Judging Starts 7.45 March Meeting Information No Guest Speaker this Month This is the Annual General Meeting Visiting Society in March No Guest Society This Month The Queensland Orchid Society Inc. founded on Wednesday, 24 th January 1934 Members who contribute to this Bulletin endeavor to assure the reliability of its contents. Any cultural advice provided is a guide only and may not suit individual growers. It is the responsibility of the individual to validate such advice before applying suggested methods. The Society welcomes potential members to come to the general meetings as our guests, and advises those wishing to join us, that subscription fees (in Australian Dollars) are $20 for a single, $25 for a family from 1st January $10 for a single, $12.50 for a family from 1st July Other Orchid Societies interested in affiliating with us are advised that Society Affiliation is $30 Payable on the 1st January each year.

GENERAL MEETING MINUTES Red Hill Community Sports Centre, 22 Fulcher Road, Red Hill Monday, 7 th FEBRUARY, 2016 The President, Albert Gibbard declared the General Meeting opened and welcomed the Members, Visitors and the Judges. Judges for this evening are -.Gary Yong Gee, Reg Illingworth Judging commences at 7.45pm. No Guest Societies for February. NEW MEMBERS: Jan Teufel, Allan & Patricia Cox, Ellen Staysich and Jan McKenzie All are now Associate Judges. Jan is also the Secretary of the Logan & District Society. Forms to be presented to the Committee for ratification. Albert reminded the members to get their Raffle tickets. Raffle sellers were Alf Filia & Greg Malloy The Prizes are from a variety of well grown Orchid Plants, also sundry items which are on the table. Financial Report -Nick Woolley our Treasurer presented the Financial Report for the months of Nov/Dec. Moved by Nick Woolley and seconded by Margaret Horsey. A copy of the Financial Report was on the notice table Show Schedules, Newsletters and other sundry notices also on the notice table. Correspondence: Your Committee has attended to the routine Correspondence. Aspley Orchid Society is the first show for this year. At Mt. Coot-tha Auditorium 13 & 14 th February, And Set Up & Judging on Friday 12 February. SUPPER BREAK After Supper, Albert thanked whoever worked in the kitchen, Margaret Horsey, and her helpers. GUEST SPEAKER for this evening was Maurie Page. His subject was an interesting programme on orchid history and the pollination of orchids. REMINDER Plant sales commission now charged at 15% of the price. Visit the Trade Fair at Beenleigh. Gordon Grant was presented with a QOS Award by Ken Webster. Congratulations Gordon. : McKenzie, Jan is an Associate Judge & a member of the Logan Society. : Mrs Jan Various learner Judges commented on the tabled plants. Prizes, plant or a QOS glass were given to 1st in Judges Choice Hybrid Orchid and also 1st in Judges Choice Species Orchid Any General Business- We would appreciate it, if any Member has items of interest which can be added to the Bulletin or any suggestions on what they would like to see, please let the Editor, Kevin Horsey know. Will be held at the: Red Hill Community Sports Centre 22 Fulcher Road Red Hill Qld 4059 On Monday 14th March 2016 at 8pm All Positions will become vacant. Nominations will be accepted by the Secretary at the February Committee & General Meetings and will be accepted at any time prior to the March AGM. Sogo Grape X Ching Ann Diamond OWNER S NAME: M Tierney JUDGE S COMMENT: A Very Attractive plant and very well Grown OWNERS COMMENTS Housing : Grown in a house that is heated in the winter. It is of couse a peloric clone & flowers as a peloric each year. Watering : 2 or 3 times a week in the hotter Months, once per week in the cooler Months. Feeding Program : I use HS Duet in the main with added Potash - Calcium - Seaweed & Hysan at different times Potting Medium : Growing in Peat - Perlite - Vermiculite & Coir. The Plants are repotted every 2 years. Other Cultural Comments : Spraying with Insecticide & Fungicide every 2 weeks. FLORAL ART Members can you please help. We desperately need orchid flowers and foliage for the floral art stall especially for Easter Friday and Saturday and Sunday Show Days Presidents Report No Presidents report this month. The President will give his report at the annual general meeting EASTER SHOW Members can you please bring some cake & or slices for the Judges supper On setup day of the Easter show It would be very much Appreciated Plant Sales It would be appreciated if members selling plants could give a little of there time to help out at the show over the weekend. 