3 speakers A world class line up of speakers is included in the program Official Opening Dan Perkins, National President As National President of Master Builders Australia and Managing Director of a leading commercial building firm, Dan is one of our industry s foremost leaders. As President he is leading Master Builders through strategic and transformational change that will ensure the organisation is an even more effective voice for our 32,000 members to support their business success. He has over a decade s experience providing high level leadership and governance to Master Builders Western Australia on its Council of Management (including as President ) and on Master Builders Australia s Board where he previously served as Chair of the Training (VET) Committee and Deputy President. Dan is Managing Director of Perkins Builders, a commercial construction company which over 50 years of operation has built a reputation for high-quality construction on a diverse range of projects. Dan is also Managing Director of Commercial Aquatics Australia which specialises in the design and construction of aquatic facilities nationwide and Director of Perkins Total Project Delivery (TPD), a commercial construction company offering sophisticated design and project management skills on unique projects. Opening Keynote Speaker Anna Meares OAM Success and the power of the mind over the body An inspirational speaker Anna became the first Australian Athlete to ever win four medals at four different Olympic Games. An accomplished speaker, Anna talks about success and the power of the mind over the body. Success is not about staying un-defeated she says It s about how you handle defeat - that s what makes a true champion on the track and in business. Over the years Anna has collected 44 medals at Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games levels. Anna was honoured to be flagbearer and Team captain at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Anna overcame major life-threatening trauma to realise her dream. She experienced a career-stopping heavy fall during a time trial at the World Cup in Los Angeles in January 2008, less than eight months out from the Beijing Olympic Games.

4 speakers Will Hodgman, Premier of Tasmania Welcome and keynote address Will Hodgman is Tasmania s 45th Premier. Will was born and educated in Hobart, Tasmania. He graduated in Arts and Law at the University of Tasmania in 1993 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in In 1995, Will worked in the United Kingdom with the Wiltshire County Council, prosecuting cases of child abuse and neglect. In 2002, Will was elected as a Liberal Member for Franklin in the Tasmanian House of Assembly and was appointed Deputy Leader of the Opposition. In March 2006, Will became Leader of the Liberal Party and the State Opposition. At the 2014 State Election, Will led the Liberal Party to Government, securing the largest majority for any Government since the 25 member Parliament was established in Will was sworn in as Tasmania s forty-fifth Premier on March 31st 2014 and is Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Sport and Recreation and Aboriginal Affairs. Will serves as a member or patron of numerous sporting and community organisations. Will is married to Nicky, and they have three children; William, James and Lily. Mike Pivac Game changing innovation and technology In this session delegates will learn first-hand from the creator and engineer of some of the most exciting and innovative technology directly affecting our industry. Mike Pivac, the Managing Director of Fastbrick Robotics. Fastbrick Robotics is an Australian pioneering technology driven company introducing 3D innovation to the construction industry. The new revolutionary commercial bricklaying machine, Hadrian X, set to transform the construction industry with innovative 3D printing technology.

