1 Norther Coector The North-South Corridor is idetified i the followig strategies as oe of Adelaide s most importat trasport corridors - the South Australia Plaig Strategy icludig the 30 Year Pla for Greater Adelaide, the Strategic Ifrastructure Pla for SA ad the Itegrated Trasport ad Lad Use Pla. It will be the major route for orth ad south boud traffic, icludig freight vehicles, ruig betwee Gawler ad Old Noarluga, a distace of 78 kilometres. The $885 millio Norther Coector will be a six-lae, 15.5 kilometre motorway providig a vital freight ad commuter lik betwee the Norther Expressway, South Road Superway ad Port River Expressway. This project will focus o deliverig ecoomic beefits to the local South Australia commuity icludig creatig 480 full-time equivalet jobs each year durig costructio. The Australia Govermet has committed $708 millio to the project, with $177 millio from the South Australia Govermet. The project is scheduled for completio i late Providig a Uimpeded Jourey from: Gawler to Regecy Park (a total of 43 kilometres, via the Norther Expressway ad South Road Superway). Gawler to Port Adelaide (a total of 40 kilometres, via the Norther Expressway ad Port River Expressway). The motorway will serve as a ew atioal road lik to provide better coectio betwee Adelaide, the Port of Adelaide, the orther suburbs ad beyod (icudig the mid-orth, Barossa Valley ad the Riverlad) ad will support regioal growth ad ecoomic sustaiability, more efficiet road travel ad improved safety. Cocrete for the pavemet is beig made o site at the purposebuilt cocrete batch plat from 100% South Australia cemet ad quarry materials. Durig peak productio, the plat will produce up to 1500 cubic meters of cocrete per day, supportig a extra 40 jobs. The pavemet is costructed i two layers, ad is 420 millimetres thick, resultig i a high-quality cocrete surface, with low ogoig maiteace costs. The Norther Coector Project remais o track for completio i late Norther Iterchage Major Traffic Switch I early 2019, a major traffic switch was required o Port Wakefield Road ear the Norther Expressway, to eable works to cotiue for the costructio of the Norther Iterchage. Northboud traffic o Port Wakefield Road betwee Rya ad Old Port Wakefield Roads was diverted to the southboud carriageway. Two laes i each directio will be maitaied, with speeds maitaied to a posted speed limit of 60 km/h for the remaider of costructio. Waterloo Corer Iterchage The overpass at the Waterloo Corer Iterchage, will be commissioed i early 2019 to eable the permaet closure of St Kilda Road ad provide the ew access to Robiso Road. The early opeig of the Waterloo Corer Iterchage overpass will provide safe access via the sigalised itersectio for all traffic movemets i ad out of the St Kilda area. Premier of South Australia Steve Marshall said South Australia jobs were the State Govermet s priority, with at least 480 jobs beig supported over the life of the project. The choice to use cocrete will create a extra 40 jobs, icludig batch plat workers, truck drivers ad pavig plat operators cotributig a estimated additioal $11 millio to local idustry, Mr Marshall said. South Australia Miister for Trasport, Ifrastructure ad Local Govermet Stepha Koll said approximately 13 kilometres of the 15.5-kilometre Norther Coector aligmet would be paved usig cocrete, excludig the four iterchages, which will be asphalt. This will be South Australia s first major cocrete road, offerig icreased durability ad the best value for moey whe it comes to maiteace with a savig of approximately 42 per cet i compariso to asphalt, Mr Koll said. Seator for South Australia David Fawcett said the jobs would remai local. Norther Coector RI Idustries i Adelaide cast all the 2163 cocrete paels supplied for the project. RECO desiged each pael to meet a ambitious urba desig. The requiremets cosisted of icorporatig a salt crystal relief patter placed withi a hexagoal shaped pael. The hexago shape was a adjustmet of the stadard RECO TerraPlus rectagular facig system. There are two differet relief desigs o the paels. Oe is shaped like a crystal ad the other a cube. The Norther Coector Project i South Australia will provide a itegrated road ad rail trasport corridor that will lik the Norther Expressway, South Road Superway ad Port River Expressway. The Reiforced Earth Compay (RECO) has bee cotracted by Led Lease Egieerig Pty Ltd to desig ad supply Reiforced Earth walls & abutmets for four bridges o this project. The project has bee built i a very busy ad costraied eviromet due to live traffic. Reiforced Earth structures were a ideal choice as the costructio area is very miimal. They are built from withi ad the precast elemets are maufactured off-site. A limited costructio area also assists with the maagemet ad mitigatio of acid sulphate soils ad erosio durig earthworks. The crystal relief is rotated 180 for every secod pael ad the cube paels fill i sectios to make up the edges of the walls. O the crystal paels differet triagular sectios of the relief are textured i four sequeces. As the crystal is rotated 8 differet moulds were utilized to complete this patter ad oe additioal mould for the cube patter. The textures give a illusio of perspective ad by addig shadig to the relief lies it looks like a zig-zag shadow that gives movemet as it works its way across the wall ad aroud corers. These shadows are created by the texture i the plai cocrete ot by ay coloured pigmet added ito the cocrete durig castig.
