2 Held at Charlies, Escondido Minutes for HVMTC General Meeting May 16, 2015 Attendees: Tony Bowker, Doug Lested, Mac & Diane MacPherson, John & Karen Pepe, Warren Raps, George Keener, Virgil White, Bob Millen, Vic & Stephanie Terrell, Craig & Barbara French, Ken & Merleen Magers, Lou Schweizer and Mac brought new member Kevin Bryce who owns a 26 Fordor Start Time: 7:00 PM President Doug Lested opened the meeting, Warren Raps led the Pledge of Allegiance Old Business: We need to vote on changing the bylaws to say we can separate the Vice President/President succession, as discussed at the prior installation meeting Treasurer Diane reported we had $1, in the bank and the HVMTC paid for the installation lunch, which cost $440. The minutes from the last meeting were approved. Tour Chair Stephanie noted there were no tours in July, which opened our discussion: June 20th HVMTC tour - We discussed our tour to the Antique Steam Engine Museum. Free admission for the HVMTC. Leaving the Performing Arts at 9, leaving at 9:30, with a driving tour prior to the Museum stop. Parking is reserved for all the Model Ts by the farmhouse. June 26th Model T celebration at Cruisin and Grand in Escondido, start at 4pm. June 27th The Horseless Rodeo at the Del Mar Fair was discussed at length at our prior meeting. July tours We decided to skip July s tour, first time ever! August 22nd - HVMTC tour - A tour to San Clemente through Camp Pendleton. We decided to split the group toward the end of the tour to use two gates to exit September 12th Tour beginning at Mission Bay, over the Coronado Bridge, on to Imperial Beach and lunch somewhere there. Assembly at the boat ramp at Mission Bay at 9AM October HVMTC tour TBD October 18th speedster run will be out of Ramona, CA Future 2016 tours February 5th- 8th 2016 Overnight tour to the Holtville Carrot Festival (near El Centro) through the first two weeks in February. There are museums to tour and a possible BBQ on Saturday evening, Sunday to the Carrot Festival and another museum, driving back on Monday. April, We discussed the possibility of another Death Valley tour after the Bakersfield Swap Meet, we will send out a notice to see about how many would like to go to Death Valley in Merleen won an extra ticket for guessing National Ocean Day, Diane won an extra ticket for guessing the Battle of Bunker Hill, Craig won a ticket for guessing Music Surfing month, Stephanie won for guessing National Ice Tea month, and Craig won another for World Naked Bike riding month. HVMTC Tour to Antique Gas Engine Museum June 20 Virgil & Sharon White are long time members of the Antique Gas Engine Museum and they invited us to the Museum for our June tour, which incidentally is

The model Ts belonged to John & Karen Pepe, Tony & Heather Bowker, Dale & Eleanor Stanfield, Doug & Neta Anderson, Jim & Gene Train, Kirby Pray & his brother and Greg & Cathy Rising.

Indeed Jim has no trailer, so they drove up Friday afternoon and stayed in a local motel for the night, such dedication.

His roadster is ever closer to being ready for the road again, maybe on the August tour to San Clemente.

3 HVMTC Tour to Antique Gas Engine Museum June 20 Virgil & Sharon White are long time members of the Antique Gas Engine Museum and they invited us to the Museum for our June tour, which incidentally is the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the MTFCA. We had an excellent turn out of eight Model Ts, two Model As and a motorcycle. The model Ts belonged to John & Karen Pepe, Tony & Heather Bowker, Dale & Eleanor Stanfield, Doug & Neta Anderson, Jim & Gene Train, Kirby Pray & his brother and Greg & Cathy Rising. The latter three are members of the San Diego club and we welcome them all to our events. Indeed Jim has no trailer, so they drove up Friday afternoon and stayed in a local motel for the night, such dedication. The two Model A were driven by Craig & Barbara French and Vic& Stephanie Terrell and our esteemed President was on the bike. His roadster is ever closer to being ready for the road again, maybe on the August tour to San Clemente. Diane was the start with donuts, very thoughtful and appreciated, Mac was off at a car show for the HCFI, so we had no Trouble Truck. Tony provided the route details, which were simple enough, get onto Mission and drive West and stop at the Museum. There are many, many traffic lights on Mission and it was a tough drive. Road works in Vista added to the fun...on arriving the museum with no apparent breakdowns, though I didn't see Doug's Speedster parked at the Museum, but Doug & Neta were there?? Just as we arrived, Richard Baumann pull into the line of Ts, so now we had nine Ts, is July 2015 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 3

