Director s Chat By David Wiist, Director Welcome to March! May you and yours enjoy an early spring (we hope) with sprinkles of green (St. Patrick s Day), a sporting March madness, and the beginning (yawn) of Daylight Savings Time. Hopefully, the winter ice has finally melted away and you can at least get the garage door open wide enough to drag out the bike. I know we had a few days in February to ride (emphasis on few), but at least you got to ride. With daylight savings time approaching, maybe the evening hours will allow for some cool & clear spring riding. If you haven t been by Bryan Harley-Davidson yet, your Rewards Card is still waiting for you. All you need to do is show up and collect it. Longhorn Trails By Jeff Scroggins Activities Officer OK, I admit it. I m spoiled. I wanted weather in January and February like we ve had the past couple of years. This time last month I was thinking, goodbye January, Activities welcome Officer February. I WRONG! I m glad to have February in the rear view and hope that looking into March brings miles. This year s Cabin Fever Poker Run really will have some meaning this year! And speaking of Cabin Fever, April 15 is fast approaching and will be right on top of us before we know it. Volunteers are still needed for almost all stops. If you haven t signed up on the volunteer sheet please contact me and I ll get you signed up. This event helps qualify you for the new Volunteer of the Year Award. We also need door prizes. Please, don t be bashful. Ask for donations from the businesses you frequent. They are usually Just by being a Chapter Member, you have already received 50 points. And by investing in the VIP program, you can earn another 100 points. The card is FREE, so get by Bryan s and pick up your card. The more you spend, the more you can start earning today! The 14 th Annual Cabin Fever Run Return to Red Rock Canyon is in full swing. I know that Jeff, your Activities Officer, is hard at it--going through all the motions of planning and staging this annual fund-raising event. The ride is scheduled for April 15, 2007, starting a Bryan H-D and ending at Red Rock Canyon in Hinton, OK. The overall ride is about 140+ miles through southern & western Oklahoma. Informational flyers and registration forms are available at Bryan s and in this newsletter. You can also pick up information and forms at the Chapter meeting and on the Chapter website ( Want to help out? Then contact Jeff and let him know you are willing Continued on page 4 happy to contribute something as cheap advertising. Most importantly, however, is that you participate in the poker run itself. This is our major fund raiser for the year. A weak turnout forces us to cut back on chapter paid events and can hog tie us (no pun intended) come time for our annual Christmas party bash. Your participation in Cabin Fever XIV is sincerely needed. So be sure and reserve April 15 on your calendar. We have a great route of 147 miles heading south, west and then north to end up at Red Rock Canyon State Park. Adding to the return of tradition, Junebug is going to do another chapter group photo with us in front of the wall. You won t want to miss out on being in this shot. Registration forms are available everywhere and the first 250 to pre-register will get a Cabin Fever XIV (Continued on page 3) Page 1

2 ATTACH YOUR PATCH This service brought to you by CENTRAL OKLAHOMA #1 H.O.G CHAPTER Ladies of Harley We will sew your patch on denim or leather vests, chaps, and lightweight jackets. Patches up to 6 wide $5 3 on the same garment $10 6 inches plus $7 (very difficult patches may be more) We are unable to sew on your heavyweight coats, and we do not do repairs or alterations. LOH Noise by Cindy Barghols-Copeland Ladies of Harley Coordinator The ground hog said spring is coming. So, WHEN, I ask...when? I know we are all getting antsy for the real riding season to begin. I hope one of the first things you put on your calendar is the Chapter overnighter to Tahlequah, OK on May 19 & 20th. We will ride Rt 66 to Bristow for lunch and then on to Tahlequah. We have a great dinner planned for us that evening with Casinos and a night ride. Sunday morning we can all sleep in a little and meet for a scrumptious brunch before heading back to OKC through Gore and Checotah. This is a relaxing, easy ride we can do to get ourselves back in the biker groove for a great summer of riding. Pay in advance with cash or check made out to Central OK #1 H.O.G. Please write L.O.H. on the memo line. Phone number will be taken and we will contact you for delivery/pick up. All proceeds to benefit our H.O.G. chapter Ride to Support Area Children We have been invited to ride to Lawton on Saturday, March 31, to show support for Area II Adoption Unit, which includes Cleveland County. They are having an adoption party for teens, who are part of the 2500 children in OKDHS custody currently awaiting adoptive homes. We will meet