5 speakers Matt Haymes, Sales Director, Haymes Paint Rising to the Challenges Having grown up with paint in his veins, it was an easy choice for Matt to join the family business to become the fourth generation Haymes to carry on the legacy. Born in Ballarat in 1935, Haymes Paint is driven to bring new and better products to market, ensuring customers will always have the best. Denita Wawn, CEO, Master Builders Australia Advancing Women in Construction Breakfast Guest Speaker Denita is one of Australia s leading industry and business advocates and the first female CEO of Master Builders is its 127 years history. Denita s has a wealth of experience from more than 20 years at the forefront of public policy advocacy and politics. From Denita was CEO of the Brewers Association of Australia and New Zealand where her duties included representing the interests of multinational companies to federal and state policy makers and regulators. Her acheivements included a highly successful reputational change strategy for the organisation at a national and international levels. For more than a decade s Denita led industrial relations policy and advocacy for major industries as General Manager Workplace & Corporate Relations at the National Farmers Federation (NFF) and as National Manager Workplace Relations at the Australian Hotels Associations (AHA). She also served as Executive Director of the AHA s Tasmanian Branch. Denita s corporate governance experience includes roles as Chair of the Worldwide Brewers Alliance and the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code (ABAC) Scheme and as director of Hostplus industry superannuation fund. Denita was born and educated in Hobart, Tasmania, undertaking a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Tasmania. Peter Davidson Succeeding in a high risk environment Paramedic Peter Davidson was a hero of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in 1998 in which 6 people died. Peter was lowered into enormous seas to rescue eight survivors from the sinking yacht, Standaside in one of the worst maritime disasters in Australia s history, the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in the midst of some of the worst conditions in sailing history. A powerful and moving story of what ordinary, well-trained and motivated people can achieve. Peter s story reinforces the attributes of leadership, vision, adapting to a changing environment, managing risk, persistence and determination. Sandra Sully National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards Host Sandra is the co-presenter of TEN Eyewitness News First At Five Sydney. With more than 25 years the network in 2015, Sandra is one of the most recognisable and respected faces on Australian television. Sandra has also hosted major Network news events including the Federal Budget, the Royal Wedding coverage from London and Oprah Winfrey s Big O event at the Botanical Gardens. She also co-hosted TEN s interactive, real-life crime series Wanted. Sandra s career includes 18 years as the highly popular Presenter and Senior Editor of TEN Late News with Sports Tonight. In that role, Sandra was the first Australian journalist to break the news of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States. Sandra s engaging warmth, style and versatility have enabled her to cover numerous events such as Commonwealth and Olympic Games, as well as becoming the first woman to cohost the iconic Melbourne Cup/Spring Carnival, a role she filled for seven years. Sandra is a passionate sports fan and sits on the Board of Hockey Australia. Sandra is an Ambassador for National Adoption Awareness and, as well as being committed to several charity organisations. Sandra s passion for news has fortified her position as one of the finest newsreaders in the country, delivering TEN Eyewitness News First At Five bulletins with integrity and credibility.

Delegates will take in the sights of sandstone warehouses along Salamanca Place, Parliament House, the quaint cottages and Georgian Houses and the landmark St Georges Church at Battery Point before enjoying an exclusive private tour of two of Hobart s historical homes Narryna and Markee as well as the iconic 150-year-old Hobart Town Hall.

8 social events & tours Delegates Tour Option 2 Cascade Brewery Tour Friday 24 November, Cascade Brewery was established in 1832 in and is the oldest continually operating brewery in Australia. The Brewery Tour steps back through Cascade s proud history then takes you behind the sandstone facade to view the workings of this unique brewery. Here we explain the ingredients and craft behind our beers. Please note, the Brewery Tour enters a working production facility, it is for over 16s only and it is a safety requirement that all guests wear the appropriate clothing and have not consumed alcohol prior to the Tour. All skin must be covered from the waist down. Enclosed, flat shoes must be worn and no loose jewellery is permitted. Delegates Tour Option 3 Construction Site Parliament Square Redevelopment Friday 24 November, Parliament Square is an exciting redevelopment of an entire city block bounded by Davey Street, Salamanca Place, Parliament Lane and Murray Street. Designed by award-winning architects FJMT, in consultation with renowned heritage architects Design 5, the project will be developed in multiple stages at a total cost exceeding $150 million. It is due for completion in the last quarter of Stage 1 of the project involves two parts, the Salamanca Office Building and the Heritage Buildings (34 West and 36 Davey Street). The new Salamanca Building has a basement and eleven office levels. The sandstone buildings at 34West and 36 Davey Street have been restored for re-use as part of a new hotel at the same time as the new office building has been constructed. The hotel will occupy these buildings as well as 34 Davey Street and a part of the site on Murray Street. Parliament Square redevelopment is a multi-use site which will include public open spaces, hospitality and retail. The final stage of the project involves the construction of the hotel, a multi-level below ground car park and an extensive plaza linking the Murray Street to Salamanca Place.

The National Awards are the pinnacle of the Excellence in Building and Construction Awards conducted in each State and Territory which culminates in the best of the best at the national level.