7 GENERAL CONDITIONS 1. Entries are free and open to all members of Orchid Societies 2. Entries will be accepted from 2pm and shall be benched by 7pm and available for judging by 7.30 pm on Thursday, 21st April All persons not involved with the judging must leave the hall by 7.30 pm. 4. The Queensland Orchid Society Inc. or its agents will accept no responsibility for theft, loss, destruction of plants or damage of any kind occasioned to plants, either during transport to and from the show venue or while at the show venue. This includes all plants submitted for sale. 5. All exhibits and exhibitors shall conform to the Rules and By-laws of the Society. 6.The Show Marshal in conjunction with the Chief Steward shall have the right to refuse the exhibition of any plant, which in their opinion, appears diseased. 7. All plants entered shall be the property of the exhibitor. The plants must have been in the exhibitor's possession for the preceding six months. 8. Individual plants may be entered in only one class. All entries of plants shall be in show condition. 9. Exhibitors are responsible to see that all plants are correctly labelled with cards provided by the Society. 10. Although it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to enter the plant in the correct class and place it in a suitable position on the competitive bench, the Chief Steward has the right to determine the class in which any plant may be exhibited; to reject, remove or re-arrange any entry; to combine (less than three plants) and/or establish extra classes if needed. 11. A Novice shall mean any exhibitor who has not been classified other than a Novice by any Orchid Society. A QOS member may remain a Novice for up to two years from the date of joining regardless of whether or not they have won a Novice section at a previous QOS Show. A Novice plant is eligible to be Judged for any Champion Section 12. Plants to be judged in accordance with AOC standards, however, QOS staking and tying rules apply as follows. - Staking and tying to support the inflorescence will be permitted. On all inflorescences, no staking or ties are allowed on or above the pedicle or ovary of the flower. On multi-flowered unbranched inflorescences, staking and ties are allowed up to but not above half way along that portion of the inflorescences carrying flowers and buds. On branched inflorescences, the main branch may be staked or tied up to but not above the uppermost branch. Parafilm or florist tape is not allowed as ties. 13. No third prize shall be awarded if there are less than five entries and no second prize if there are less than three entries, unless in the opinion of the judges and after consultation with the Show Marshal and Chief Steward that the entries are of such quality as to especially warrant the award of a prize. 14. The judges shall select the winners of the Champion Awards from benched plants, OR by prior arrangement with the Show Marshal, nominated plants in displays. 15. The Grand Champion Orchid of the show shall be selected from the winners of the Class Champions. 16. The Reserve Champion Orchid of the show shall be selected from the remaining winners of the Class Champions plus the second best orchid chosen from the class from which the Grand Champion Orchid was chosen. 17. The Judges Decision Shall Be Final 18. No bloom may be removed from a plant, even though spent, or plants or blooms interfered with, without the permission of the Chief Steward or other Official appointed by him. 29. No plant shall be removed from the show until the termination of the show. Any plant removed shall cause the owner to forfeit any rights to the prize in that class. Withdrawal of a plant without permission may lead to the exhibitor's disqualification at any future show. 20. Stealing of blooms or pollen may lead to the initiation of legal action. 21. Photographs may be taken at any time, but not at the inconvenience of the show patrons. 22. Only QOS Members and Sponsors are entitled to sell plants, with QOS Members benching a minimum of 2 plants. A maximum of 40 non-flowering plants, unlimited flowering plants and 10 Foliage plants may be offered for sale. 23. Fire Ant Regulations must be adhered to. 24. Acceptance of any Entry shall be Conditional on the Exhibitor Agreeing to be Bound by the Conditions set out Above. 25.
