I didn t search the newspapers for news stories this month as there have been some monumental events occurring with the decision to leave the European Union at the recent referendum. Everyone has their own equally valid opinion about the rights and wrongs of the result, I would like to concentrate on the recent spate of reports in the media of an increase of hate crimes. Rushmoor has a very diverse community it has residents with origins from the four corners of the globe. The News has highlighted a number of race related attacks on people including children of both European and Non-European backgrounds. I am pleased to report that in Hampshire reported hate crime has not increased significantly. For an offence to be racially aggravated the requirement is that at the time of committing the offence or immediately before the offence the offender demonstrates towards the victim of the offence hostility based on the victim's membership (or presumed membership) of a racial or religious group OR the offence is motivated by hostility towards members of a racial or religious group based on their membership of that group. All hate offences will be investigated robustly. The Neighbourhood team has always been tasked to investigate all hate crimes including crimes related to race. We will continue to do this and will deal robustly with any complaint or offender. The 50th Farnborough International Airshow is due to take place, at TAG Farnborough Airport, between July The event is organised by Farnborough International Limited, between 11 and 15 July is principally a trade event to conduct aerospace business. The weekend, 16 & 17 July, are aimed at the public with an Air Show flown each day although planes will fly all week and the event draws huge numbers of visitors. The Airshow can have a significant impact on the residents of Farnborough as diversions and road closures will once again be evident. Please keep an eye on local newspapers which will detail road closures and any diversions. The investigation into the fatal plane crash at Shoreham will have a significant impact on this year s event. It identified a number of safety recommendations, all of which have been implemented by this year s show organisers. As a consequence acrobatics WILL NOT take place over built up areas as is usual so some spectators and sudden plane noise might not be where you would expect it. As always please take extra care during this period both as a pedestrian and as a driver, it is very tempting to stare at the traffic in the sky as opposed to traffic on the roads. Fingers crossed the weather will have improved from the current mixed bag! The ward hasn t suffered any burglaries across June, which, is very positive news as they are still occurring in the Farnborough area in general. Pinehurst carpark has recently had a few reports of youths causing damage to motor vehicles parked during the day. Please ensure if you have had any damage caused to your vehicle, you report it as soon as possible so that Police can investigate it effectively. As detailed above. Farnborough Gate Retail Park. We are still carrying out regular patrols and working with the local businesses, to deal with the anti-social behaviour. Orchard Road. The Empress ward Neighbourhood Policing Team, with the assistance of other members of the Farnborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, and Rushmoor Borough Council. Have closed a property in Orchard Road, this was due to an excessive amount of anti-social behaviour. This could have not been done without the help and co-operation of the residents in the road.

Burglary We have unfortunately had a spate of burglaries across Farnborough this month.

Between 11 June at 13:00 and 12 June at 23:59, a handbag was stolen from a property down Bracklesham road, and this is believed to have been done while the front door to the property was left open.

Entry was gained via the front door of both properties, and in both cases the door was not completely locked. if this is possible.

