Box Milwaukee, WI October meeting Beulah Brinton Community Center 2555 S Bay St, Bay View Monday, October 16, 2017, 6:30 pm Speaker: No Speaker, End of Season Banquet The Prez Sez Well... that time of year has arrived, first the days started getting a little shorter, then the weather started getting a little cooler, and now the trees are beginning to show their fall colors. The 2017 BVBC ride season is slowly drawing to a close. Hopefully you have had as much fun riding this year as I have. Don t forget that even with the season coming to a close, there are still a few great rides left. If you feel like testing your legs, Holy Moly Hills is coming up... or maybe something a little easier, like Oak Leaf Trails North is more to your liking. Our new Mukwonago ride finds itself back on the schedule again before we wrap up the season with Deborah s world-famous Halloween ride at the end of the month. Don t forget, our October meeting is also our end of the year banquet. Come join us to socialize with friends, have some tasty food and look back at the cycling season, and perhaps offer some suggestions for next season. Hope to see you all there!! Hope to see you on a ride, Rich Oops, one more thing. If you ordered a club jersey, shorts or jacket from Hidden Bay Graphics, the order has arrived and I have them. me or give me a call (my number and are in the club directory) so I can make arrangements to get your order to you.
Upcoming Halloween Rides Jeff s Halloween Tuesday morning ride Oct. 24th Attention Tuesday morning riders. Our annual Halloween ride will be on October 24th, the fourth Tuesday of the month. If anyone has seen some decorated houses, let me know so I can work them into our ride. Please park at the end of the parking lot away from the front door at Beulah Brinton. They have a lunch on Tuesdays for the elderly. Jeff
Debra s annual Halloween ride Oct. 29th Have you got your costume ready for the Halloween Ride? Let s celebrate Halloween and the end of the biking season by having some scary fun. Halloween fun isn't just for children anymore. Join us on Sunday October 29, 2017 for a fun ride. We ll be riding the Ozaukee Interurban Trail. Come dressed in your favorite/scariest Halloween costume (suitable to bike in). Arrive early because there will be Halloween treats for everyone who shows up for the ride.
Past Events Fall Harvest Ride (AKA Tom s Picnic Ride) What a day for the Fall Harvest Ride! The temperature was in the 90 s and forced us to take numerous rest stops under trees along the road and at the marina in Lake Geneva. Once the ride was done, we relaxed in the shade at Tom s house, drank a lot of water, and had a picnic. When we recovered from the heat, we went out into Tom s orchard for apple picking. Tom explained the different types of apples that he grows, gave us samples, and then let us loose in his orchard. We each were able to pick a pumpkin from his pumpkin patch too! Thanks Tom for hosting this great yearly event! Slow Roll for Chris Kegel We had about 12 people from the club ride Chris Kegel s Slow Roll to raise awareness of bicycling. We rode from State Fair grounds to near the Harley Museum where we formed a human bicycle. We then proceeded to Kegel s Inn for beer, brats, and a great band.
We re on Our Way to the Banquet for Good Eats! It s hard to believe that our cycling season is coming to an end, especially with the weather being so nice. Our year end banquet will be held on Monday, October 16 starting at 6:30. Come and socialize, win a raffle prize, and see who has the most rider points! The board of directors is sponsoring this event for the club. Please RSVP by October 13 if you are planning on attending. If you end up not coming, don t worry about it (but we hope you do join us!). I just need an approximate head count for food. Please RSVP to my personal found in the club roster or to Social@BayViewBikeClub.org Scenic Riders Our Scenic Riders group invites everyone who rides approximately 12-14mph and rides the short/mid distances to join us. We ride the same routes as the rest of the club on the weekend, but now we have others to ride with! An is sent out every Thursday/Friday so that people can let others know if they will be riding. This way, when you arrive for a ride, you will know who will be riding at your pace. When the majority of riders leave for the ride, our group hangs back for a few minutes and then we take off together and stay together.
Sad News Joe Fischer recently lost his mother. Pray for comfort and peace for Joe and his family. Newsletter All club members are welcome to submit content to the Monthly Newsletter. If you come across something interesting to share, please feel free to send to MaryJo at The deadline for our newsletters is the 5 th of each month. September membership meeting minutes Sept 18th membership meeting held at Beulah Brinton. Tom's apple ride will be held on Sept 23rd. Jill talked about continuing the "Scenic Riders Group". She will make an effort to co-ordinate with riders that ride at a slower pace, stop more and socialize more during the ride. The goal is to make sure that no one feels left out. We hope to continue this next year--more to come. The annual October Banquet and awards meeting will be next month on Oct 16th. We ate ice cream.
Ride Coordinator Responsibilities Being a ride coordinator is lots of fun and earns additional rider points. It's easy to do. There are just a few things to remember: Arrive a little early so that all riders have time to sign the waiver sheet. Provide and distribute the ride route map and cue sheet to all riders. Before the ride, briefly address the riders, covering (as pertinent): o Confirm that all riders have signed the waiver sheet o Acknowledge new members / guests o Check number of riders doing each distance o Route information (if known): Temporary/permanent changes to the route Road construction / detours Rest stop opportunities o Have riders do a buddy check to ensure that everyone is prepared for a safe ride (i.e.: wearing helmets, packs zipped up, quick releases secure, etc.) o Remind riders that they are obligated to follow the rules of the road. In case of an accident involving more serious injury or property damage, fill out the enclosed incident report when time permits. This will allow a claim to be submitted to our insurer. Have fun! After the ride, return the waiver sheet (and ride package) to the Ride Chair so that everyone can qualify for rider points and to satisfy our insurance requirements. Include any items that were noted during the ride: Any needed additions, clarifications or corrections to the cue sheet and map. Concerns regarding the route. Any information which would improve the club experience the next time the route is ridden. Rider Points for October 1, 2016 September 30, 2017 You didn t really think we were going to give away the rider points before the banquet, did you?
