2 Rick s Rumblings Hello Storm Riders! I hope you have been out riding in this beautiful weather! You can't beat days in the 70's and low 80's for riding. Remember we have election of officers in November. We have three excellent officers stepping down this year: Diana Hansmeyer - membership officer, Jud Webster- Head Road Captain, and Denise Jones - LOH Officer. They have all done excellent jobs in their positions and will be missed. So if you are interested in any of these positions or any other position, just send me an by the October chapter meeting so I can let everyone know, in case we need to have an election. Remember the State Rally is in October. I hope everyone got preregistered, signed up to be a volunteer, and has been practicing the dance for the chapter challenge. We have won the chapter challenge for the last 4 years and I would like for us to keep it up. November 2 we will have a Toy Run to benefit the Moore Fire Department s Santa Express. You will be seeing more details as the event gets closer. We need volunteers, and we ask that you encourage all your friends to mark this date on your calendar. The Christmas Party is going to be December 7th. We will be having the same menu as last year and the cost is the same, $30 per person and if you are a chapter member you will get that back when you show up at the party. You may bring a guest but you will not get that $30 back. I will have a sign-up sheet at the October and November meetings. If you plan on attending, please sign up and pay, so I can let them know how many to prepare for. That is all for now. I hope to see you on the road! 2013 Officers Director: Rick Marinelli rmarinelli62@gmail.com Assistant Director/Webmaster Monte Stutterheim powermanokc@gmail.com Secretary: Brenda Stutterheim soonerhd@gmail.com Treasurer/Road Captain: Colleen Smith pickles2832@yahoo.com Membership Officer: Diana Hansmeyer hdladyrider2@yahoo.com Activities Officer/ Photographer/RC Lynn Cavin okcpony@swbell.net Safety Officer/Road Captain Ray Kubiszewski rayzor57@att.net Ladies Of Harley Officer/RC Denise Jones djones1989@yahoo.com Editor/RC: Linda Webster linwebs@gmail.com Photographer: Ronnie Frame rinkyframe@cox.net Diane Loser dilos5408@cox.net Historian: Carmen Dethloff carmendethloff@ymail.com Head Road Captain: Jud Webster judwebshd07@gmail.com Road Captains: Mike Austin mgaokc@goevans.com Mike Bollinger harleymike1123@att.net Larry Burgess larryburgess@att.net Gary Cavin gdcavin@swbell.net Lynn Cavin okcpony@swbell.net Dwight Chapin Chapins3@yahoo.com William (Flood) Collins flood.collins@cox.net Barry Dethloff dandff07@gmail.com Gene Dutton duttonnv@cox.net Mike Gaston james.gaston@okc.gov Denise Jones djones1989@yahoo.com Moe Jones motorhaulinmoe@yahoo.com Ray Kubiszewski rayzor57@att.net Jonathan Leavey jonathanleavey@sbcglobal.net Scott Macke smacke@earthlink.com Brad Nelson kj0w@sbcglobal.net Rick Rasor 03fxstd@gmail.com Ray Sarchet rsarchet2@cox.net Mark Scoggin hdscogman@cox.net Colleen Smith pickles2832@yahoo.com Greg St. Cyr gstcyr@cox.net Linda Webster linwebs@gmail.com 2
3 Dinner Ride to Smokin Joe s Davis, August24 There were 13 bikes and 15 riders who rode to Smokin Joes. The temperature was pretty warm, but not too hot for us to enjoy the day and the ride. We took the route west of I35 jogging from one road to another going south to Hwy 7, then east to Davis, then south to 77 to Joe s place. Smokin Joe s has relocated to a larger space just down the road from where they were before. So when we arrived we all were able to find a place to sit and enjoy our meals. A few members met up with us down there and saved a few seats, so there was plenty of seating. Jo s food was as good as we remembered, and we cannot wait for a return trip. Thanks to all who came. by Larry Burgess Road Captain It was good food, good company, good ride, good day..goodbye for now. Larry Burgess, Road Captain Oklahoma State H.O.G. 4 Christina STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. October 2013 IT S FALL.GET OUT THERE AND RIDE ALREADY! That is all, thank you. Well, that being said, here s the scoop on all the events we have going on around here between now and the end of the year. The Oklahoma State HOG Rally is October at the Embassy Suites in Norman, with many events being held at Fort Thunder. Enjoy this opportunity to sleep in your own bed this year! Check the website at okstatehogrally.com for the schedule of events for each day. Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time to help make this rally a big success! There are spots open for registration, helping with parking lot security, helping with the bike games, and of course, cooking burgers at the Fort! You ll even get a free t-shirt Up with the Sun, Gone with the Wind by Lynn Cavin, Activities Officer for your time contact Rick Marinelli at rmarinelli62@gmail.com for more specific job details. Also, the Chapter Challenge this year is about 80 s trivia, and bonus points can be scored by chapter members doing their rendition of Michael Jackson s Thriller video. Here s a link to a short YouTube video of the dance steps. v=jslk9cwopo0&feature=youtu.be We ll have our third chapter Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 7pm to 10pm in the upstairs conference