at Oklahoma City Community College on South May at 9:00, arriving in Lawton around 11. The party, which is themed 'An Island of Possibilities', will be held at the Dr. J.L. Davenport Family Life Center in Lawton from 10am until 2pm. The carnival-type atmosphere will allow families interested in adoption to meet teens who are waiting to be adopted. They can play games and eat lunch together. Anyone who is interested, please come along and join us for this ride. Contact person is Jud and Linda Webster s daughter, Robin Gibson, Adoption Specialist, Cleveland & Garvin Counties, Get ready for the Cabin Fever Poker run on Apr. 15. LOH will be having a bake sale at the store during registration and again at the final stop. Please get out your cookbooks, find your favorite goodies and plan to share them with the riders. We ask the entire chapter to help us out by providing a wonderful assortment of bake sale items. Please bring your donations to the store before registration begins and have them individually wrapped and priced to sell. We would hate for anyone to start their ride on an empty stomach! We are collecting member info for our next chapter directory which will be distributed in April. Remember this very important fact...if you wish to receive this informative item, you must include yourself in the directory. HOG does not allow distribution of chapter member info unless you are willing to share yours. The final deadline for info to be submitted is at the chapter meeting on March 14. None will be accepted after that date. See you there. Patches Quilt raffle tickets are on sale now. These throws will be given as a set to one winner at the Spring Fling on May 5, The next Ladies Night will be on Tuesday, Mar. 27. We will meet at Bodensee Frozen Custard Shoppe at 6:30 p.m. We are looking for a few good biker chics to join us. We have a lot to do this year. We need your help. Page 2

3 The Gator s Den By Frank Gator Smith Safety Officer Hi Guys and Gals, hope everyone is staying warm this winter. It won t be long until we enter our springtime riding season. So, it s about time we start getting our scooters in tip-top condition for the year ahead. Also, now would be a great time to consider working on your personal riding skills. If you have not attended an Approved Motorcycle Training Course or it has been a while since you last attended training, why not take the opportunity to refresh your skills. Upon successful completion of training you will be eligible for a $50.00 coupon which may be applied towards national H.O.G. renewal, H.O.G. or H-D Merchandise, or Fly & Ride motorcycle rentals. Limited to reimbursement for one course annually. Most insurance companies will provide a discount for completion of an approved course. We need plenty of volunteers for a successful event. In addition, you will get to meet some great folks with the same interests as you. Speaking of volunteers, your Chapter officers want to try a little something different this year. We know what it is like to continually volunteer and give of your time & talents to make things work out successfully. We, your Chapter officers, would like to give a little something back. This year all volunteers participating in Chapter & Dealership events will be considered for Volunteer of the Year recognition. The qualifications are simple, just be willing to give of your time & talents to help make the Chapter and Dealer events run smoothly. Your name, times and events will be recorded and voted on at the end of the year. Chapter Officers are not eligible for this award, so all Chapter members who love to hang out and participate in riding and having fun are called upon to step up. 5 Everyone who knows Dennis Junebug Carroll, are well aware of how he takes pride in being on top of the latest technology. We all benefit when he uses his tremendous talent on his high powered digital camera. Recently, there was an occasion when the best technology failed him. On February 3, our Activities Officer called for volunteers to help plan this year s Cabin Fever poker run. Several s went out announcing the time and place of this meeting, which was to be held at a restaurant in Moore, just off the I-35 service road. Even though this place was only a few blocks from his home, Dennis ended up on the other side of the city. It seems that when Dennis plugged the information into his GPS, it sent him to a restaurant of the same name, only in Yukon, instead of Moore. The said to go to the west side of I-35. Apparently Dennis followed those directions a little too vigorously, and went WAY west. Or maybe Dennis needs a lesson or two on his GPS. At any rate, wearing Grand Foo-Pah Award the newly re-designed, colorful Foo-Pah vest for a month just might serve as a reminder that technology can t always be trusted. And sometimes instead of a G-P-S, a person is better off relying on common sense and an old fashioned M-A-P. Welcome, New Members!
