STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. September 2013 September 2013 What a great photo taken by David Wallis at our August chapter meeting at Willow Creek Country Club, 6501 S. Country Club Drive. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. 1

Rick s Rumblings By Rick Marinelli, Director Hello Storm Riders! I hope everyone enjoyed the cool weather we had in August and put some miles on their bikes. Look for a sign-up sheet at the September meeting to let us know if you have volunteered for the chapter or Fort Thunder. If you have, then you will be invited to our volunteer dinner. Please let us know so that we can honor and reward you for your work during this year. If you are interested in becoming a chapter officer for next year, we need you! Please send me a letter of intent, just telling us which officer position you are interested in. Remember you can run for any position, even mine. The 2014 bikes are out. They have made a lot of cool changes on the touring bikes. If you haven't seen them yet, you need to go to the Fort and look at them. Our toy run will be on Saturday, November 2 nd. We will need people to help. The toys will be taken to the Moore Fire Department, so they can hand them out at Christmas. They do a great job of screening the candidates, working with the Moore schools to make sure they give to people who need it. There will be a meeting on the toy run soon, and all chapter members our invited. We always need new ideas and ways to make it fun, so come out and join us. Until next time, Ride and have fun! 2013 Officers Director: Rick Marinelli rmarinelli62@gmail.com Assistant Director/Webmaster Monte Stutterheim powermanokc@gmail.com Secretary: Brenda Stutterheim soonerhd@gmail.com Treasurer/Road Captain: Colleen Smith pickles2832@yahoo.com Membership Officer: Diana Hansmeyer hdladyrider2@yahoo.com Activities Officer/ Photographer/RC Lynn Cavin okcpony@swbell.net Safety Officer/Road Captain Ray Kubiszewski rayzor57@att.net Ladies Of Harley Officer/RC Denise Jones djones1989@yahoo.com Editor/RC: Linda Webster linwebs@gmail.com Photographer: Ronnie Frame rinkyframe@cox.net Diane Loser dilos5408@cox.net Historian: Carmen Dethloff carmendethloff@ymail.com Head Road Captain: Jud Webster judwebshd07@gmail.com Road Captains: Mike Austin mgaokc@goevans.com Mike Bollinger harleymike1123@att.net Larry Burgess larryburgess@att.net Gary Cavin gdcavin@swbell.net Lynn Cavin okcpony@swbell.net Dwight Chapin Chapins3@yahoo.com William (Flood) Collins flood.collins@cox.net Barry Dethloff dandff07@gmail.com Gene Dutton duttonnv@cox.net Mike Gaston james.gaston@okc.gov Denise Jones djones1989@yahoo.com Moe Jones motorhaulinmoe@yahoo.com Ray Kubiszewski rayzor57@att.net Jonathan Leavey jonathanleavey@sbcglobal.net Scott Macke smacke@earthlink.com Brad Nelson kj0w@sbcglobal.net Rick Rasor 03fxstd@gmail.com Ray Sarchet rsarchet2@cox.net Mark Scoggin hdscogman@cox.net Colleen Smith pickles2832@yahoo.com Greg St. Cyr gstcyr@cox.net Linda Webster linwebs@gmail.com 2

STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. September 2013 Dinner Ride to Brandin Iron, Coalgate, July 27 It was one sweet ride, on a really nice day in late July! by Moe Jones Road Captain We had 23 bikes, one pickup, and close to 30 people ready to ride to southeastern Oklahoma on a Saturday morning. The weather was wonderful. So was the food and the scenery. The roads were curvy, hilly and scenic. We took a midway stop in Asher, Oklahoma, then proceeded on to Coalgate. Colleen Smith was sweep and Denise Jones was mid, and I was lead on this journey. We will have to go back at some point. Thanks to all who rode on this fine trip. ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE Thursday night - Evolution Underground will play at the Early Bird Party at Fort Thunder from 6-10 pm. This Rock Band plays a variety of Rock & Roll from 1960 to Saturday noon 3 pm. Rooftop Dogs will be playing at Fort Thunder. They play a mixture of Rock, Country and the Blues. Saturday Night - Déjà Vu will complete our line up for entertainment. They have become well known in the HOG world playing several rallies and scheduled to Friday night - That 80s Band will help appear at the 110th Celebration. They you have the ultimate 80s experience. We always get the dance floor filled playing a expect to see some big hair, leg warmers variety of music that will please everyone. and all those fashions we wore back then. Friday noon 3 pm. Uncle Freddy will be playing Rock & Roll at Fort Thunder. 3