On the 18 June there was a robbery reported down Austen Road. This occurred between 17:00-18:00, and involved an elderly male getting punched in the face and having his wallet stolen. Were you in the area at the time? Did you see a male riding a black mountain bike with a red CEX bag? If so, or if you have any information in relation to this, please call 101 quoting incident number Burglary We have unfortunately had a spate of burglaries across Farnborough this month. On 11 June between 00:00 and 13:30 a property down Austen road was entered via unlocked patio doors and handbags and jewellery were stolen. Between 11 June at 13:00 and 12 June at 23:59, a handbag was stolen from a property down Bracklesham road, and this is believed to have been done while the front door to the property was left open. Overnight on 15 June there was two incidents down Holywell Close, which occurred between 00:00 and 04:00. Entry was gained via the front door of both properties, and in both cases the door was not completely locked. if this is possible. These people are opportunists, don t give them the opportunity to enter your property by leaving it insecure. Vehicle crime As mentioned in the summary, we have had no reported tool thefts from vans this month. There was one reported incident where items were stolen from a vehicle overnight down Ballantyne Road. A gym bag was stolen between 01 June 19:00 and 02 June 08:15. Please do not leave items in vehicles and also consider marking items to increase the likelihood of them being traced and register your items for free at Speed Watch 06/06/2016 Sandy Lane: Total vehicles checked 216, 19 were found to be exceeding the enforcement speed 22/06/2016 Chapel Lane: Total vehicles checked 186, 3 were found to be exceeding the enforcement speed Don t forget beat forums are held with police and local councillors on the first Saturday of every month between at the Fox pub, Chapel Lane for you to come and ask questions about issues that are affecting you Finally, another incident occurred overnight on 22 June between 23:00 and 07:15 on 23 June down Greatfield Close, where entry was gained via an insecure front or back door and items were taken from the property. There are no scheduled events for July Beat Priorities Theft of Cycles. This month there has been one theft of cycle in Farnborough South. We ask that you keep a good picture of your bike, including a clear image of the serial number of it, which can also be uploaded to Immobilise to help it be returned to you if we find it. Speed Watch continues to monitor speeds along targeted roads. We are looking for new Speedwatch volunteers, so if you feel you could spare a few hours a month and would like to join a team to help tackle local issues of speeding, please get in contact with PC Lee Jeffers via lee.jeffers@hampshire.pnn.police.uk Burglaries. This month there have been 2 dwelling burglaries and 2 other than a dwelling burglary in the Farnborough South area. These offenders have been gaining entry into the homes by using a tool to pry open UVPC doors and windows to gain entry to the premises, as well as smashing windows to gain entry. These have been occurring during the early hours of the morning. We ask that you double lock all UVPC doors when you are not at home, even when

5 FARNBOROUGH WEST (Cove & Southwood Ward, St John s Ward & West Heath Wards) Your SNT team are: PC Lee Jeffers PC Neil Prescott PCSO Lisa Atwood PCSO Michelle Curtis Since the last newsletter, the Farnborough West team have held their first community panel at the council offices in Farnborough on 16th June We were joined by volunteers from across neighbourhood watch along with a councillor from each ward. We used the results of the recent survey monkey sent out and these, along with the ASB and crime stats, were put forward to the panel to discuss our priorities for the next three months. It was decided that two of the priorities should be enveloped into new priorities, these being neighbourhood watch and ASB in Montgomery Road. The other priority set for the team to work on was vehicle nuisance on the West Heath ward. The statistics showed that there has been quite a few reports of vehicle nuisance on and around the West Heath area and so the team will now focus on these new priorities. The old priority for damage & drug misuse in St John s Churchyard has been closed down as there have been no further incidents. New beat priorities are updated below. Other news Dwelling Breaks. Since the last newsletter there have been four dwelling burglaries in the Farnborough West area. Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity on 101. We would always advise residents to secure their properties effectively. We would also suggest that now the nicer weather is here that residents secure doors/windows when inside of the address. People tend to leave doors open/unlocked in the nicer weather and then spend time in the garden which makes it easy for the opportunistic burglar. Also in the nicer weather people tend to leave the windows open whilst they pop out quickly. Please remember, when you pop out it s just as easy for burglar to pop in if you have left your property insecure. Theft from vehicles. Four reported this month and so we are still reminding people to lock their vehicles and remove valuables. Some of these vehicles were left unlocked overnight. Beat Priorities Reduce community concerns / fears of burglary. The aim of this priority is to develop our communication networks with our community via Neighbourhood Watch and Hants Alert and to share crime prevention advice and current crime information in an attempt to reduce the fear of burglary. We are currently transferring all of our NHW co-ordinators onto the Hampshire Alerts messaging system as this is now the method of getting crime alerts out to members. Efforts are also being made to add further schemes Tackle/reduce Anti-Social Behaviour in the St. Christopher s area. The locations identified in this area being Cody Road, Montgomery Road and Cove Road. In the last month, we have continued with the patrols in Montgomery Road and have received no complaints of anti-social behaviour in this area. Tackle/reduce vehicle nuisance on West Heath ward. There have been 8 reported incidents of vehicle nuisance in this area. One offender has been caught and is currently being investigated for his reckless driving. Speedwatch. On 20th June 2016, SpeedWatch checked the speed of 522 vehicles on Southwood Road and recorded the details of 9 vehicles travelling above the enforcement speed. At the community Panel meeting on 16th June 2016, it was decided that the new SpeedWatch location for Farnborough West, would be Fleet Road and Fernhill Road. However, Fernhill Road will be pending a site review by the Hampshire Traffic Management office as this road is currently enforced by the mobile camera unit. Your Neighbourhood Policing Team will be holding the following surgeries each month: 1st Saturday each month, 1000 hrs to midday in the restaurant at The Plough & Horses, Fleet Road, Farnborough.

