Warwickshire Police Warwick Central Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) January 2016 Chase Meadow Emscote - Heathcote - The Forbes Estate The Packmores The Percy Estate - The Woodloes Warwick Gates Warwick Town INCIDENT OVERVIEW Incidents recorded for the Warwick Central Safer Neighbourhood Team for December 2015: INCIDENT TYPE: DECEMBER 2015 DECEMBER 2014 NOVEMBER 2015 ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR BURGLARY DWELLING (HOUSES) BURGLARY OTHER (OUT BUILDINGS INCLUDING COMMERCIAL PREMISES) CRIMINAL DAMAGE THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE (TFMV) THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE VIOLENCE * FIGURES CORRECT AS OF MONDAY 4 TH JANUARY 2016 CRIME OVERVIEW This section looks at the crimes of public interest that have occurred on the Warwick Central Safer Neighbourhood Team policing area, crimes such as burglary, theft, auto crime and criminal damage: Below is a very brief overview of the types of incidents that have been reported to us. BURGLARIES: Domestic burglaries up a touch this month. Although it should now be getting lighter in the evenings, don t forget, a house in darkness is far more attractive to wannabe burglars, than one with lights and sounds coming from it. Remember timer switches, not just lights, but also perhaps the radio, or anything that gives the impression someone is at home. Give your house, that homely lived in feeling and make those burglars think twice. AUTOCRIME: Thefts from motor vehicles fairly static this month, but a big portion of that number had been left in the car park of a local hotel chain. In every occasion they were commercial vans, and it was tools that were the target. Remember, car parks are profitable hunting grounds for offenders, so NEVER EVER leave valuables, especially tools in your car/van. Try and park in a well lit area, close to CCTV, and preferably overlooked. If you value it remove it!

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR: A mixed bag of calls this month relating to Anti Social Behaviour (ASB). Recently we have seen quite a few calls to the parade of shops on Chase Meadow, regarding youths loitering and being a general nuisance. A couple of calls to the bowling alley on Tachbrook Park Drive involving youths hanging around, and causing a general nuisance. Neighbour disputes still make up a good number of the ASB type calls we receive. CRIMINAL DAMAGE: The main issues this month relates to damage to vehicles. There is no real pattern to when and where these have happened, but tyres being let down, and being scratched covers most of the calls to us. A few calls also this month regarding a couple of properties having super glue poured into the door locks. THEFTS: Shoplifting continues to be an issue across Warwick, along with drive offs from the various petrol stations, as well as cycles make up nearly all of the theft jobs reported to us this month, INCIDENTS & ISSUES IN YOUR LOCAL AREA. Below is a brief selection of some of the incidents that have occurred across the area, ward by ward.. **Please note that our system doesn t yet acknowledge the boundary changes that came into affect at the recent Council Elections in May 2015** WARWICK NORTH WARD: The premier issue this month has been thefts from a well-known hotel chain in the area. The team have been trying to work with staff in terms of crime prevention and advising their clients not to leave valuables inside and unattended. Regular patrols of the area are still ongoing, however, numbers of commercial vans are still being targeted whilst left overnight in the car park. Properties in the north of Warwick have seen more Burglaries than other areas this month. WARWICK SOUTH WARD: Op Christmas Presence continued over the Christmas period with the team carrying out Hi Viz and covert patrols engaging with local shops and stores at various times of the day and night. WARWICK WEST WARD: Parking is becoming an issue around Eastley Crescent and Wilmhurst Road. This appears to be an overspill from some of the larger businesses along Haywood Lane where workers are parking/abandoning their vehicles for the day, and in turn causing a real nuisance and at times, obstructions for local residents. In terms of ASB, we have had a few further calls regarding begging outside the shops at St Johns, and also youths parking up in Barrack St Car Park, playing loud music and whizzing up and down the ramps.

