1 Volume 34 - Number 1 Established 1983 Januaryr 2016 Installation Luncheon January 31, 2016 Don t forget that Sunday, January 31 is the date for our 2016 installation luncheon. After a great experience last year, we will return to the Butcher Shop restaurant (5255 Kearny Villa Rd, San Diego, CA 92123) and are looking for a great turnout. The individuall cost is set at $27 thanks to the proceeds of our annual auction. There is plenty of free parking, and only a couple of steps to get into the restaurant. The time is still 12:30 pm and we will eat at 1:00 pm. Remember, if you come in period costume, there is an extra door prize ticket for you. Use the handy coupon on page 3 to register your attendance, and we hope to see everyone there. Showing at the Museum Showing now: The Future Coming Next: The Briish Are Coming Congratulations to all the following who start off the new year with a birthday: Board Meeting - January 13 The next board meeting will be on Wednesday, January 13. 2 President s Message It s hard to say goodbye to old friends and now we are doing it again. When George Coffin passed away we not only lost a friend, but a wealth of mechanical knowledge - and stories. Boy, he had lots of stories - and they were always interesting. You could tell he enjoyed it because his eyes would twinkle he told them. He always had something to add at the meetings. I ll miss that. Goodbye, George. How do we replace people like George and their experience? In some ways we don t. But those of us who are new to the hobby must take up the slack. We will be the old timers some day and others will look up to us. It s nice to know that we have added new members in the past few years and these people are dedicated and want to participate. Let s all look for ways to help, learn more about the cars, be better mechanics, and keep our cars out in the sunshine working for a living. Sunshine (and Showers) Report George Coffin passed away Monday, November 30th. George had been having health problems for the last couple of months and several weeks ago he had a stroke followed by several complications. George was our club president in 1984 and enjoyed the car hobby so much. He will be missed by all. His ashes will be sprinkled at varies placed he loved to go to. The Horseless Carriage is planning a tour in his memory in the near future. Kathy and her daughter would love to hear from you or send a card to: The Coffin Family 4003 King Street La Mesa, CA Remember to call me at or me at judynjohn@burrellteam.com when something happens, so I can send out cards or call. We care about all our members in the San Diego Model T Club. Judy Burrell Club Website Be sure to visit the club s website. Pictures of member s cars and car data are requested. The website can be reached at the following address: mtfcsd.com Special to Club Members Only A Members Only portion of the club website is available to members using a special password which will change fom time to time. 5 Blast From the Past No report this month but hope you had a very Merry Christmas and are looking forward to a great New Year in 2016 Kirt Simson, Historian Winter Overnight Tour to El Centro The overnight winter tour will be over the weekend of February 6/7. Plan on a Saturday start with a visit to the Holtville Carrot Festival followed by a BBQ near Sunbeam Lake at the home of Eric & Jennifer Sayer. Sunday will be a visit from an antique Fire Engine, a drive to lunch and a visit to the Pioneer Museum. Some intrepid members are planning to drive out to El Centro on the Friday and return on Monday. The motel is Rodeway Inn at 1093 Airport Rd, Imperial 92251, (769) Rates start about $55 and there is parking space for trailers For more information contact Tony at (760) Death Valley Tour The Death Valley Tour, previously scheduled for early next year, has been cancelled due to the serious flooding and damage from recent rains. Look for something the following year (2017) as it will take that long for recovery to take place. Meanwhile, a Route 66 Tour is being planned for the first week of May which could include a trip to the Grand Canyon for two days. At the moment, a Hub type tour (where you return to the same point each night) is being planned. Any questions should be directed to Norm Kling (619) , ASAP. 5

6 Ruckstell Review January 2016 IF MY BODY WAS A CAR If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I ve got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull, but that s not the worst of it. My fenders are too wide to be considered stylish. They were once as sleek as a little MG; now they look more like an old Buick. Wanted - Fixture to straighten Model T Exhaust manifolds. I would like to borrow or buy one. Tony Bowker tonybowker@aol/com 1917 Oak bed Pickup - Ground up restoration in progress will paint and upholster any color or it will be black when finished. This is a great opportunity to have a say in the finished product. Call for price. NOTE: special consideration given to club members. Wanted right rear fender, Emergency brake cam and levers. NOTE: I will buy any and all Model T parts in lots or individually, so get rid of some of your unwanted parts. (04/15- Rev.) Kirt Simpson, (619) Ruckstell Review Classifieds Policy For Sale items will be listed at no cost and will run for a three month period. Listing will be extended for an additional three month period on request of seller. It is requested that the Ruckstell Review Editor be notified when listed items have been sold so that they may be deleted. When contacting the editor, Chuck West, please be advised that there are two of us in the club with the same name, I m the one on Greyling Dr. My son keeps getting my mail and (fortunately) we are on good terms so I eventually get the information. Thanks. My seat cushions have split open at the seams. My seats are sagging. Seat belts? I gave up all belts when Krispy Cremes opened a shop in my neighborhood. Air bag s? Forget it. The only bags I have these days are under my eyes. Not counting the saddlebags, of course. I have soooooo many miles on my odometer. Sure, I ve been many places and seen many things, but when s the last time an appraiser factored life experiences against depreciation? My headlights are out of focus and it s especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here s the worst of it allmost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter... either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires 6