The team have conducted a number of plain clothes operations in the area. Residents were advised to be more vigilant and to secure their property when out and about and lock doors and windows properly with the key. Our proactive approach towards the issue appears to have contributed to the decrease in such incidents occurring. We continue to urge residents to contact police on 101 if you witness suspicious activity. When leaving your car, close all windows and lock your car. Don t leave anything on display in your vehicle. Mon 11 th July Sun 17 th July Priorities Street Drinking in the Town Centre. Local officers have been dealing robustly with the street drinkers in town centre. Over the past month, x2 of the towns well known street drinkers have been housed. Union Street has been clear of any homeless persons outside shop doorways over this period. The team will continue dealing with any ASB robustly and work with partner agencies to tackle any future problems in the town. Purse Thefts. 2 males charged with Theft and fraud having stolen an elderly female s purse and obtained money using her pension card. One of the males pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 weeks imprisonment. The other male is on remand and awaits trial.

We have dealt with the following issues: 1. There have been two traveller sites that have been moved on 2. PCSO Blanchard has been working with local schools running Police Apprentice this scheme aims to allow children to educate their peers regarding crime prevention topics that are relevant to them. 3. PCSOs have assisted with Think Safe a local authority initiative that raises childrens awareness to danger in a variety of situations. 4. PCSOs have assisted with a number of school fetes and have enjoyed meeting members of the local community. Crime We are very pleased to report a dramatic drop in vehicle crime this month. Now that the weather is finally getting warmer and the holiday season is coming we would like to remind you of the following: * Keep ground floor or accessible windows shut and locked in rooms you are not using. * Don t leave doors and patios doors open. * Remember to lock up properly before going to bed. * Remember insurance companies often will not pay out if a burglary is a result of an insecurity. * If you are taking the opportunity to do some DIY to the house, don t leave ladders and tools out. Keep them locked up. * Make sure you lock side or rear gates into your garden. * Do not do business at the door. Often companies who tout at the door for gardening and home improvements turn out to be bogus. * If you are in the back garden having a barbeque party, don t be tempted to leave the front door open for your visitors to let themselves in. * If you are going out for the evening remember to use a timer switch on a lamp or radio to give the impression someone is home. * Hot weather is a good opportunity to get out cycling. Remember to lock your bike using a "Sold Secure" D lock even if leaving for a couple of minutes. * Remember to shut car windows and sunroofs even if parked on your drive. * If you are in the back garden, don t be tempted to leave doors and accessible windows open at the front of the house. * If you are working in the front garden, remember not to leave expensive power tools lying around, even if just for a couple of minutes. * Scrap metal has a high value, be careful leaving barbeques in the front garden, they may be taken. * Check the security of sheds and garages and make sure it is adequate. * Whilst working on the garden, make sure you check boundary fences and walls to ensure they are in good order. * Take the hot weather as an opportunity to ensure garden statues are appropriately anchored and padlock hanging baskets to their support.
