Represented to date are Gardengate/Open Door Group, Boys and Girls Club of Kamloops and A way Home (youth homelessness). SESSION 3 Growing our Future Urban Agriculture and Community Gardens Laura Kalina, Registered Dietitian, Founder Kamloops Food Policy Council, Shelaigh Garson, Urban Agriculture (Public Produce) & Community Gardens Coordinator, Interior Community Services & Carmin Mazzotta, Social and Community Development Supervisor, City of Kamloops. Panel Discussion with Jim Baird, National Judge for CiB, former City Planner for Saint John, New Brunswick and Evelyn Alemanni, National Judge for CiB, National Judge and Board Member, America in Bloom. This presentation will benefit communities presently involved in the CiB program and those that are thinking about getting involved. Jim will give proven tips on how to prepare the Judges visit. Evelyn will give tips on how to develop an effective Community Profile Book. SESSION 6 The importance of Urban Forest planning Michael Rosen, R.P.F. - President of Tree Canada and Bill Hardy, Canadian Nursery Landscape Association Represenatative The urban forest is where we live, work, and play. It s in our back yard, our front yard, and our parks. It s by the river, by the office building, and on the street corner. This property is being reborn as a leading edge urban farm inside of a sustainable Master Planned Community. Join us for a tour of this amazing site! Tour will also include a stop at Macdonald Park Scotts Community Garden. This garden is a community gathering place in a popular neighbourhood park, it features public produce, community plots and is utilized for youth educational workshops. We will Explore the cultural district of downtown Kamloops and Experience strolling the Alley Art Gallery while hearing some Kamloops stories. Enjoy our neighborhoods eclectic collection of public art and character buildings including the Old Courthouse Cultural Centre a grand brick and stone three-storey building built in 1909 and St. Andrew s Church the oldest public building remaining in Kamloops. This unique experience showcases the history and legends of the Secwepemc people. Cultural displays extend into a 5-hectare Heritage Park located on the banks of the South Thompson River and include unique Ethnobotanical Gardens. The tour continues with a visit to the 2014 National CiB award winning Master Planned Community highlighting the partnership between the TteS and Sun Rivers Development; Canada s first geothermal community. Proceeds will go to the Communities in Bloom Foundation and British Columbia Communities in Bloom. Come out and play at the beautiful Sun Rivers Golf Course, win prizes and support two great benefactors. Sun Rivers Golf Course There will be golf as well as FootGolf being offered. FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf and played with a soccer ball rather than clubs. Our course features 18 holes of FootGolf on 9 golf holes offering the same spectacular views that our regular golfers receive. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf using pars as a guide to get your ball into a 21 inch diameter cup. If you can kick, you can play! CiB delegates will be bussed from their hotels to Sun Rivers and returned when finished playing golf. 6:00 7:30 pm Mayor s Welcome Reception and Flag Exchange Ceremony, Thompson Rivers University, Mountain Room, hosted by the City of Kamloops Thompson Rivers University The Welcome Reception officially opens the Symposium and Awards activities with greetings, local entertainment and a cocktail. The Flag Exchange Ceremony is a tradition, established in 2004, consisting of the International Communities exchanging flags with the Host City. Afterwards, the delegates dine out on their own. 8:00 11:00 pm Micro Brewery Tour, Downtown kamloops Come and try the beer at The Red Collar Brewing Company and then walk over to The Noble Pig Brewhouse which is 3 blocks away to try their beer as well. This will be a fun evening at the Columbo Lodge Italian Cultural Centre. Authentic Italian cuisine mixed with an evening celebrating sport. Show your colours by bringing your favourite team s jersey. Saturday, October 3 9:00 11:00 am Complimentary Event Open to all delegates & the public Town Hall Meeting moderated by Mark Cullen and presented by Home Hardware. The Town Hall Meeting is an opportunity for all delegates, along with general public of Kamloops to exchange ideas, best practices and help out with each other s challenges. Brief presentations will be made by British Columbia Provincial participants, National Finalists along with International Communities.
