The meeting commences at 1.30 pm at The Bribie Island Bowls Club. This meeting is restricted to Committee members only. Cultural Meeting Held on the fourth Tuesday of the month, at The Orchid House, 156A First Avenue, Bribie Island. Meeting time is 1.30pm. Plants to be benched by 1.15pm please. New Growers Meeting Normally held on the second Saturday of the month. The first meeting for 2013 will be on February 9th. These meetings are also held at The Orchid House commencing at 1.30pm.

2 Christmas Party This year we gathered at a new venue at Blueys Woorim Hotel. Apart from the rather cramped conditions general opinion seemed to be that the buffet arrangement and food quality was better than previous years but a larger area will be needed if we are to accommodate the same number of people next Christmas. As in previous years the function provided an opportunity for our members to relax and enjoy each other s company in a social atmosphere and most managed to secure some small gift from the rolling raffle to take home. Thanks are due to Di for organising this event. Judges Choice

3 New Growers We had 35 in attendance for our Christmas Meeting. Merv gave us the benefit of his experience growing cattleyas. The rolling raffle was well supplied with goodies and the meeting concluded with a nice afternoon tea. 4 News Member News Rumour has it that one of our stalwarts has returned to the fold after a rehab stint out west. Welcome back Keith. Your Committee is also keenly aware of several other members who are not in good health and would like all those in this situation to know that you are all firmly in our thoughts. New Members A big welcome to our new members: Sandra Kerr from Wamuran HJ & A Trott from Sandstone Lakes Long may you derive pleasure from your orchid growing. New Orchid Photo Database. We have been advised of a new database of orchid photos at ( They have 6000 photos so far. Probably worth a visit for anyone with internet access. One of our lovely lady members asked the Editor to insert the following notice, so how could he refuse! After all he doesn t get many contributions to help fill these pages. Make of it what you will. Could anyone please tell me what benefit my windows get from Flourish, Seaweed, Silica, HSO12, Powerfeed. Epsom Salts, Confidor, Calccium, Combisolution etc? I am still waiting to find out. All responses to the Editor will be forwarded to the lady in question. Bark A reminder to all our members, and particularly our new members, that the society does obtain bulk supplies of bark in three different grades which are sold to members at cost (ie with bulk discount). Full bags can be broken down into smaller quantities if required. Bags are stored at Mel Wheeler s place but he can bring to the Orchid House on request. Remaining garden books from Gwendella Cooper s estate will be offered for sale by our Librarian, Jeanette Saviane, at our future meetings. All proceeds will be used to acquire an item for the kitchen to remember Gwendella so please dig deep. I am a part-time orchid hobbyist with a small cattleya collection. Over the past 30 years of growing orchids, I have lost a number of nice flowering plants and would like to replace them. I would therefore appreciate it if you would give out the following list of orchids, perhaps at your next meeting, or by forwarding this to your society members who may have these plants and who may have some for sale.