If you have any information about these, or any other incidents, then please get in to touch as soon as possible on the contact numbers shown on Page 7. APPEALS, NEWS & UPDATES RE-APPEAL FOR MISSING WARWICKSHIRE MAN - MARTYN BRADSHAW Warwickshire Police have issued a re-appeal for information to help find missing Martyn Bradshaw. The 65-year-old was reported missing on Wednesday 21 October 2015 around 2:30pm, but it is believed that he has been missing from his home in Guys Cliffe Avenue, Leamington Spa since Wednesday 9 September Martyn is described as white, of a slim build with grey receding hair. It is not known what he was wearing at the time of leaving his home. He has links to the Kenilworth area. His brother is concerned for his well-being. If you have seen Martyn, or know of his whereabouts, contact police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on Introduction by Assistant Chief Constable Amanda BLAKEMAN. We are aware that acquisitive crime, including burglary, robbery and theft harms our communities. A person's home and possessions often carry an emotional attachment and when a criminal interferes with this, it can have a long-lasting impact on victims. Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police are committed to protecting people from these crimes. 'We Don't Buy Crime' demonstrates this commitment, by taking an innovative approach to reducing and disrupting the market for stolen goods and protecting your home and possessions by making them less attractive to the would-be criminal. Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police are committed to our vision of protecting people from harm. We want to prevent crime from happening in the first place, but when it does happen we want to ensure that we respond to it by providing the victim with a professional and high quality service, seeking to prevent people from falling victim again. 'We Don't Buy Crime' is tailored to achieve this. We are forming partnerships with local businesses and communities with a common goal of reducing crime. We are working with a local business, SmartWater, to make use of the latest technologies to fight crime. Together, we have created the UK's: First second-hand goods traders database, where every trader in second-hand goods adopts best practice in the retail of such goods and commits to working with local police to tackle crime. 'We Don't Buy Crime' towns and villages, where every residential property has the opportunity to mark their possessions with SmartWater free of charge. By working together, we will make our communities a safer place to live in.

If you require any further assistance or information do not hesitate to contact your Safer Neighbourhood Team. If you have information about a crime, phone the police on 101 or anonymously contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH UPDATES We are really pleased that people are still getting in touch and asking to be added to our monthly newsletter distribution list, and for crime updates. Neighbourhood Watch is a valuable tool for both ourselves and residents alike, as a two way means of sharing information. With a quick , we can reach hundreds of households and make them aware of incidents that have taken place in their community. Please contact us on if you need any further information or by ing. wrc.snt@warwickshire.police.uk. INFORMATION AND ADVICE Reporting Suspicious Behaviour - A lot of the incidents we respond to, are calls from members of the public, reporting suspicious behaviour. In the current climate, with the heightened risk of terrorism, it is important that we are all extra vigilant and report ANYTHING that doesn t look quite right, or out of place. If you see someone in your street who maybe behaving strangely of suspiciously, then please let us know. It may not seem much to you, but to the Police, this could be the final piece of a much bigger jigsaw. Always use 999 if that person is in the act of committing crime. Always try and get as much detail about the suspect as possible, as sometimes the smallest detail can help ID the potential offender. Have you seen a vehicle, which doesn t look quiet right? Has it not moved for sometime, or has it been left in a strange place that you wouldn t expect it to be left. Do you regularly see it driving past the same place for no apparent reason? If the answer is YES then please give us a call and let us know. Again, please be as descriptive as possible. I.E. number of occupants and their descriptions, make, model, colour and any other distinguishing marks. The most important thing we always require is the vehicle registration mark (VRM).

Winter Driving. With the current mild weather unlikely to continue to last much longer, it s worth making sure your car is Winter Ready Make sure all your cars fluid levels are OK Oil, Coolant, and Window Wiper Solution. Try and keep the fuel tank full. Ensure the tyres are correctly inflated, and make sure the spare is in good working order. Keep supplies in the car if traveling any distance. Drinks and snacks. Make sure your mobile phone has sufficient battery, or have a car charger. Make sure you have a blanket and adequate clothing. Consider an Emergency kit, with things such as spade/shovel, first aid kit, torch, deicer, windows scraper, Hi-Viz vest, and jump leads. Have your route planned before leaving, and also a back up route in case of delays and/or road closures. 6 GOOD NEWS STORIES Sergeant Chris Kitson has joined the SNT as the replacement for Sgt Dave Kettle who is now an Inspector on a patrol team in Bedworth. PCSO Suzanne VINE has left the team and has been replaced by PCSO Analeyse KIRWAN who moves across the office from the Warwick Rural West SNT. A drugs warrant was executed at an address on Kempton Drive. Paraphernalia seized and enquiries continue. A vehicle was stopped and searched close to the scene of the drugs warrant a few days later, and valuable Intel gained. A vehicle being used by some local car crime offenders was stopped and seized following an ANPR activation in the north of the County. The vehicle was uninsured, untaxed, no MOT and driven by a guy who doesn t currently hold a driving licence. A Drink Drive and vehicle check campaign took place on two separate nights in December, one on Myton Road in Warwick, and the other one on the Old Warwick Road in Lapworth. Over the two evening nearly 200 vehicles were stopped. There were no positive breath tests, but one car was searched on suspicion of drugs, and dozens of motorists warned and advised about missing light bulbs and broken indicators. A local male was arrested after being wanted on Warrant. He was spotted by one of the local team and arrested just around the corner. MEETINGS & EVENTS The diary is looking fairly quiet so far this month.
