Minutes for HVMTC General Meeting July 2 nd, 2014 Meeting opened at 7 pm by Past President Mac MacPherson due to Doug Lested and VP Stephanie Terrell both unable to attend the meeting. Members attending included Mac MacPherson, John & Karen Pepe, Tony Bowker, Vic Terrell, Anne Tunnell, Jim Ottaviani, Lou Schweiger, Ken & Marleen Magers and John Alling. John lead the pledge. Mac welcomed everyone, Tony passed around the sign in sheet, there were no visitors. Mac explained that Doug was out of town and Stephanie is having plumbing problems at the house. Mac had a tour report from Stephanie, these included a recommendation to change the July tour from the 12th to the 19th. After a discussion, it was unanimously agreed to make the change. Tony will notify all members by . There was a discussion about an overnight tour early in Tony suggested Yuma, Mac suggested Joshua Tree, both sound great. The Pepe's would prefer the first weekend in February. Mac suggested we table the ideas until the next meeting. The tours for the next three months are: Saturday 19 July - Tour to Oceanside Heritage Park, meet at 9am at the Escondido Performing Arts Center, leave at 9:30am. Saturday 9 August - Tour to Camp Pendleton with BBQ lunch by the lake,, meet at 9am at the Escondido Performing Arts Center, leave at 9:30am. Saturday 13 September - Tour to Encinitas Self Realization Garden, lunch at a coastal cafe, meet at 9am at the Escondido Performing Arts Center, leave at 9:30am. Mac had a report from Diane that reported we have sufficient funds to continue operations, with a detailed report available to members. Tony asked if there were any comments on the June minutes. The minutes in the newsletter were unanimously approved. Tony spoke about the HCCA Game Day at the Del Mar Fair and the reversing exploit s of his Grandson. Mac spoke about the HCFI visit to the Orange County T club swap meet, which opened and closed early. Next day was a Book Fair at the LA Drivers Museum which resulted in a worthwhile sale of books. Marleen mentioned they had stopped by to see Larry & Cindi in Oregon. Mac mentioned that the Big 3 Swap meet has 15 spaces unsold. Mac held the Opportunity drawing and Jim won $20. Being no further business, Mac closed the meeting at 7:37pm. Respectfully submitted Tony Bowker, Secretary August 2014 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 2
Tour to Oceanside Heritage Park - 19 July Heather and I missed this one as we were recovering from the San Diego 2014 National Tour The usual gang met at the Escondido Arts center, including Vic & Stephanie Terrell, Dale & Elenor Stanfield, Doug Lested, Ray & Roy Galdi and John & Karen Pepe. The route took them up Jesmond Dene, across Gopher Canyon and on to Sleeping Indian to Oceanside. Unfortunately most of the buildings were there but closed, with the exception of one that some train lovers were working in, putting in a small gauge train. They had one small gauge set up with four controls, which they allowed anyone to run, could run all trains at the same time. While at the park Bob Millen showed up and spent time with the group. August 2014 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 3
Some the group went over to a small church built in 1890 and the first person buried there in The grounds and church are Episcopalian and the ground keeper some 97 years old but looked great. Following the tour we all split after lunch, Dale & Eleanor with the Pepe's, but the Pepe's too split at an intersection of Mission & Old River. The Pepe's stayed on Mission to Pala and Karen drove from Temecula to Escondido, and from Pala home. Only sorry we were not there but it sounded by all accounts a great tour. 5 Long Beach Model Club swap meet The 60th Annual LBMTC Swap meet was held at the Los Alamitos race course parking lot this last weekend. This year it was a one day (very long day) meet and free to buyers which saved the club many dollars and made the administration much less complex. There were over 200 vendors and the club estimated around 1000 buyers roamed around. About half the vendors had Model T parts, the rest more modern stuff or T shirts. Heather sold about half the stuff I took, more than covered my expenses which included buying an early aluminum hogs head... Heather was salesperson for the day Lots of wire wheels Each box contained Model T parts Late Tudor that would be an easy restoration August 2014 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 5
2014 MTFCA National Tour in San Diego The MTFCSD previously ran the MTFCA National Tour in 1984, 1994 and 2004 so in 2012 the Board decided to try once more in Rather than the usual back country runs of the past, our intrepid leaders, Kirt Simpson and Greg Rising decided to make it a city based event. Sure we ran out of the city up to Carlsbad and a run out to Viejas casino but these were the exceptions. We had about 50 cars signed up for the event and over 100 people at the three banquets all held at the For Points Hotel in the Kearney Mesa area. Local members on the tour included Norm & Delores Kling, Virgil & Sharon White, Tony & Heather Bowker while Mac MacPherson and Anne Tunnell were part of the organizing group and performed many valuable jobs throughout the event. Monday was my day, up to Torry Pines, Moonlight Beach and Carlsbad for lunch. On the way back we stopped at the Craftsmanship Museum, where Roy and Ray served ice cream and then down to the San Dieguto Heritage Museum. Tony & Heather outside the Hotel A 1914 and 1911 Touring at the hotel Tuesday was run down to Sa Diego Old Town for shopping and an early lunch followed by a run up Mount Soledad then a run down to Point Loma. Greg's route home included a run around Shelter Island. Wednesday was a simple run down to the Midway in downtown San Diego for ship tour and lunch. After lunch, the route took us through the Gaslamp area, Balboa Park, Mission Hills and then back to the Four Points. Thursday was Norm Kling's run out to east County with stops at the SD Mission, The Padre dam, Lakeside, Viejas for lunch, back through El Cajon and Mission valley. Friday was an exciting ride over the Coronado Bay bridge, August 2014 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 6
down through Coronado and up to the Chula Vista harbor for lunch. The afternoon took the cars out to the Olympic Training center and then all the way back across Chula Vista, National City and San Diego to Four Points for the final banquet. Heather took these going over the Coronado Bridge The first day we had six breakdowns, four were fixed that evening and from then on we had no problems at all. My touring had a "wrench free" week, probably due to all the one day tours I have taken this last year. The two remaining broken cars are scheduled to attend my barn for a little attention... Everyone seemed to have a great time and all left understanding why we call San Diego America's Finest City. TonyB August 2014 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 7
