016 with an Old Time Country Fair at the Library located at Cole Grade Road. The event will occur from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The Valley Center Historical Society whose Museum is located next to the Library has been tasked with locating a 1916 or close Model T. With the founding of the Library in a general store on what was a dirt road running through Valley Center in 1916 we have to assume that a number of visitors to the store and the library were conveyed in a Model T. With production of Ford Model T s in 1916 being close to 467,000 those vehicles are recognized for opening up the country side to local residents and visitors. No longer would Valley Center be merely a small village with a stage stop or only accessible by horse drawn wagon or buggy. We would appreciate having a Model T on display on September 19th for our visitors to examine and study. We would like to have the vehicle in place by 11:00am and have parking reserved for a tow vehicle and trailer. There will be free food available and people on hand to watch over the car and answer questions. 6 The year 1997 president was Roy Galdi Suzie Murdock was Historian New members Clarence Schiedel, Mike and Robin Judd, and Don Chidgey Tony Bowker hosted the 10 th annual speedster run Kirt Simpson, Historian Rolls Royce / Bentley Tour Event: Tour of John Ellison s car collection on Morena Blvd. Date: Saturday, August 27 Time: Meet at 9:00 AM, Leave at 9:30 Meet: Parking lot north of Mission Bay Visitor s Center (foot of Clairemont Dr.) The collection specializes Rolls Royce and Bently autos and there are several of each including some that have historical significance. There are other cars in the collection and many posters and other memorabilia. The place is fabulous. The trip is short so, after about two hours at the collection we will take a drive to a restaurant for lunch. We are inviting two other clubs to join us. Mr. Ellison s first collector car was a Model T that he bought in the 1960 s. We should honor him by showing up in good numbers. He wants to see our cars Auto Heritage Day August 27, 2016 Our club has received an application form announcing the event. It s always a great show with lots of interesting cars to see and also lots of trophies (over 75) for the many classes represented. The cost to register is $25.00 (but that s for those who register early) and even if you show up on the day of the show, you can still get in. He had located the man in LA who restored it in the 60 s or 70 s, and, according to his research, had decided that it was original. It was made in 14 but Henry had some 13 engines and transmissions left over so he used them (very typical in a model year changeover - Ed.). So it is registered as a 13 because of the engine number. The owner states: The car is in good condition. Good tires, upholstery, body, paint and all. Just had the gas tank and radiator cleaned but have not started it since. I have no doubt that it will run just fine. Along with the car I have an 18 engine with all machine work done, babbiting done, crank, rods and pistons installed. All parts are there for a complete engine rebuild. I also have an 18 transmission completely rebuilt with a hogs head that takes a starter (also have a starter). In addition, I have 4 demountable rims. All the above goes with the car. Am asking $14, for everything, but will entertain any reasonable offer.