4 this a record? Virgil welcomed us and we parked just in front of his blue Mack truck along with the Model Ts of various Museum members for a total of nearly 20 Model Ts. Impressive. There is lots to see and do at the Museum, train rides, look at Gas and Steam engines, visit the various workshops, eat lunch or just ice cream. Close to 1 pm we were invited to join in the Parade, most didn't bother as it was rather hot, but Tony & Jim joined and it was fun to drive through the spectators sitting in the shade... At about 2:30 pm, Tony rounded up the remaining Ts, like rounding up cats, though some left to take more direct routes home. About 3 pm, four Ts pulled into the Arts parking lot, only for Greg to find a problem with a trailer wheel. After changing the wheel we all departed for home, though Tony followed Jim so he could navigate the I-15 Freeway across Lake Hodges. Great day out, though Heather and I were very tired when we arrived home, I think it was the heat. 5 MTFCSD Tour to Alpine - June The community of Alpine was established towards the end of the nineteenth century and the current residents continue to honor the early settlers with a Alpine History Day. Norm is a member of the Historical society and he invited us to bring our Model Ts to help celebrate. We had five T's assemble at the Historical Auto Works in Santee and one modern. The leader was Tony & Heather in the Coupe, Greg & Cathy in the Touring. John Chapman in his Roadster, Bob Anderson in the Red Speedster, Ron & Anne Lambrecht in the Roadster and Lew Schweizer in the modern. Tony had set a slightly circuitous route to get to Alpine to make the drive worthwhile. We arrived at the appointed time (10:30) with Norm directing us to prime parking spots close to the road. While we there at the museum, Jack and Doris turned up in their 1960s VW convertible, good to see them out on a tour. There was lots going on, but Norm took all the guys to see the horse carriage the society had just restored. It really is a work of art. The name tag, almost the same as on my 1901 CDO, gave an address that was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, so it is earlier than that, personally I would have estimated late 1890s... There are two late nineteenth century houses on the site, one set up as a doctors house and the other as a museum with a collection of early cameras. Those guys would be amazed by our modern digital devices. Another display was a photographer with a complete tintype photography set up. This required two darkroom housings and a huge camera. It is a hobby of the guy and he invited the Model Ts to his home in Descanso so we can get early pictures of our cars, sounds like a good tour. July 2015 Hidden Valley Model T Club Commutator Page 5

6 Then there was a group of kids who sang ten songs from the musical Oklahoma. The performance was performed on the rear patio of the camera museum. They were quite good, all dressed to the part and excellent voices. Apparently they had been working on this production for about ten weeks and this was their sixth performance. Quite unexpected and very good. Lunch was available for a very modest charge and followed up by an ice cream sundae. Round about 2pm the T's were all cranked up and we drove back down Hwy 80 back to Lakeside. All the cars made it without any problems though Ron later complained that his high speed clutch was slipping, we'll fix it when I return from Alaska.. Good day out. 7 Riverside Swap Meet John Pepe and I spent June 13 at the Riverside Swap meet, saw lots of folks we know and I sold a lot of stuff. In general there was not to much T stuff, which was good for me, but John had a great time looking at the V8 speed stuff. There was some T speed stuff, Mark Chaffin was there with his overheads and an assortment of T parts hidden on a good second look. I purchased 50 almost new wood spokes for 21and 30 inch wheels.