Christina Summer is drawing to a close, and many of us have taken a vacation (or two) and are now looking forward to some nice fall temperatures and perhaps some football! We re starting to get into a busier time of year, so be sure and watch our calendar because you ll want to make plans to attend as many of our events as possible. The annual float trip to the Illinois River in Tahlequah is Sept. 6-8 th. We have a few openings left, so contact me if you want to jump in at the last minute. Only $35.00 per person for two nights lodging in the bunkhouse, a six mile float trip, and your choice of kayak, canoe, or raft. With all the rain this year, I would imagine the river has much more water in it than the past two years we ve gone. Up with the Sun, Gone with the Wind by Lynn Cavin, Activities Officer September 28 th will be our chapter picnic at Red Rock Canyon near Hinton. There will be an organized ride that day; meet at 10:30am, leave at 11:00am from FTHD. I have a sign-up sheet, so please let me know if you ll be attending. Cost is $5.00 per person, but chapter members get that money back once they show up at the picnic. Non-members and no-shows will not be refunded their money. We ll have hamburgers, so plan to bring a side dish or dessert, and whatever you want to drink. For those not riding, we ll be there at noon to start cooking. October brings us the State Rally in Norman. There will be plenty of rides, and we ll need many volunteers to help with the various jobs of cooking, registration, bike games and such, so please help out wherever you can. If you can volunteer on Friday, that would be especially helpful since many of our members will be at work that day. Our Halloween Party will be on Saturday, Oct. 26 th, in the upstairs room at FTHD from 7p to 10pm. We always have some very imaginative costumes, but all are welcome even if you don t care to dress up! Get those thinking caps on and starting gathering ideas for your costume! We will be having our very first Toy Run on Saturday, November 2 nd. We have a planning meeting on Sept. 3 rd along with our officer s meeting, and we d love to have as many of you as possible to assist us in making this a big success for all involved! Lastly, our Christmas party will be Saturday, December 7 th, at the Willow Creek Tennis Center. I can t believe we re already talking about Christmas! LOH is getting geared up for our Christmas wrapping at the store, which has been a great way to raise money for the chapter. Merry Christmas! (Sorry, couldn t resist that!) Ride safe, all, and I ll see you at an event soon! Chapter Meeting August

Breakfast Ride to Lucille s, Mulhall, August 9 It was a beautiful unusually cool sunny morning when 34 Storm Riders met at Briscoe's Phillips 66 to take a ride on their 24 bikes to Mullhall for some breakfast. At the beginning of the ride the temperature was around 70 degrees, and had warmed up to a balmy 80 when we got back on our bikes for the ride back south...i call that perfect riding weather! We continued north onto Hwy 74, all the way to Crescent, where we took a right onto Hwy 74C. This highway meanders and zigzags through some isolated areas for 13 miles and then hooks up with Hwy 77 a few miles north of Guthrie. We got behind a slow tanker truck on 74c, and then passed some bicycles, which slowed us down, but soon the truck turned off and we were on our way, enjoying those 25 mph curves! Riding north on hwy 77, we enjoyed some scenic curves along the river, and finally landed in Mulhall at Lucille's, having ridden 65 miles. By Linda Webster Road Captain The breakfast buffet had been open for a couple hours when we arrived. The food was fresh and plentiful and the service was fast and friendly! If you want to learn some interesting Oklahoma history, you should google Lucille Mulhall, and learn about the fascinating woman who left her mark on this part of our state. We took I-35 north to I-40 then rode west to I-44 where we turned north, through the heart of Oklahoma City. We hardly recognized these interstates without all the normal OKC traffic! 5

Leather and Lace by Denise Jones, LOH Officer Can you believe this weather we have been having? It definitely has been some great riding weather for sure. I hope you have been able to enjoy it! I can t remember the last time everything outside was still green at the end of August!! The Ladies of Harley met on Saturday, August 17 th at Fort Thunder. We had nine ladies in attendance. Thank you all for coming! At our meeting we discussed the LOH ride for the Oklahoma State HOG Rally. With the time involved trying to do three stops on our ride, we decided we would adjust our leave time to 30 minutes earlier and not stop for lunch. However, we will go back to our original plan and visit the Original Fried Pie Shop in Davis and the Bedre Chocolate Factory. There are several other events taking place at the rally and we want everyone to enjoy as many as they can. If you didn t get registered by September 1 st, you will now have to register on-site. Be sure to check the website at for the most up-to-date information. I hope to see YOU there! Also at our meeting we looked over ideas for the Christmas party table decorations. We have decided on one idea, but are looking into the availability of supplies. The Christmas party is Saturday, December 7 th. Be sure you have it on your calendar to attend! After our meeting we had our Bling-It Up event. We all had a great time adding some sparkle to our vests, jeans, headbands and purses. Our plan was to do this event when the weather was less than desirable to be riding. Well it didn t quite work out that way as Saturday turned out to be a great day to be out on two wheels! I have spoken to Ashley in the Motor Clothes Department and she has the Christmas gift wrap paper ordered. The gift wrapping that we do during holidays is a great fundraiser for the chapter. Also don t forget about saving those boxes we can really use them! You may bring them to any chapter meeting. And don t forget we are collecting small toiletry items that hotels give you. They will be donated to a worthy group in December. I know many of you have been out and about this summer so I hope you remembered the LOH in your travels. Our next LOH meeting is Saturday, September 21st, at 10 a.m. at Fort Thunder. That s all for now ride safe and have fun! Denise Jones aka Sweet-n-Low Ladies of Harley Officer 6
