Within the I and there are numerous sub-components which are included in this cost element. ther critical components included in cost element 3.4 include uidance ircuit ard ssemblies (), uidance ccelerometer ensors (I), Interferometric iber ptic yros (I), etector ackage ssemblies () and k6 lectronic art ets. he 5 program funding in 2014 supports the redesign of the guidance system and missile electronics, which must be replaced to support the extended service life. unding was added in 14 through the outyears for the 5 rogram restrucure. In 2009, the 5 program experienced a cost and schedule overrun in the redesign of issile lectronics 's. issile Kit procurement was delayed until 2011 in order to conduct an additional design iteration which was required to achieve system ritical esign eview. he restructured program shifted I from 2013 to unding in 2014 also procures missile electronic and guidance kits as well as other critical components required to support the extended hull life for a 14 I II program. unding in cost elements 4.1 through 4.7 support the trategic rms eduction reaty (ew ) signed into law on 5 eburary ew is a nuclear arms reduction treaty between the nited tates and the ussian ederation which limits the number of deployed launchers. unding in 14 will procure additional support equipment required to support safe offload processing of missiles and warheads in support of the ew requirements. upport equipment procurement will consist of are issile ridges and 1st and 2nd tage otor hocks. ew funding will also be used in support of transportation and storage equipment. ince 13, has worked with our industry partners to reduce overhead costs and minimize cost increases to the department. s reflected in the 40, currently estimates the unit cost of a olid ocket otor () to be lower then previously anticipated. espite efforts to reduce overhead costs, the industrial base remains volatile. otential future unit cost increases due to further decline in the industrial base could impact the 5 rogram.
