Welcome and Introductions Local ward Councillor Stan Heptinstall (SH) welcomed everyone to the 40 th Bramcote CAT meeting. SH acknowledged the recent death of local resident Janice Oldham and a short silence was observed as a mark of respect. 2. Update on previous actions Issue Responsibility Action Eastcote Avenue Graffiti on phone boxes SH This has been reported. 4. Police The previous minutes were agreed as a true and accurate record. PC Karl Barlow (KB), Notts Police, Safer Neighbourhoods Officer informed the meeting as follows: There will be restructure of Notts Police, there are currently 4 divisions which will be reduced to only 2, one for the city and one for the county. Local officers will be retained and will continue their duties locally. Police and partners will 1/7

2 continue to deliver high-visibility policing across Nottinghamshire and will deploy the right officers in the right place at the right time and in the right number. In order to allow uniformed officers to be more visible and to spend more time on patrol they are issued with Blackberry phones, see contact details below for your local Bramcote officers. The following crime figures were reported: Description Previous Qtr This Qtr (07/09 28/11) (29/11 07/03) ASB Burglary 7 16 Auto crime Criminal Damage Theft 8 4 Robbery 1 1 Violence 8 4 Bramcote Figures Year to date: Burglary up 2.44% (up 1 incident) Autocrime down 15.25% (down 9 incidents) Criminal Damage up 9.09% (up 4 incidents) Theft down 27.45% (down 14 incidents) Robbery down 25% (down 2 incidents) Violence down 34.15% (down 14 incidents) Total crimes down 24 incidents Burglary due to insecurity is on the increase and accounts for a high percentage of the burglaries being committed. Advice is to lock your doors even when you are at home, do not leave keys in door locks and do not leave them on view within your home. If you have garden spades please try to keep these within your home not in outbuildings particularly sheds, they are used by criminals to force entry during burglaries. KB encouraged vigilance and advised attendees to contact the Police as soon as possible if they witness suspicious activity. KB advised those present that Neighbourhood Priority Surveys can now be done on-line at and that up to date crime information can be found on the Neighbourhood Alert system at KB apologised for missing his last beat surgery, this was due to illness, he then took questions. The Census 2011 John Busuttil advised the meeting as follows: The Census of England and Wales will take place on 27 th March 2011, the information obtained provides the government with a profile of the population including age, employment, transport, housing and health and helps to inform how millions of s of funding is distributed. From 6 th April 2011 JB will be responsible for 15 collectors who will be working in the following areas Bramcote, Stapleford, Nuthall, Cossall, and Trowell, they will call at households which have not returned a completed questionnaire. Collectors will have identification cards with their name and photograph on, if householders are in any doubt about callers at their home they should ask to see identification and if still in doubt should call the police Non-completion of the census questionnaire can result in a fine of 1,000 enforcement of non-completion will commence during May The questionnaire can be completed on-line or on the hard copy form delivered to your home and should take approximately 10 minutes for an individual or minutes for a family. JB then took questions 6. Launch of the Bramcote Today website SH gave the following background information: After Kevin Powell, Head of ICT and Corporate Services at Broxtowe Borough Council met with William Perrin, Founder and Director of Talk to Us approximately four months ago it was agreed that a community website would benefit residents of the borough and due to the social capital which exists within Bramcote it was felt that this would be a suitable area in which to set up a site. In order to inform residents of the value of community websites and to gauge interest KP and WP gave a presentation to the Bramcote CAT meeting on Those expressing an interest attended a training session held at Broxtowe Borough Council and the editorial team are now ready to launch the Bramcote Today community website at tonight s meeting. 3/7

4 SH acknowledged the hard work put in by all those involved and in particular the volunteer editorial team: Sue Sambells Mike Johnson Steve Austin and Paddy Riley each of whom went on to give a presentation about the site, its content and how to use it. Silver Surfers in Bramcote For those wanting to learn how to use the internet an internet café called Silver Surfers in Bramcote will be starting in May It will be held at St Michael s Church Centre on Thursday afternoons between 1pm 3pm commencing on Thursday 19 th May 2011 Could those interested in attending please contact Anne Curnock on as this will help with delivery of the sessions, thank you Broxtowe Warmzone Alison Mouncy, Broxtowe Warmzone advised those present that this scheme is offering home insulation within Broxtowe Borough. Letters will be sent out to all home owners and private tenants after which surveying of properties will commence. Under the scheme, which is part-funded by Broxtowe Borough Council, those over the age of 55 can receive loft and cavity wall insulation free, those under 55 are being offered insulation from 99. Warmzone will be working in the Bramcote area next week, their representatives wear red jackets and do not engage in cold-calling. Bramcote CAT 10 years on At this the 40 th Bramcote CAT meeting and therefore its 10 year anniversary SH outlined the following achievements: Bramcote Hills Park Green Flag status Bramcote Ridge Green Pennant status A52 - Bus Lane Sandy Lane - bridleway Thoresby Road pedestrian crossing Cow Lane traffic calming Speed signs Ilkeston Road, Derby Road, Wollaton Road, Coventry Lane 4/7

5 The Hemlock Happening There are many more and the progress continues as shown by tonight s launch of the Bramcote Today community website. SH thanked the residents of Bramcote for their involvement. 8. Hillside Road accident SH informed the meeting of a traffic accident on Hillside Road which resulted in a car overturning whilst travelling downhill from Beeston towards Cow Lane. There is concern amongst local residents about speeding along Hillside Road and police have been monitoring motorists. In addition speed monitors have been placed by the council to collect data which will be analysed in order to inform any subsequent action taken. A lively discussion followed during which ideas, opinions and strong feelings were voiced. KB advised those present that if they have details of offenders they should pass these to him, KB also advised those who feel speeding traffic is an issue at this location to submit a police Neighbourhood Priority Survey (see Item 4) To conclude, the general feeling was that Notts County Council should be assessing the risk of a fatal accident occurring on Hillside Road 9. Residents Issues Bramcote Golf Course Fencing has been restored to perimeter of car park and bollards have been installed Church Street Single and double decker school buses are being driven along Church Street ACTION Residents to pass information to SH who will report it Moor Lane Why is there no audible signal on the crossing on Derby Road at Moor Lane? ACTION SH to look into this and report back A52 Verges between Bardills and Bramcote Island are very badly littered and have been for some time there are also unlit lighting columns which have been unlit for approx 2 years, can something be done? ACTION SH to invite Jeremy Dixon from A1 plus to the next meeting Potholes in roads An attendee informed the meeting that a national newspaper had identified Deddington Lane as a pot-hole black spot. SH advised that the Government have made extra money available for road surface repairs. Some of this will be allocated to Nottinghamshire and hopefully in turn to Bramcote. ACTION Residents were asked to report specific locations to Cllr David Watts, Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council 5/7

6 Hillside Road, Cow Lane and Derby Road - These locations badly littered particularly near the post box at bottom of Cow Lane which was suggested as a suitable site for a litter bin. ACTION SH to report this to Paul Summers, Head of Environment, Broxtowe Borough Council Bramcote Conservation Society - Peter Hillier advised the meeting that the society is celebrating it s 40 th anniversary during 2011, information leaflets about the society were available at the meeting. Also there is a 60s and 70s Party Night featuring live music which is being held at Beeston Youth and Community Centre, West End, Beeston on 12 th March 2011 at 7pm. Tickets cost 10 each which includes a buffet and all proceeds will go to the tower restoration, leaflets were available for those interested. 10.