room at Fort Thunder. Bring a snack to share with everyone, your own drinks (responsibly, of course) We ve had some really interesting and inventive costumes the past two parties, and I know this year s event will show us even more creativity from our members. Hey, if wearing a costume just isn t your thing, no problem! Come on out and enjoy hanging out with your fellow chapter members for a Saturday evening. Saturday, November 2 nd, marks the date of our toy run to benefit the Moore Fire Department and their Santa Express program for needy children in our Moore area. WE NEED YOU! We need you to help with staffing in areas to make the event run smoothly, and we need you to actually participate in the event by bringing a new, unwrapped, $10. minimum toy to be donated. Let s make this event a rousing success for the Moore FD, the kids who ll receive the donated toys, and even for us, as we have a real opportunity here to make a difference to a family who needs our help at this time of the year. Lastly, be sure and mark your calendars for our Christmas party, which is Saturday, December 7 th, at the Willow Creek Country Club Tennis Center. This is always a wonderful evening of food and fellowship, so I hope that we ll have a great turnout for this event! It seems that the older I get, the faster these years go by! Be safe out there, and see you at a chapter event soon! Chapter Meeting September
5 Dinner Ride to Sam & Ella s Chicken Palace, Tahlequah, September 14 The dinner ride to Sam & Ella's was a ride for people who wanted to get out of town for the day. They are located 185 miles to the east in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. 21 Storm Riders showed up on 16 bikes, a nice number for such a long ride. Road captains for this ride were Mike Austin - lead, Gene Dutton mid and Mike Gaston sweep. We headed out at 9:00 am Saturday the 14th from Fort Thunder and ended up at the restaurant around 1:15 pm. We took I-35 north up to old Route 66, went east to 16 east, then jumped on to 69 north for a mile and then took 62 east into Tahlequah. It was a great day to ride. The weather was tem- Mike Austin Road Captain perfect. The perature was just right, 70 degrees, when we started out. Sights saw along the way were the round barn, Rock Cafe, Arkansas River and beautiful eastern Oklahoma. Their name is Sam & Ella's Chicken Palace but the main dish for every one was pizza, they had any flavor you wanted and then some. To sum it up, it was a great day to escape. STORM RIDERS TOY RUN Saturday, November 2 nd, our chapter will have a toy run to benefit the Moore Fire Department and their Santa Express program for needy children in our Moore area. WE NEED YOU! Please help with staffing in areas to make this event run smoothly, and please help by bringing a new, unwrapped, toy worth $10 or more. Let s make this event a rousing success for the Moore FD, the kids who ll receive the donated toys, and even for us, as we have a real opportunity to make a difference to a family who needs our help. 5
6 Leather and Lace by Denise Jones, LOH Officer It s hard to believe that we are into the fall months already! It seems like only a few weeks ago we were at the beginning of the year. We have been fortunate for many days of great riding this year! The Ladies of Harley met on Saturday, September 21 st at Fort Thunder. We had eight ladies in attendance. This included new members; Jina Myers and Kerrie Spritzer. Thank you all for coming! It s official! The LOH ride at the OK State HOG Rally will be going to the new Artisian Hotel in Sulphur and to the Bedre Chocolate Factory in Davis. I know that it was on again and off again a few times, but now it s definitely ON! The ride will be on Friday and will meet at 9:15am and leave at 9:30 from the hotel parking lot. Thank you to Colleen Smith for putting together our route that will take us on some great back roads of the Oklahoma countryside. I hope YOU make plans to ride with us. AND it s not just for ladies everyone is welcome! We are still waiting on making the final decision for the Christmas table decorations. I have placed the order for the jars we need but now they are on back order. So we will wait to our October meeting and see where we are at that time. Boxes boxes! We are collecting boxes to help with our Christmas wrapping project at Fort Thunder. If you have been saving them, please turn them in to me at any chapter meeting. At the November chapter meeting we will start the sign-up for the gift wrapping. If you have a couple of hours to volunteer to help with the gift wrapping at Fort Thunder, it will be greatly appreciated. Also if you have been saving toiletry items from your travels, please turn those in to me by the November chapter meeting. We will be sorting and distributing them in December. On another note, after much thought I have decided to step down from the Ladies of Harley officer position. It has been a great two years as the LOH officer and I have made many new friends. If you are interested in this position, please send your letter of intent to Rick Marinelli as soon as possible. The next LOH meeting will be Tuesday, October 29th at 6 pm at Fort Thunder in the upstairs conference room. That s all for now ride safe and have fun!
